Wonder what a Datsun Cherry would look like with TR7 rear.

I don't want to like that.  However......

How TF would they fit a RV8 transversely in there? That's a more likely reason for binning it that peeling paint on the door handles. Given BL struggled to get cars out the door with the same brakes on either side peeling paint doesn't even register.

Rover V8’s have been fitted to Princess transverse gearboxes - in a mini Clubman!

So no insurmountable problem in the huge engine bay of a Princess.

Another rubbish quick photochop but it gives some idea of what an 'Abbott Farnham' Capri might have looked like.

3-litre rival to the Scimitar.  They'd have to relocate the petrol tank though, it's normally upright in the boot behind the rear seat.

I want to see the fastback Zodiac estate that you must have created to make this.

Ford made one it survives in Australia fascinating story behind its survival.

I remember seeing  - in Sheffield in the '90s - a 5-door W126 S-class.  Possible even this one as it was the same pale met green.  The hatch panel from the rear had a look of Rover 800 to it and the car looked really rather good.

(photo pinched from curbsideclassic.com)

I can remember seeing that too, often parked in the 'Beauchief Hotel' car park.

Anyone ever fit one in a wedge then? Be a good sleeper.

PMSL.  Looks a bit like an early 70s Opel Commodore.

That with Ferguson four wheel drive and a blown 302 is my new Euromillions car.

This wouldn't have been too difficult to do, based on the 2-door shell, looks quite neat in an Austin ADO16 Countryman sort of way.

Any more info on that one?  Something similar (a pre-facelift Mk1) turned up in a black and white late 70s general street pic ages ago, appeared to have been used as a parts-van in everyday use for a garage.  It was reg'd as a van with DVLA.

Edit, just found this.  Described as one of possibly 3 built by Ford Australia (unconfirmed), the Capri Scorpion.

Well, it's interesting and different.  I wouldn't make any more than 3 though.

It was a damn shame Rootes didn't have the cash and Chrysler the vision to make the Asp.

The Swallow would also have been more interesting device than the pretty dull Rootes Arrow.

Absolutely.

The Asp coupe would have been a great little budget sportscar, good looking too.

They'd have been in big demand with amateur motorsporters, hillclimbs, etc.

I often wonder what a modern incarnation of the Hillman Imp would be like, a deliberately minimalist little rear engined car with fantastic handling, something the size of a little Suzuki Alto rather than a bloated BINI type car.  Wind up windows, etc.

MG EX-E.

I remember seeing this in the metal at a motorshow in the mid 80s. To a ten year old car-mad lad, this thing looked stunning. I don't dislike the lines thirty five years later either. I still think it's a crying shame MG went on to create the F/TF and then lost it all. Values will surely start to creep up before too long...

Seen previously on the thread but the TF coupe looks 'right' - even now. The EXE is more 'of its time', which may well be how I'll feel about the coupe in a few years time . . . if I've still got my marbles then.

It probably would have launched with that panel gap between wing and bumper.

Wow. I LOVE this. There's a real hint of Daytona about it. It would look even tastier if that front end was grafted onto the nose of a Mk3 GT6. Who's good with photoshop?! 😉

These look great in base spec. Reminds me of the base spec GT86 you could buy.
