I don't think that's bad at all. When my Civic was in Classics Monthly I got sweet FA and I was even expected to pay for the photos that were taken on top of the hotel i had to fork out for too.

WHAT? You had to pay for the photos?

I bet he's glad he asked now, 3 pages of unfunny offers of Zafiras etc and other cars nowt like what he asked for, plus assorted moans about previous treatment by car magazines. Basically a load of worthless spam

Posted

In defence of worthless spam (it's indefensible really I know) - the thread would have disappeared from the first page if only the people with suitable cars to offer (i.e. no-one yet) had replied. Maybe this way someone with a suitable vehicle is more likely to spot it?

Sticky for shouts for help/responses to help, then dig out the last modern classics general thread for general chit chat?

Surely the Audi will be far superior to the rest?

In terms of howling understeer, certainly.

That wasn't ment to sound as cheeky as it reads it was just ment as a question.

Sorry about that if it offended.

.

It seems the chaps idea of buying us lunch was a sausage sandwich a can of coke and a kit kat, not quite my idea of a free lunch.

Sounds a lot like a free lunch to me..... Yum.

I have none of the required cars. But if you ever need a 3rd gen Prelude....

Seems like a good idea to ask on here, I can't help on this occasion but would be more than happy to in future should you wish to do an article on low-spec mid-90s hatchbacks (can't imagine you would though!) if only to get my car in print - which would obviously add £££ (three pounds) to its value.

its also reminded me to go and buy a copy of the magazine since I'm probably in the target demographic!

Idea for the future: offer a free lunch & see what cars you get offered... then write an article about them :-)

(Give me a shout when you want to do a Discovery 300 Tdi vs LT35 motorhome vs Calibra V6 vs Mazda MX5 mk 2.5 shoot-out... lol)

If it wasn't for people having their cars used in the features there wouldn't be any magazines at all.

It's not like I would expect them to offer the moon on a stick or a blow job from the photographer but maybe the cost of the petrol, dinner and a mention in the mag.

This is the right place to ask for old crap cars but really after the reviews the first issue got here surly anyone working there would know we don't have the kind of stuff they're after

I had to pay for all the fuel as well as £100 for a room for me and the wife in Coventry as it was an early start the following morning and after the photos were taken i was told I could view them on the photographer's website once the magazine was published, when i did view them 3 months later they had watermarks across them and i was told i had to pay something like £10 per photo.

All i actually got was a cheese sandwich and a cup of coffee from Greggs paid for by the writer, I didn't even get the free copy of the magazine that i was told I'd get.

I did manage to screengrab a few photos from the photographer's own page before he deleted them.

I have looked for and totally failed to find a copy of the magazine in question TBH. Regardless of the quality of the lunch provided.

Cheese butty and coffee from Greggs? Yak.

I think given what a shit opinion you have of me, and magazines as a whole, I'll can this one.

Thanks all for your help.

WTF?

Where did that come from?? I got the impression we were generally being helpful, in our own rather unique way. You were certainly offered a number of vehicles for possible future articles.

Eh??

Why?

It took me weeks but I finally found a copy of issue1 only a couple of weeks ago in WHSmiths in Croydon. They had loads of copies left, at least 10.

Summary... try WHSmiths.

And off someone goes into the sunset who might have given Autoshite some credibility, and in turn who might have found us a source of help and not so old motors to feature.

Keith, Ive skimmed back over the thread and Im sure no one thinks either you or the mag is shit.

I disagree with AlabamaShrimp, I think there is no harm in asking and I'd drive to a photoshoot within reason and only expect sandwiches for lunch. Obviously this isn't for everyone, but there isn't any harm in asking as long as the requirements and compensation is clearly laid out from the outset and then honoured.

Far from it.

Top bloke, excellent writer/editor, good mags.

Which model Renault 25 do you need, and manual or auto?

Happy to help if it fits in with my work patterns....

Great job guys

I PM'd him immediately to explain that there's no need to take offence, it's just the nature of AS contributors to be a bit 'special' at times.

He hasn't read the message yet, but I hope he hasn't been put off.
