Someone find me a stereo...... please?

I need a new head unit for the 'bastard of much greenness' . So what's the problem I hear you all asking? The problem is: I want it to control my cd autochanger and none that I can find do!

Google and eBay are failing me...

My knowledge is failing me....

It seems to be one of those things that no one does anymore but I have only just dragged myself into the 90s so anything modern gives me the eeby-jeebies!

Any one got any ideas?

What CD changer is it?

It might be worth, if you really want a CD Changer, buying a matched pair that work together.

Not what you asked for but I really like my pure dab 260 which has Bluetooth meaning I can stream all my CDs from my iPod ( took days to upload them all). Doesn't look too bad in the merc. But may look too modern in a Bentley- I think it wouldn't look right in my X1/9.

My c5 had a cd slot in the head unit and a clarion changer under the seat, so they are available somewhere.

Have you searched somewhere like

The whole lot is Alpine stuff. The head unit works but only on the passenger side speakers... but only on the CD! A different headunit was trued and it all worked fine, all the wiring/amps/crossovers and whatever have been checked and passed as 'good'. I have even written to A;;pine but they aren't replying!

Oh, I've got a 1990s Sony xplod head unit which probably controls a cd changer you can have for free but it had the same problem as your alpine in that sound was only out of one channel most of the time. Hence why I replaced it with the dab pure.

Somewhere I also have a working Phillips cassette unit that was Citroen cx original fitment. No one wants these anymore either.

I think this is an Alpine unit. It has a 3 disc changer in the head unit and also controls a 6 disc changer. I don't know if all the wiring is specific to Volvo or not but you're welcome to it.

I don't think Bentley did double din units! He probably needs a very subtle stylish and sophisticated single din head unit that costs more than most people's cars.

Still says Volvo on it though ;-)

Have you searched eBay for an exact replacement? Assuming it's one you'd like to keep and can do cd changers.

That's because you are looking for a technology that is effectively dead when it comes to cars. A headunit with a rear USB socket, an extension lead into the glovebox and a cheap USB memory stick would give you the same functionality without the drawbacks of CD's. So would a headunit with built-in memory for that matter.

Fix the present one?

I would volunteer, but given my slowness you'd be in for a very long wait.

whats wrong with getting a matched set from ebay ?   older ones are worth nothing pretty much

honda used apline stuff for accord- my mate got a "gathers" multi changer for a honda which connected to his alpine h/u cos the gathers/honda stuff is made by alpine

plus the illumination on a honda spec unit wont be garish like some

if all else fails i'm sure there are interface cables which let most thing connect to most other things- eg sony changer into nissan clarion h/u

Funnily enough I have discovered a cd changer fixed behind the driver's seat in the Smart, unfortunately the matching Grundig head unit (which was codeless) has been changed for a Sony so they don't talk to each other as far as I can tell. Also on the subject of redundant units I have the radio/cassette out of my old Kangoo which I think is only any use in another Kangoo as the display is in the dash not the unit. If anyone has a Kangoo (or any other Renault with the same set up) they are welcome to it.

Daft question Mr xtriple, have you tried that chap on ebay who is always breaking RR and Bentley?

I suspect that's a pretty non-standard setup in your car, as those head units (fitted to the V70 mk1s) don't have an inbuilt amplifier. They need an external one (under the driver's seat generally) to work.

I'd give a head unit and amp like that a home though, if anyone was getting rid!

It's not standard to the car and there isn't an amp with it, it was only installed to check the code I got for it and see if it all powered up. I'm unlikely to use it so it is up for grabs. It's a heavy old unit though, so postage is likely to be in the region of £1000000.
