New Shite- Montego Countryman

Recommended Posts

Back in August I logged on to Facebook one day to find a message from the guy I bought the van from asking if I wanted to buy a Montego Countryman TD with Mot until next February. Despite living in another country now and being on a car buying ban, the obvious thing to do is get your brother and a friend a train ticket to Thurso to pick up the car. So for the grand sum of £550 I got this beauty plus a spare Perkins Prima with 30k on it and a "mountain of spares".  So here she is.

The car has 178k and seems solid enough, a couple of the arches are full of wob and there is now a hole in the sill but underneath has been well undersealed and cavity waxed.

Last time I was home a French guy called Sam was stuck in Inverness in need of a new wheel bearing for his French spec Montego estate so have some bonus French Montego.

There isn't enough Perkins Prima action on here, brilliant work

Marvellous stuff, they're good-looking cars and it's nice to see a slighty scruffy one still working for a living.

Nice to see these. Good effort....wonderful to see our French cousins doing their bit as well

Superb! Love the moody pic on the hairpin bend- is that on the mountain road to Applecross? Looks familiar

That is the absolute spit of the one my dad had new when we moved to France in 1993.  Did it have aircon?

Sweet car chap. You need some wheel trims though...

Theres an old Show on ''Drama'' channel I think ''The last detective'' With Peter Davidson driving a Monty Estate

Cool retro!!!

I used to laugh at these.   Now I want one.    I suppose that is the sign of having become classic.   I happened to see a nice dark green Countryman not long back and thought how nice it looked and how good it would be if the used car lots were still full of them.

Utterly brilliant. We had one as a tow car/general hack/taxi at the car auctions and it went like the clappers.

I remember travelling to secondary school in my father's E plate Orion Ghia and regularly being behind one of these. Normally it had two chimps sat in the backwards boot seats, pulling faces and generally being fecking annoying. Handsome looking cars, even now.

This looks like a great alternative shot to the one at the beginning of antiques roadshow with a Morris carrying a grandfather clock. It's a bit more Shiite-tiques roadshow. Superb buy!!

Someone (with better photoshop skillz than me) please turn that pic into a Montego ad from the late 80s/early 90s!!!

Yes the Applecross pass, I didn't chose the best day weather wise but the pictures make up for it I think.

Thanks for all the Comments, I am enjoying being a 1990s tinker, between this, the Maestro Van and my Ledbury I really feel that I am winning at life.

No aircon, it was the same spec as a Countryman but with the Rover badges and steering wheel on the wrong Side

Me too.

I mean, I miss mine rather than I also miss yours.

I've done that Applecross run in a Lancia HPE and Mk2 Scirocco. I have pics of the HPE somewhere, I'll try dig them out to see if I stopped at the same place as well.
