How cheap are these getting ALPHA ROMERO 159

Bloody hell! That's a beauty.

Probably the best car I've ever had. My one was identical in colour and spec but had the 1.9 jtdm motor.

I think the early ones like this are a bit flakey as Alfa stopped the production line of 159's for a while to improve quality as the early ones had Speke tr7 build quality levels.

I love the look of these, in fact I was watching the start of a James Bond film the other day and thought I bet Aston Martin were pissed off that the bad guys cars look better than Bond's.

Can't understand how such a relatively large car can be just a 2+2, I looked at an estate and when I sat in the drivers seat it was touching the back seat.

Damn sexy looking car, for not a lot of money !

Watch for rot in the front subframes as this is very common and over a grand for a new one

Would need to be a pez 4 me.

Mind you, the 2.4 5 pot diesel is a very good engine.

I was after a JTD one of these last year but got the Mini instead. They look like a new car!

Those triple headlight are a throwback to these:

What happened to the idea of Alfas and V6s? Not to mention there's hardly any petrol engines at all? Sad times, I spent at least 30 seconds considering one as a possibility.

Ha, posted too slow. That looks much better :)

It would be a brave person who took on one of these on a shiters budget. They might be cheap to buy initially but from talking to the Alfa specialist I used to take mine too they can bite you pretty hard. Of course if you can do lots of work yourself that would help. Shame as they are a nice looking car. I think they are quite a bit heavier than the 156 too which means the diesels don't give great economy so a petrol might be the wiser choice if that's important to you. Will also add that my comments are based on heresay and secondhand gossip so could be complete bunkum.

Oh don't.... When I was a wet behind the ears new driver (erm, 4 years ago) I was eyeing up 159s as a step up from my Fiesta. Then shelved it because skint. So have done the man-maths every few months, and now man-maths actually might stack up!

And that 2.4 is localish too. Hmm....

Is it just a mark on my screen on every pic, or does the one in the OP link have a rusty scab on the leading edge of the bonnet?

They may be made out of GM cast off's but they look fantastic. I can't think of a single better looking 4 door car built in the last 15 year, The interiors are nice too.

I didn't think it drove fantastically.  Just like any modern diesel really but I always, always looked back when I parked it and had a little wobbly lip when it went away.

I'd have a black petrol manual one of these in a heartbeat. One of the best looking modern cars ever.

I had the 159 Sportwagon with the 1.9 JTDM engine. It was beautiful, stylish, drove nicely...and managed to munch it's way through 2 (plastic) inlet manifolds, 2 EGR valves and a turbo in 18 months of ownership.

I'd have another in a heartbeat, but it would have to be a pez.

Would. Love the look of these.

I almost bought a nearly new one back 2010, but the depreciation promised to be ruinous so I got a Yeti instead. Now the depreciation has already ruined someone else, a V6 wagon looks mighty appealing.

When I bought that shitey e60 I had last year it was a toss up between the BMW and a 159 2.2 JTS Touring,  I wish I'd went for a 159 I'd probably still have it. That or it'd be outside on the drive in 800 bits.

Looked at a 156 a bit back it had been owned by an enthusiast, which is what you'd look for in a car like this, it had failed every test as far as the record goes on big stuff like failed racks, corrosion in the floor, subframe corrosion. Whilst it was cheap I could see he'd had enough when he said 'open to any offers'. A broken man. Brow beaten by constant trips to factors who most likely could get him the parts but on the condition he'd be 73 by the time they arrived. But then I'm guessing the summers day experience of caning the 2.0 twin spark down a country lane had started to wear off after the 13 years he'd had it.

159 is a different car to 156

For expensive trouble, they are worse.

Had my mid-90s 146 up on ramp next to a '59-plate 159.  The 159 was rustier underneath.

Still would though
