Small Van Shite

Recommended Posts

My lad ( 17 in 13 days time) is making noises about wanting a van - Any problems with insuring them for SD & P?

Also what do you *the Autoshite collective) suggest - Im thinking C15 myself but a good non shagged one is probably going to be like white dog poo.

I'm always a bit suspect about any young lad who wants a van when he isn't a self employed plumber or has a motocross bike.

I can see why a young lad wants a van when he isn't a self employed plumber or has a motocross bike....

Insuring a small van (CDV type) used to be a proper PITA. Most insurers just couldn't get their heads around the concept of van ownership SD&P-wise. This was in the late 90's.

Not sure of the situation now but looked into getting a small pick-up and my insurers palmed me off onto another lot for a quote (was reasonable I have to say). Haven't done an exhaustive search, would like to know if any progress has been made.

A C15 is a good choice if you can find an un-FUBAR'd one!

dunno about insurance on a van, but i fancied a Rover Commerce/MG Express though these would be no good for a youngster to crash drive about in.

i would buy the kid something truly shitty such as a Sherpa/LDV convoy as these bring my other half, who used to drive for a living, out in a cold sweat...

The escort is cheapest thing I've had insured. Just under 80 quid a month. Consider I passed my test this yea and the corsa, punto an micra where all over 86 quid.

You should have a word with your mate, Bub. If it's his van and you're doing all the work for him he should pay the insurance, not you.

I'm not paying it yet. And the work I did was for another friend. Basically 1 friend bought van, sorted insurance etc and I use it. Another friend asked for assistance, put diesel in etc. Not many car boots on yet!

Aldo he only has bike license hence I'm designated driver! I'll be going half's on it in tine, its not actually a bad van at all

Lucky me had the full use of mother's (rusty as fcku) Transit when I was 17 and my own very tiny van when I was 18.

Can't recommend teenage van ownership enough. Life changing.

My first four-wheeled vehicle was an Escort van - this was in 1998 and I was 19.  I had no issues insuring it for SDP use (I was at uni at the time so would have struggled to convince insurers that I needed a van for work).

Shirley just get some quotes and see?

I think that they won't be too bad, the cause of most teenager car accidents must be either too much POWA or driving around with 4 mates in the car egging you on.

No chance of either of those that in a wanked out Berlingo with a n/a dizzler and only 2 seats.

Plus, if he wanted a wanky Berlingo with an n/a dizzler, he'd only have to travel to Chester.

106 van.

If you can find one.

Here's one, but I don't think even I could bear the misery of it.

May I suggest this fine conveyance?  Absurdly cheap at the moment, although likely to go up somewhat before the end of the auction.

106 van would curtail any planned shagging activities *** Goes off to search eBay ***

Merely purchase an estate car, or an MPV, spray paint the side windows the same colour as the rest of the bugger, Bob's yer uncle :-D

Removal of rear seats is optional, depends on likely useage of said hybrid vehicle.

Got this little beauty* for next to nowt as a non runner. Crank sensor solved the problem and all is good. 1.9d but not veg friendly.

Got insured for my 17 year old lad, found it much cheaper than a car and no black box needed. He's now passed and it's still cheaper than a car and still no black box. Best option I reckon, no speeding and only one spare seat.
