Can we help Bub?

I am sure most, if not all, will have seen Bubs van looking worse for wear after a bmw picked a fight with it. Bub is not in the best of health and his £25 fiesta needs some work to be legal.

He may get a car off the bmw drivers insurance but if not I was wondering if we could help out. My idea was that someone on here must have a small engined car (for his insurance) with a decent length of ticket going cheapish. If a few of us promise a tenner each, or whatever folk can afford then if we get to the asking price we PayPal the dosh over to the owner who delivers the car to Bub.

Think of it as like a roffle, you never win anyway so it makes no difference!

What do people think? (I haven't asked Bub about this so I hope he is ok with the idea, if not give me a shout mate)

I think it's a cracking idea.  However:  is there one of us near enough to Bub to go and do what the Fiesta needs, run it down the MoT shop and generally have it ready for him?  It would appear there's what, a day's work for someone really handy?  It strikes me the Fund could be used to cover the day's work and MoT, then he's got his Fiesta running and doesn't have to worry about where to keep yet another car.

I'm up for working on the Fiesta if I can help. I'm in Tamworth, where is the Festa?

I am happy to chuck a donation in to a fund for what's best. We could even get enough to sort Bubs fiesta out and pay for chompys Picasso off bub, has a passenger chompy wont get a car and may be off work for a bit. That way he could use his money for any repairs on Picasso. Not that they usually need any *

Normally I would throw in for a bunch of flowers or some chocs but am happy to make a cash monies payment instead. Too far from Tamworth to help directly sadly

That's what you get on this forum.  I haven't forgotten how people rallied round when I was in dire straits in Cyprus and worrying that MrsR would only come out of intensive care horizontally.  Thankfully she made it and we are here to tell the tale.  It has since been my total pleasure to provide teas/bacon butties/ice creams to many of the Shiters who kicked in.

So now it looks like Bub needs something similar, and I'm in.  Come the time, I'll have a 99 with strawberry sauce on...

Sorting the fiesta is just as good an idea, either funds for a mobile mechanic or if there is a working party happy to do it then I am just as happy to donate towards parts/ bacon butties as required.

it's just North of Derby, so a bit under an hours run from Tamworth

(I am in Glascote by the way).

I have just PMed Bub and asked if he is happy with us doing this and what would be best for him, a cheap runaround or help with the fester.

Very willing to donate to any fighting fund.

Will definitely chuck a tenner in.

Who wants to organise the collection? Or do we have bubs PayPal details?

(I'm happy to organise if needed but miles away so won't me much good other than to collect and pay to one person)

I was thinking of this last night. I'd be up for putting some dough into a fund to pay for his fiesta to go into a local garage or cover expenses for someone to go sort it out.

A local garage would be what, £100? To get the exhaust sorted. 25 people at £4 would soon get it funded.

Who are we gonna PayPal it to? Should we send to Bub direct?

if it's fester repairs then that makes the most sense, if it's a cheapo car then I guess it would be to the shiter selling it

Here's a thought... as I understand things, Chompy has paid Bub for the Picasso.  So if a couple of Shiters were to apply themselves, that car could be delivered to its new owner by teatime tonight.  One worry dealt with, at hardly any cost, just two blokes having a day out burning some petrol.

Fiesta sorting would make most sense in my world anyway. Happy to chip in, just tell me where.

OK, I am only about 20 mins from Derby - PM me if I can transport anything/anyone.  I only have one working motor (apart form an old yank convertible) and it has no towbar, but I can ferry people/tools etc about if it helps - free all afternoon.  Failing that happy to chuck in a tenner.

I was also thinking about this. I'm up for a drive to Derbyshire-ish to help get the Fiesta roadworthy, meet a few of you, whatever needed to help out.

Not sure if it'd be practical as I'm 70-80 miles away but I've got a garage business in a little village nr Burnley, Lancs and if someone could get the fezza up here, I'd be more than happy to sort out the jobs needed and get it MOTd too if need be...

Too far away to make the blindest bit of practical difference but more than happy to bung a few bits of virtual Monopoly money into the pot

Jesus, Bubs had another punt? That lad has no luck at all, I'm pretty brassic but put me down for a tenner, maybe use the change to get a set of bullbars and a sump protector to give the motor a chance!

I'm up for contributing to a collective collection, been feeling pretty sorry for myself recently, but it's fuck all compared to what these 2 boys have been through in the past 24 hours, and what Bub's luck has been like for months.

I've got a picasso 1.6 pez here that is utterly reliable covering 160 miles a week with me. It stands me at £300 so if that could be covered, I'm sure we could find someone willing to get it across to him.

To put this into perspective do we know what the Fester needs to become roadworthy? Derby is not too far from me (Amington in Tamworth). I think the consensus seems to be getting bub mobile, but actually what does bub want......

I've just got the messag from Tamworth bay and seen this post. Thank you all for The great great gestures. My first issue is irrelevant of my health but getting the Picasso to chompy. The car is in Duffield, has a small blow on the exhaust but the key is over 120 miles away! Regards my situation, the fiesta has a new centre pipe fitted by me the other day. Due to weather and the obvious crash though I haven't fitted rear silencer nor the spring. I've lost a monumental amount of tools and all my tool box's as they was all in the back of the van and will now be scattered over numerous square feet of Yorkshire fields so I no longer have the tools to fix the fiesta nor do I feel I am capable at this point in time. I will not risk my health anymore. I could honestly do with a second pair of eyes to cast over the car incase I've missed anything. The other issue I have though as I've mentioned is my left leg is in a bad way. (wasn't best before the crash) but worse now and I am concerned regards using clutch. If the fiesta passed its test I may have to pas it on for a small automatic. My head is all over at the minute so id be grateful of ideas and what people think I should do.

just heard back from Bub, he loves the idea of someone looking over the fester, it still needs a spring and a back box - easily within our funds I would say. But he did say that his left leg is still giving him hassle and more so after the accident so it may be worth seeing how that goes. Either way it's worth sorting the fester, so if everyone is happy with this it seems best plan is:

1, sort fester, either by 1, someone having a go at it, we can fund the bits, 2, pay a local garage to have a look, 3, take up the very kind offer above if someone could trailer to him and we fund fuel for trailer queen.

2, arrange delivery of pickarseO to Chompy (sorry I didn't add you in at the beginning mate, I didn't realise the hassle it had caused you as well or I would have). Again we can sort train ticket/ fuel from donations.

So if anyone can help with any of the above, stick your name down.
