Sportys latest shite. Five pot pasta-blaster. Now with new shiter.

It's now passed. It's still parked outside the teting station as I couldn't get a lift to collect it this afternoon, so I'll go and get it in the morning.

Now come the decisions.

Do I start arsing about with it to make it faster, or just leave it as is?

Do I do all the little jobs to make it noce and tidy, or just leave it a bit "rough and ready"?

Do I get back to the guy on RR and see if he'll swap for the XUD powered 205?

Whichever way, the Leon will be going up for sale shortly.

Decisions. Decisions. Decisions.

If I was you sporty I'd just run it as is for a few weeks to see how you get on with it ... If you like it then think about tarting up a bit, if not sell/swap.

Ps. If selling I might* be interested, I've always liked the look of these.

So, I taxed this thing this afternoon, and have pressed it into service. Seeing as Mrs S's 147 is going to a new (shiter) home this weekend, I've given her the Leon for the time being, and will be using this.

Still not sure what to do with it.

1. Sensible head says run it around for the next couple f months, whilst I'm on placement and will be doing more miles.

2. Impulsive head says try and shift it so I can buy the yelllow 406 coupe.

3. RR hangover (stupid) head says, seeing as it's a bit scruffy, chop the springs and olive drab it.

Yaaay:) are bits of my old yin helping it live on?

Didn't end up using anything off that one in the end. Mrs S used it for a couple of days, but wasn't too struck on it, so I bunged it on faceache and sold it to a local trader. Ended up going cheap, but I couldn't really keep it and risk it running out of test, as it would probably have ended up as scrap fodder. I really wanted to nick the interior out of the roffle car, but the rear seats are miles different between saloon and estate, so it was a no-go.

ach too bad- sounds like it went the way it would have here:)

be interested to know what the diesel is like to drive!

Does it drive nicely then? Quick enough? If so keep it for a bit and enjoy

Doesn't drive bad, and goes pretty well, too. It's just squeaking and tapping a bit from the aux belt. I've checked all the idlers for play with the belt off and there doesn't seem to be any play or stiffness in anything so I'm a bit baffled there. It also has the same annoying creak from the front as the raffle one had. If it's balljoints would I get away with squirting something into them to lube them? Certainly don't want to get into changing arms if I can help it.

Mine had a creak on the front that got progressively worse until it rained. It was a bottom ball joint absolutely mullered, I didn't feel any play in it when on but was a shocker unloaded. Difficult to isolate as almost everything clonks or creaks on the front of a 156 JTD 2.4!

Grease can't hurt, but it didn't make much difference to my wife's 147.

Driving the thing did though, after a few weeks of regular use most of the squeakage has gone.

This thing now seems to be draining it's battery daily. I charged it and left it disconnected, and it started fine, but if you leave it overnight with the battery on, it goes flat. It's charging at about 13.6v. Is that enough?

Anyway, because of this, I've developed an otherwise irrational dislike of this car. It drives well, it's pretty fast, it's good on juice, but something about it just isn't "doing it" for me. Maybe it's the fact that it still smells a bit. Maybe it's the squeaky aux belt. Maybe it's the creaky front suspension. I don't know for sure, but I think it might be time to go.

It owes me around the £300 mark, although I'd take a close bid from a shiter, and may also take a PX with cash either way, depending on what it is. Either that or charge the battery and eBay the fucker!

Anyone?

13.6v sounds a tad on the low side; whats the standing voltage like? (like, battery voltage an hour after it's been run)

How easy is it to get to the back of the alternator? Can you measure the voltage there?

Could be as simple as a battery thats long overdue a change, could be a lack of voltage reaching the battery

Standing voltage was about 12.3 if I remember correctly.

Alternator looks like a pig to get to.

Aaarggh!

Something is draining the battery - connect a multimeter in current mode in series with the negative battery terminal and pull fuses until the current reading drops significantly - there's your drain

And a very nice car.

When I got home I switched it off, tried to start it and just got click of death. Luckily I didn't stall it on the way home!

I didn't see that deal coming, although I suppose the Moog motor bingo sheet was filling up. Mystery battery drain - CHECK. Mystery pong - CHECK.

I look forward to seeing it in the flesh, as long as the Car Take Back guy doesn't beat me to it.

If it makes you feel any better, I got the same with that BMW.
