Midlands massive man down

There is a quarry/industry yard a few hundred feet down Road. Scary I see your point mate. I didn't class my speed as excessive though. Only 40/45 max due to fog coming in,oncoming car and I know the road well.

Have you driven it yet?

No,rad bust and oil from sump I didn't try it.

I didn't mean it like you were tearing through mate, just that it ended in an accident hence excess. Could happen to anyone, and I'm glad you are OK!

I know you didn't mate and I didn't read it like that either,my apologies if I came across abrupt.

Good God! Glad you're alright though, mushy occupants are far harder to sort than pressed metal. SOC is right though, sounds like a slide due to speed and road conditions even if the speed seemed reasonable at the time. Hope the Vectra is mendable!

sorry to hear of your misfortune, as has already been said, at least you walked away unhurt.

I'm reading these comments and I'm starting to think perhaps I was going a tad too quick. I know Road so perhaps I was too confident. Should read roads better :-(

I'm off to get three hundred weight of cotton wool padding to wrap around you before you inflict anymore damage on yourself/innocent scenery/sheep/any more bloody cars!

Glad you're okay chap. Is Mr Racer on his way? Will dig out the BX toolbox if he is and head on up. Giz a location, if you please.

If you'd been going a bit faster, you might have cleared the wall mate.

On me way from that there Birmingham. Tell mr racer to keep his phone on!

I think he is on the road. This place is great. Such a feeling of camaraderie. I'm most appreciative. Mr Wilson I already know a dry stone wall builder! Did make me laugh though!

That's a shitter. I agree with the light though, when it loses traction the light will come on to warn you so I suspect its gone into a 4 wheel slide in the wet before making itself part of the scenery.

I'd inspect the underside very carefully before you spend any money on it, remember all your brake and fuel lines run underneath as well and if the sumps holed then there's a good chance the engines close to seizing too.

Personally I'd say it's time to looking for another car or hope your luck turns round on a Autoshite raffle.

I agree that this place is amazing. Almost a better response time than the RAC. I'm useless, but if I was anywhere close, I'd be on my way with a flask of bovril and high spirits.

Practical and friendly locals with common sense in situations like this are worth their weight in gold. You're lucky there mate.

The brake lines and fuel hoses won't have enjoyed being perched there. And then being dragged off.

Even if you can get it going again with a rad and sump from the scrappers, you'll not make it the happy car it once was without spending many hundreds. But have a really good look at it underneath (on a good ramp, with good lights) before you decide.

If you loved the car, I suggest you find another cheap Vectra and spend a day swapping all the best bits from this one to your new one. Then at least part of it gets to live on.

You may even find an auto.

Posted

See if Billy can get hold of a silver vectra auto with fucked doors, tyres, needing a cambelt and bogging interior? Weekend of parts swapping and you may get away with it.

If I was any closer I'd be along to help/get you pissed (medication allowing of course), bad luck dude

But then I crashed my old 206 doing that, pissing rain, greasy roads, I was taking the piss a bit with speed on my 2nd week of driving, slide, wtf is this, keep sliding, bang, hit the armco at the side. Happens to us all! I came down a local road the other week doing my usual 60, but had to brake exiting the sweeping bend for a wide tractor, that unsettled the car, if I was going 70 I reckon I would have had a worse time, by the time the back end got worse I;d scrubbed off loads of speed and it sorted itself out.

Sounds like this is just one of those bastard things rather than anything more sinister

The appearance is deceptive. It's not actually beached. The rocks aren't balancing the car like I thought it was. Chaseracer and fbp are on route so we will know soon enough

We are not a bad bunch on here except WilsonWilson.

The reason for this is that he is quite tall and torments us all with tales of most excellent fish and chips.

97.8% of us will never get that far oop north to verify this. Bastard ;)

I think it went sideways and slid down more than anything. I could see all Way under car and it wasn't teetering.

Is that bit at the front a structural crossmember or a rad support brakcket? If just the rad support, the approved vulgalor method of fixage or take your stress out on it with a bfh and bend it back.

Re holed sump, did the enging cut off? I would say did it stall but its an auto isnt it? If you can get a cheap sump, and everything else isnt too bad id be tempted to fill it with asda oil and try and fire it up...

Hopefully the fuel and brake lines are hidden up a bit, the exhaust prob took the brunt. Check it hasnt sliced the fuel tank up too

Posted

Hopefully the passenger side sill pushed must of it out the way, and im sure you dont care about a bent sill.

Posted

I'm not sure if subframe or rad support. It's a manual so I'm sure it stalled. I'm going to check everything over when I can. Couldn't see no gouges on the underneath or dents etc but I couldn't view it properly

Posted

The wall is nearly level with the road, not much damage to sill cover at all. Ripped front tyre off though and back one flat.

Posted

It might have escaped much damage if the rocks just acted as misshapen bearings as the wall tumbled,,may just be a pebble dashing of dents to the chassis rails etc especially over a large surface area of the underside compared to say one large rock v the mass of the car

I'm only about 20mins away from there just in the unlikely potential that more POWAH is need for towing or winging a wheel to the nearest part worn for replacement but offers there anyway

Posted

Just think, if it'd been a Zafira it might have caught fire too.  So there's that to be thankful for.

Thanks for that dry stone wall clip Ben, I watched something similar a few years ago. It was amazing  :-D
