Where else would confusion be except in your head  :-D

Excuse me my knees are confused. They don't go out very often on their own and it is frightening for them.

Sorry mate, it just made me giggle.

The bubblegum machine is from the 70's, and is red, so I would expect to see it atop a fire engine. Most patrol cars have light bars, and by then they would likely have been the LED type. Also the "state police" sign on the hood looks odd...

I've never been to Michigan, mind, so I wouldn't have seen these in the metal, but I'm quite sure the car would not have been sold with any police livery still in place. Since Ford broke the Crown Vic off, and the taxi companies have gone to Priuses, now is a good time to look for one before the scene tax hitz yo.

Michigan State Po-Po still use the bubblegum light dome and the hood sign.

Actual LOL. Why would someone go to the bother of making their own car look like an unmarked police car? Whats the logic?

I think it makes him feel important. He's a strange chap. You know the type, in a pub quiz team he'll want the title of 'chief pen holder', or 'executive marking technician'. I suspect that he likes to think that driving his 3 series along the motorway at 69.8 mph makes people slow down and therefore he's helping the plod or summat. He's a train driver, I think he spends too much time alone.

Never ask a police officer for legal advice.  They know fuck all about the law.  I am not kidding.  There is NOWT unlawful about driving a copped up furrin car such as the Mercury.

Any cozzer says that  it's unlawful, let him provide some chapter and verse for that.  Ooops, there ain't none.

Reason for asking is that I have had conflicting advice about using the now copified* Mercury on the road.

Only driven it home from the signwriters so far but got grumbled at by a real cop. Is it legal to drive an historic and clearly foreign Police car in the UK? No flashing lights fitted or such silly stuff... Just a replica 1993 NYPD cop car.

Didn't get into bother, but the police chappy suggested that it was illegal and should be on a trailer!

I disagree, many other such cars exist and are driven, but would welcome any advice or wisdom!

all lights, police stickers must be removed/covered,if your an enthusiast for show purpose you need to apply to your local constabulary to display the force badge,as your car is a black and white, insure it an tell em fuck off get some doughnuts and chill, its not like its an imitation uk police car

just thought I would put this in,my mum and stepdad both worked for Cheshire police, and went on m6 vosa inspections,as long as the vehicle has a uk mot, insurance, valid road fund licence(tax) and must not purport to be an emergency vehicle all should be ok.

I think they try and quote the impersonating a policeman thing.

Ben

The relevant offence requires intent to deceive.    Also, the offence exists only in respect of impersonating a member of a UK police force. See sections 90 and 101 Police Act 1996.  I can pretend to be Commissioner Gordon, Sheriff Roscoe P Coltrane, Deputy Dawg, Mad Max, Inspector Clouseau, Wallander, you name it, but none of these cozzers are UK cozzers, so Plod can do nowt to stop me.

Used the car to nip to the supermarket earlier, got pulled over by a traffic car!

The guy just wanted a look at the Mercury and complimented me on it. All Coppaz ain't bastards. Official.

ACA(still)B, BTB got rid of the car ages ago I think. We're not really any clearer on what you can get away with in practice though; it's meant to mean you can't impersonate a police officer (a UK one, would anyone really pull over for Buford T. Justice here?), but it seems to be interpreted, sometimes, as anything vaguely policey isn't allowed.

Have to admit I did used to feel a bit like Moses when I drove my silver V40 up the motorway wearing a white shirt. No intent to deceive though, it was all purely accidental.
