Beware northern journalists bearing Pujoes...

Mr Thicky from Thicktown here, but have no idea what this thread is actually about. Apart from a 605.

Did I fall asleep in a meeting?

Entirely possible.

I bought the 605 from Partridge in December.

We used it to go and look at a GSA FPB7 bought (and then rejected); on the way, Chaseracer drove. He's now actively searching for a 605 as a result.

It's had a weird drivetrain problem since I bought it. On the way back from Gloucester, it sounded like a wheel was about to part company - so we ditched in a layby on the A40.

Forum types are trying to work out what the problem is.

UPDATE CONCLUDES.

When did you take those photos, Mo? I can't work it out.

I thought you might not.

Remember when I spotted that traffic warden giving out over stay parking tickets? I shouted out to him from chez_Mo that I'd move both cars which he was happy to let me do and not issue parking tickets, I moved both the Rover and the Peugeot. Whilst looking for a spot for the Peugeot I took it into the local carpark for a "photoshoot" which my camera seems to have royally fucked up.

This photo appeared in CCB, and was one of the first shots I took of the 605.

It appears to have been looked after for most of its life - bar a couple of blebs on the doors, it's mostly free of rust. The paint is horrible, however. The roof and bonnet have rashes of lacquer peel, there's scuffs on the lower half of the front bumper and there's a missing slam panel badge at the rear (which later turned up in the glove box). The side rubbing strips are also cracked. I'm not sure how people do this. The angles of these photos are deliberate to hide the ming.

I managed to find a 1994 106 from Howlett of Lavenham with original dealer plates. Stunning priorities mean that these will be replaced by a DMB repro set sooner rather than later. C U LATER DRIVETRAIN WORRIES. Bizarrely, a chunk of the rear bumper went somewhere, too. There's the remains of an old GSM phone set up which will be going at some point.

I bought the car off Partridge after he'd disappeared back down South. He'd left tons of stuff inside; as I was using FBJ as a temporary daily after my C4 died, I decided to at least clear it out so I knew where I was starting from a valeting point of view.

Here's hoping the drivetrain shimmy isn't too expensive to fix. So far SCTSH_ANDY has flushed out the autobox with Mobil LT71141 (instead of the 'compatible' Dexron III that was inside), given it a service and replaced the wiper blades. I also hosed the classic rock CDs out of the autochanger in favour of my own dire compilations.

XM - one night stand, 605 - long term relationship. Fair? I met dugong's 605 a few weeks back. It looked immaculate in the dark at least so I'm assuming it's just as good in daylight.

As someone trying a long term relationship with an XM and who has lived with this 605 I'd be minded to agree. The XM is like a very attractive but high maintenance girl who seems like fun at 2am when you're half cut but ultimately cares more about her own problems than yours. She might have a masters degree in advanced suspension and great inflatable bits but she has no common sense.

By contrast the 605 is the girl next door who makes you food and brings you hot drinks when you're poorly, who will never try to make you change who you are, and who will never judge you for your stupid decisions.

That said, under Partridge this was a very poorly 605. Hopefully that will change now Jon has it.

Day Five at Chaseracer Towers.  Dave is still surfing Leboncoin for 605s, trying to hide the search from Domestic Management.  The 2.1TD auto near Blois looks promising...

Spears or reapers 605.  This could be useful for any drivetrain bits you need if they're NLA.

These are such handsome cars, I'd like to try a 2.1 diesel.  They must be pretty rare now too, I haven't seen one on the road for a long time.  I remember a magazine article (might have been Auto Express) did a group test back in about 1996 of a Safrane, 605, Rover 800 and XM, they looked an odd bunch as they were all starting to look a bit dated by then but would happily have had any of them.  It'd be good to repeat the test now 20 years have passed.

Hmm, if I can get it to sparkle with Mrs Ruff, then I could well be, I've some cartoon related amusement park brownie points to cash in at some point!

Seriously: yes.

I will take a wedge of folding euros and see what the 605 exchange rate is like.

Come on then. I need to scout for places to take the long suffering as she's finally sorting her passport out.

Just ran it past her, I think "just woken up during the day after a night shift" may be my new time for seeking permission.

She told me to go for it when the time came :D

Say the word Mr @skattrd and we shall make it so!

Nice one Mr_Ruff, we can have a chat about potential foreign shenanigans when I pop round for filterz.

Apologies for thread hijack ... please resume discussing big Peugeots.
