R.I.P Ford Focus. Mokka Shocker loaner

Well, at 0630 this morning we were merrily on our way to work on the A14 at Gt Barton when a lorry in the inside lane swerved to avoid a Thomas Ridley lorry coming up the slip road, I braked hard to avoid hitting said lorry, and was punted up the rear end whilst still moving by an elderly gent in a Kangoo van. It's pushed the rear in, the bootlid is bent and the bumper is badly split. Got whiplash to boot. Said giffer couldn't read or write, scary or what?

My insurers have already declared it a 'total loss', and have instructed Copart to collect it. Claim is not our fault, and we are pursuing a claim for loss of earnings, as both of us have lost a day's pay and our monthly bonus, plus we are now going to have to await settlement, and then source another car (comp cover plus full legal)

Work got narky, but it's not our fault. So fucking angry atm as cannot collect the courtesy car until Copart collect the Focus either

Bad day, hope your both feeling ok. Not been a good month for autoshite accidents.

It's all happening on here, isn't it?  Obviously there's nothing most of us can physically do to help you, beyond sending good wishes, just... rest up, look after those muscles and wait for the courtesy car.  We're all thinking of you.

In other news, my parcel arrived today, many thanks for that! :)

When you look from a distance the car doesn't look bad but on the nearside the bootlid is sticking up a good 5mm and the tail light panel gap between the boot has gone, and inside the tail lamp is cracked. Was one hell of a bang, the Skoda isn't up to the 70 mile per day commute, and I struggle to drive it with no PAS. From Saturday I have a courtesy Ford focus from Enterprise, and we have that until the claim is fully settled, plus 5 days grace. I like that Focus too, bloody shame as it was a tidy car that was really nice to drive

Wankhammers.

Glad you're ok(ish)...hope it all gets sorted swiftly.

FFS!  Time to strap mattresses/bouncy castles to the outside of our cars if we're joining A roads.

I'm glad you're OK. It really hasn't been a good month for Shiters has it?

So, was the Thomas Ridley lorry at fault (trying to join without waiting for a gap?) or was it the other lorry for moving over and not exercising his right of way?

(I know in real terms the Giffer is at fault for following too closely. Having been in his situation myself - it's how I killed my Focus - I can sympathise with him.)

As for work getting narky... go and get your doc to sign you off, both of you.  Sorted.  They can't argue with that.

I'd say it was said Ridley lorry that caused it all, but he fecked orf and probably didn't even see our accident!!! I was doing about 50 mph at the point of impact, so feck knows how fast giffer was going. All I heard was screeching tyres and a van rapidly approaching in the mirror, then BANG!!!!!!! Sadly cannot afford to go sick, bills need paying

I hope you can find another good Focus replacement. If you want another one, that's where autoshite could help?

Can you buy your Focus back? And would it be possible to resurrect it?

I've just had a nosey underneath, it's not pretty, bumper mounts and rear panel pushed in almost 2 inches, it's going to need jigging to straighten by the looks, a new bootlid, new bumper and umpteen other things under the skin, it's not worth it for a car that will carry at least a Cat D marker

That sucks! At least your ok though.

They say things come in three's, so who's next!? I'm keeping my old shite off the road for a while until this blows over!

That's exactly what happened when I had to stop quickly on the motorway, and the van behind didn't stop (he was too busy looking at the accident on the other side) - except I was shunted into the car in front setting off my airbags. I remember clearly looking in the rear view mirror seeing the van approaching, like we all do, expecting it to stop. Which it didn't. I reckon me looking in my rear view mirror made my whiplash worse, as my head went forwards at an angle. Left a bruise on my chest. Whiplash was an absolute bugger and still not right 4 odd years later.

Good luck on the recovery.

I'm still getting issues from a non fault accident 10 years ago, and this is going to set my recovery back a bit. Livid is an understatement of how me and domestic management feel at the moment

Yup, totally livid, but alive

Bad week for Fords. Glad to hear you aren't too badly hurt Felly, hopefully any after effects can get sorted properly.

Well luckily i'm due physio on the NHS shortly anyway for the old injury. It's shaken me up a fair bit, but had to drive home form BSE. Back in the saddle and all that. It's my long weekend this weekend, so will spend it trawling the net for how much the car will be to replace, and use it as ammo when it comes to payout time

Don't worry Dan, if you look in the news 24 thread my Discovery was written off on the first of the month so unfortunately Felly Magic was the third.

Still not been paid out and still got the courtessy car.

Spoke to the car rental place, and confirmed that will be the score for us, costs a nominal £1 to us. Being a rental I suspect it will be fuelled by satan

Arses! Must have missed your Disco getting trashed. I was starting to think there was some Ford killing curse going around (not good for me!) but obviously not.

It must have been something pretty big to kill your Disco? Aren't they built like tanks?

Still, hope you get the pay out soon anyway.

The Discovery was parked and a Rover 75 whacked the offside front corner at a fair old pace.Estimate cost of repair £1790.00 on a quarter of a million mile L.reg Disco = uneconomic to repair. The insurance company still haven't been to assess it, they've estimated off the photos and description I emailed them.

When my Saab was written off, no-one even bothered to come to look at it. They had a couple of photos from the scene of the accident from me and that was it. Stayed on my drive for a week as it was cheaper for them to do that than put it in (apparently) expensive storage. Co-parts then came to pick it up and that was that.

Admittedly the airbags went off, which for any thing under 5k, is pretty much guaranteed as a write-off.

I got pretty much full retail price for it (more than I paid my parents for it a year ago too...) - they did say because they were claiming off the other party, they pay the standard market rate according to their book. Basically the industry correct amount, as they don't want the hassle of me arguing over price when they can claim that figure easy enough from the other party anyway.

That's a real shitter Felly but I'm glad you are OK. The A14 is a bloody nightmare at the best of times and that Rougham junction is a real pain.

We got off lightly compared to you and Chompy. Will see what kind of payout we are offered, then the hunt for it's replacement will begin. Already had a quick nosey about, and there is sweet FA in the area for sale on the Trader that is suitable/within possible budget.
