I have  tried using the key on the passenger side but that is no good.   I will try the other method in daylight, but at present cannot see any such rectangular orifice as there mentioned on either side of the grille.

I had this with mine . Of course the battery is under the rear seat., which is handy I got a 3 foot dowl with a notch on the end, climbed into the boot and pushed the rear door button up through the ski hatch. I got the battery out the car then locked the door like a fanny. From then I just kept that stick in the boot.

Battery in engine compartment, no ski hatch.

This sounds like exactly like the type of thing that would happen to me.

Therefore, my offer is £500.

Is the lock seized or is it dead locked like you turn it and there's no resistance ?

That's what mine did it was a right pain the arse. Bit of a shite design really . I've no solutions that don't involve sticks.

Can you (or a tame aa person) jack up the front and get jump leads on it from underneath?

Starter positive terminal and anywhere on the block will do.

That screwdriver method suggested above might perhaps work for US spec cars, but on a European car is utterly useless.  There is no rectangular aperture in the position shown in the link (on either end of the grille).

I will try the boot bulb method next.

I have let my E32 go completely flat a couple of times, taking the boot light out and back feeding it with a jump pack to pop the central locking has worked every time.

The next challenge is to find how to get the cover off the boot light.  No doubt the method is simple, but it is not obvious!  The handbook is, of course, in the car.

I'm in!

The boot lamp terminal is tiny, and too small to get a great big claw of doom jumper attachment on, but I clipped on the red lead from a battery charger, clipped the jump lead to that, connected the black jumper to a random metal bit, and waited a few minutes.  Locks open!

Similar to the probably apocryphal story in one of one of dirk bogart's books about the buyer of Forwood's ( want to say Maserati, but think it may have been Renault!) dying inside when the battery failed In the middle of nowhere.

OK, that officially means that this car is like a Ferrari, so someone should buy it.

Today I opened the boot and this happened:-

I could throw the dude in with the deal, but I have placed a trap alive gadget in the boot to nab the critter..

That car is lovely, but as mentioned above I can't afford it as I have 4 lesser vehicles already!

I'm less friendly ... when mice were discovered in the vicinity of my Lancia I put down nasty poison. 3 dead mice were removed when the car saw daylight this week.

It's hard enough keeping my cars on the road before mices eat the bloody wiring.

GLWTS mate, I can't believe this hasn't shifted.

In the past I've found putting peanut butter on the trap has them almost lining up for a trip to mousey heaven.

Anyway, lovely car but with the uncertainty surrounding my current employment I'm watching every penny right now

Tbh, 800 quid for a gold 525i auto with brown fabric seats isn't a bad offer. They're nice cars but are still unloved, especially that spec (colour/trim/auto). See what Ebay brings but you may find a grand is all its money.

My E32 730i is a lovely thing, but it's not worth a carrot. Not for sale either!

TBH i didn't think that was unfair myself. They doesn't seem to be much of a following for them sadly.

I paid a grand for it last March so I think its worth at least that. Being the 12v engine is probably putting a few people up as most want the later 24v. The earlier engine was what appealed to me for this however.
