The Autoshite Guide to the Goodwood Revival

Recommended Posts

The Goodwood Revival is a properly proper sort of a classic car meet. If you like fields full of fantastic cars, just turn up and have a major gawp around the car park. You can even watch racing on a big screen and go on the funfair without actually entering the show.

But, you do need appropriate wheels. This is a show that attracts the finest and rarest cars IN THE WORLD. Make a good effort, and dress the part.

Once inside the show, make sure you seek out the best automotive machinery of the 20th century.

Pretend to be at Linwood. (this Cadillac was seriously frilly!)

Take your shoes off and chill out with a Wartburg.

Admire rusty old tractors as they transport Autoshiters.

Ignore the on-track Land Rover parade to take a pic of the one they use to collect rubbish.

All too soon, it's time to head into the field of dreams. Gadzooks! A MkIV Escort!

But I'm saving the best, and most exclusive machine until last. Yes, they like to use classic, old machinery as on-track support vehicles. Including this Daewoo Nubira Fire tender! WOWZ0RZ-GR250,000!

Ok. So some of the posh, fancy stuff is also marvellous. The motorbike races were truly superb, but not nearly as good as the TT Trophy. Here's the start captured on video.

Watching these guys flinging Cobras sidewards through the bends was just magical. And they did it for a full hour! Amazing. Formula 1 does not have a patch on a bunch of old-school V8s, V12s and screaming six pots.

I spent an hour in the car park until I realised that I was only in the car park, I thought it was a show in itself!

Will have to see if any   Found some phone pics that are upload worthy!

Started off with some showman truck shite.

This looked lovely, but take a look at the plethora of stuff around it!

How Abarth versions of 5600s are meant to look - absolutely bat shit crazy! (Cap doffed to Dugong pointing out my mistake)

Always loving an SM. There was some lovely Americana that I didn't have the 1st clue on surrounding it.

I really do need to get to one of these events. I only live 20 odd miles down the road from Goodwood so really don't have any excuses.

That big lilac slab to the right of the SM is a delicious Dodge Polara, mid-sixties I think.  I've enjoyed so many of the pictures from Goodwood of the fancy things it's really nice to see some of the mundane-in-comparison-but-not-really stuff.  Apart from all the MG Bs, ordinary by their sheer profligacy.

I'm shite at taking photos at events, but SWMBO papped a few on her phone.  Here's me next to NUB 120 looking like The Man From Del Monte.

ALL VOXHALLS ARE SHIT, as is the quality of this photo.

For a brief moment I thought that was my old Escort, it's identical to when I last saw it, even down to the grubby paintwork.

This looks like an event for next year's calendar, I'd mistakenly assumed it was a bit of a Grand National For Cars, not for the likes of common me, and it clearly isn't.

It's a 1966 Dodge Polara, not unwell done!

Next to it is a white 1975 Pontiac Bonneville convertible.
