Is this worth touching? Mazda 3

Recommended Posts

Someone at work has just posted this car up for sale.

2007 1.6 Mazda 3. It is category C write off with damage you can see.

It is only £600 ono

What should i be looking for if I go to view it? Is it theoretically a new set of doors and that would be fine or more too it than that?

I'd expect the b-pillar to have been torn back, looking at that damage. If it's not, then just get one secondhand rear door, have an experimental bash at the dented wing and front door and run as is, if the oily bits are in good health. Front door looks like it's closing straight and sealing okay?

+1 on B-pillar having been moved by that impact, looks like the hinge is damaged/torn out so getting a new door on the back might be interesting*

£300 tops, it'll be a right shit to fix IMHO.

Also, this example is going to do the Mazda reputation for attracting the rust fairy no favours at all.

Cheers Chaps - will give it a swerve. I think in my head I associated it with being a new car cheap.

It might only be £600 to fix but to paint it up alone could be £1500. I'd aim to give no more than you could afford to make back by breaking it up.

Possible b pillar damage, cost of possible airbag work. Unless you are seasoned in this sort of work and can obtain the panels in the same colour I'd avoid it.

8 years old. Honestly, this business with "passing the test in 1992 and thinking K-reg cars were, like, super new" has messed with my head no end.

That's a shit Focus in drag - and didn't Mazdas of that age have severe chassis rust problems, or is that just the 5? You really don't see many of these now.

£650? Have they put a pensioner's mattress stuffed with £450 in the boot to go with it?

Oh no, these rot like a bastard too. More people just bought 6s.

Asking far too much for that.

By the time you have sorted it could have bought a straight one that won't be a Cat C.

Obviously It's a complete write off if the b-pillar is damaged, and that looks mashed - it's a pain in the arse to fix properly with regard to alignment of the doors, etc.

Purchase for £600

Only take pictures of the good side and put on eBay for £1200

Complain bitterly about TYM WAISTERS in your four or five hundred relistings, with ever more irate font

Profit?
