There are these cars featuring either round or square headlights, depending on trim level. Which spring to your mind and which are nicer in which shape?

Escort Mk2

Passat 1

FSO Polonez!

Sorry for multiple posts but my mind keeps coming up with more cars.

I never understood why the Austin 3-Litre was changed from square to twin round lights , along with gaining 1/4 lights and losing the slotted wheels, between launch and full production. Are there any square ones left?

Scirooco 1 - deffo nicer with square ones. And closer to Giugiaro's original design.

Scirocco, of course! The Amis call them TV-sets and they really look right. Only on SciroccoS and SciroccoL/LS. GL/GLS and TS had twin round ones.

Mk1 Escort.

HB Viva, export models to some markets had round lights.

Not sure which I prefer; always tends to be that people like to put the one on that is rare in their own market.

Eddy, I'll have to disagree with you. I love the old skool Polonez square lights.

Fair enough Peter; I probably said what I said because the round-light car was mine, and the other my dad's.  But I stand by it.

Never seen a Polonez with round headlights and I like it - there is a whiff of Mk2 Escort about it. Even though it's the older car, I think it looks more modern than the square lights

And here's the third combination, note the round lights with the bumper/indicators of my dad's car.  This is an earlier model, about 1980/81.

Series one Allegros had square steering wheels apart from the ones the police bought which were changed to round ones.

* Not all series ones, the change to round wheels for all cars was a few months before series 2 started.

Doesn't matter which headlights you've got, they're crackin' looking cars. With my Polish background I'm obviously a little biased. My dad had two brand new FSO 1500s back in the 80s but couldn't stretch to a Polonez.

Square please, round looks just wrong here. Came up for the US market and then back to Europe for late top of Range 504's.

505... even worse, totally looses face with round lights

Mk2 Transits could have either round or square.

Think I prefer round myself.

How has nobody mentioned Dolomites yet?

Square for 1300/1500/1500SE, twin round for HLs and Sprints.

Of course, I would think of...

Volkswagen LTs look better with the later square lights IMO.

Also, this Jaaaag looks even more caddish with one of each...  a bit like a tomcat that's been fighting again.

I saw an LDV convoy with morrette style quad round lamps and more stick on tat than a PT cruiser gathering yesterday which made me giggle.

Sherpa's came with round and square over the years.

Sadly no square lit 3 Litres seem to have got away, I think the idea died at pre-production stage along with the "Westminster" model name the car was to have had.

The 1500 had twin rounds on introduction, I think, it was only when the Toledo became a lesser order of Dolmoite that 1500s got square ones.
