Great video, what is the car about a minute in? (Just before the expensive 911 accident!) I don't recognise it.

Forgotten how much I liked Opel Kadett Coup's and bloody hell, those little rear-engined Simca's & NSU's are tail happy. The race truck was great too, from when truck racing was fun.

Also, can you imagine the looks on the OMGOLDSKOOLFORD brigades faces would have to see both the Mk1 & the Mk2 RS2000 being rallied?

Is it just me or is seeing this type of car being pushed alot more interesting than really high tech stuff? Case in point, I appreciate the Scooby is an excellent car but it looks so dull on this video (despite being faster) when compared to the older kit there.

The Manta getting wrecked made me laugh as I recall a complete bellend of a head of dept I once had the displeasure of working for, he thought he was a major talent behind the wheel and wrote off his very nice Manta when he tried doing a road rally in it - Feckin'Twat (basically almost no-one liked him so little sympathy except for the car). Not that it curbed his arrogant nature, still thought he was a 'driver'.

Interestingly, trees and houses are currently being hit with pretty much the same chod - and not because these guys can't afford modern tosh.

Peter Hilliard reckoned he could tell on which stage of the rally the photos of his car were taken by the number of panels remaining unmolested.  :-D

I have a few of the Car Wars videos knocking around, and loads of chod bought the farm, especially Volvo 242 Turbos in rallycross, complete with stupid 'Its a Volvo' in a pseudo Swedish Chef style voice

I loved the Samara at about 6m in, hit's a tree and kind of says "and fuckin what like" before limping off with a wobbly wheel  :-D

Good question. Anyone? It's got a Gandini arch but I think that's a red herring.

Also enjoyed the Samara being hard as nails (and how good do 3dr Samaras look all of a sudden???)

Whatever it is the closest I can get is the secret lovechild of a Fiat Coupé and a Mazda RX-7, I can't quite identify it and it seems really familiar, particularly that back end.

I wondered if it was a Venturi or a Mega, but the Citroen ZX rear lights say no...

the reason the older stuff is more entertaining is down to several factors 2wd with more power than grip, or little power therefore a need to loose as little speed/momentum as poss..

as for mk1/2 escort you must be kidding there's prob more used in anger now than in their hayday & is the reason they fetch strong money & that their getting imported from as far as aus & that mk2 2dr shells have started to be re -manufactured.

Im just quietly pissing myself at the very last clip with the bloke who nearly went "water skiing" behind the Escort - I mean who the hell had a handy tow rope with them at these events when spectating?

The Scandinavian fans have this as standard equipment.

It's a rope with numerous hoops, enabling spectators to pull cars out of ditches/off trees/snow hills/etc. and into safety zones.

Usually it works extemely well, since a gang of 20 odd people can pull a car out of anything.

Only in this case, it was attached a tad prematurely.
