With the Rover 25 Gti acting the giddy goat, I thought I'd have a little look at the old ebay.

I'm getting evicted soon so an estate would be handy. A french one ideally.

Click.

Low bid.

Forget.

I was driving home from work when my phone buzzed.

COMGRATUMALASHANS ON YOURE NEW CAR WINNA!

EBAY MUCH HAPPY FOR YOURE SUCCESS!

Hooray!

Thankfully, the steed in question was only a short electric trail ride away (we have short electric trains here) so I fucked off today to collect.

Looked up the address on streetview so I know where I was headed.

Its an LX so the trim game is weak, but the price was right and it came with a half tank of genuine pump diesel.

Like these, I used to drive my bosses a lot when they were new, i remember it being bloody slow with 90bhp but it was a comfortable cruiser, huge space too.

Its far from perfect and its been to the moon and back but it genuinely drives lovely and its only had one owner.

This is 110bhp and seems sprightly enough to be honest.

90bhp would be a 1.9td, this'll have 110 and will give a pleasant shove in the back at 2,700rpm (somewhere there, the memory fades) just when an HDi is running out of puff.

Looks damn good to me, I'd take a dozen at that price.

Yeah, mine did that, poxy little clips are useless, They're screws on later 406s.

I went from a 405 estate to a 406 estate (was a 1.8pez though) and found it to be quite a let-down after the old car.

Certainly not a bad car and the interior felt more spacious but I preferred the drive of the 405.

I might have to step away from my usual anti-Frogchod stance and express a certain amount of horn for this.

NOICE. Proper engine. Shame about the suspension but hey, that cloth is quite holly. Sort of. You could be winning a mahoosive Volvo estate for just a fiver though. Just thought I'd mention it...

Ha! double or quits. Savv has screws on the window edge strip [no way it'll move] HOWEVER the plastic has warped away from the door and looks like a hockey stick, in the door mirror.

Yeah, I preferred the 405 interior, but the 406 has far more headroom (even with a sunroof) , which was the only thing that scuppered my 405 stewardship.

I'm in for that as well mate, but roffles come with no garuntees.

Cheers man, finding it hard to find anywhere decent that'll accept the dog but we're hunting hard.

If all goes tits up, suppose you could always live in it. Maybe you could get enough family members in for an amusing Xmas dinner too!

Not bad for £150 and far better value than a night with a prostitute and inevitable VD for a similar price lol

A nice lie down xmas dinner in the back of a french wagon is just what every family needs.

Decent MOT history, just bulbs, tyres and handbrake really. https://totalcarcheck.co.uk/FreeCheck?regk=p622mfl

Yeah man, I checked before I bid.  Its been well kept even though its a high miler.  New battery too!

Nice to see it wearing it's original Brintons of Cambridge dealer get-up. Now renamed to Marshalls IIRC.

Is this a turbo or NA diesel?

406 1.9 TDs are gutless, this one looks like a bargain and the mileage wouldn't put me off, well used and maintained>under-used and ill maintained.

Can't go wrong at that price.  Well bought!  And good luck househunting too.
