Fantastic, I love these cars, in 1983 my Dad bought one, a 1980 saloon, same colour 2.8 carb engine but this had a 4 speed manual gearbox - most were fitted with the 3 speed auto. It was bought at a salvage yard and was an insurance write off, I think the price paid was £900. It was fire damaged, it looked like the owner had tried to torch it to claim from the insurance, the fire was under the front passenger seat but the windows were left shut so damage was limited to the seat, warped dash and headlining. It was fixed with a new dash from the dealers, a passenger seat from a Carlton in the local scrapyard, new headlining which was real fun to fit, refitting the sunroof was a real pain.

My Dad then run the car for 3 years before selling it, I was 17 in 1983 and had just passed my driving test and he added me as a named driver to his Motor Traders policy so I was able to drive it when allowed, what I remember is its prodigious thirst, quite low gearing (20mph per 1000rpm) Royales from late 1980 could be had with a 5 speed box. OYG 811W I believe is long gone.

Yours looks fairly decent, what are the front strut towers like? that seems to be where they all go first, may be wise to remove the front wings for a proper look, these cars would have lasted a lot longer if fitted with arch liners like the Senator B

I had loads of Royale saloons back in the day, but never a coupe. It was the Royale I always wanted.

Had a Monza for a while though.

What a corker. You can kind of see how lazy Vauxhall were, just slapped some new lights on and HAI I'M A NEW CAR CALL ME MONZA.

I'd still drop-kick a baby for one though.

The colour is aquamarine blue. Vauxhall used to sell the rattle cans ( I bought loads of them but it was back in 1989).

It needs the correct ronal alloys putting back on.

I had a green Monza 3.0E. BBU88T.

When it worked it was ace.

Completely agree!

Have the original alloys in the boot of my Range Rover-will put onto car when I get new tyres for them.

Haven't had much time to potch about with it as I'm still recovering from an operation.

As mentioned-I will be on the lookout for a spares car.

so why don't new cars come with velour?

McD's has found a way of making (more) profit, by selling the exterior packaging of their raw materials, to a completely unrelated industry?

Someone should phone their local audi dealer and ask if velour is an option
