Bentley Turbo R total shite! Now, Brooklands 'R' turbo shite....

It's the very last of the line, ltd edition Brooklands 'R' with turbo! It kicks out the same horse power as the Turbo R but this is the really rare short wheel base one.

All the other Brooklands 'R's are getting on for £20K or more but this is a lot less as it is missing it's handbook, one fob, some of the service history and its new owner a lot of his marbles.

owner missing a lot of his marbles.

They all do that Sir.

Being so upset that someone else could buy a real Bentley I had avoided this thread until now. I new it was going back to the dealer "for looking at" but this has turned out a huge disappointment in many ways tempered by the most professional dealer ever heard of.

The new one looks just as stunning, As you say buying the new one in the time-honoured manner of " looks good, il'l take it" from an ad is a wee risk but wcpgw.

Just enjoy it!

Well done I knew you would have to get another. Once you have had one nothing else compares. It looks good hopefully it will be ok.

That's a short wheelbase?

Not sure whether I should congratulate you or offer you my commiserations tbh... you're entirely mad, but well done for not seeming to care!

Thanks for sorting the picture my dear friend. I am an imbecile....

I was gutted yesterday. I know it's pathetic and sad but I really felt for that poor old car. I hope it gets sorted out properly. I was SERIOUSLY considering buying the new engine that Flying Spares have but SCSW talked me out of it saying: 'it's better to put the extra money into something newer' so I did!

I shall book the new one into SCSW asap for a service and check over (that should be terrifying!) and just enjoy the bloody thing. The dealer is known to the club as a decent guy (one bloke in the club bought a Corniche from him a few years ago and it is still perfect) and he doesn't charge silly money. Series four cars are rare as they only made them 97/98 years and they have a lot of improvements over the earlier cars. Including the TURBO!

It has the same hp and torque as the earlier cars but the late RT cars had a LOT more (400 horses). Apparently, they only made 12 short wheel base Brooklands Rs even though the wiki says 220 odd - that was the LWB cars, they got it the wrong way round!

Just had a good chat with the vendor, he sounds decent (though Londoner so hey....) and the car sounds really nice - not perfect but near enough. One rear door doesn't work on the central locking, one rust bubble at the base of a front wing, but no dents or scrapes and the interior is mint. Stereo works (was rubbish in the Turbo R) perfectly and even the cassette works well - I shall have to buy old cassettes by the truckload!

It's got the leather roof, sports seats, keyless entry/start ( which I didn't know they did back then!) and loads of other bits to go wrong in a tragic and expensive way :) Oh, and it's got a warranty - 12 months, unlimited times, £2000 claim limit. Of course, it will be utterly useless but it's another bit of paper that looks good!

I'm really looking forward to getting it.

Every other car like it is is £20K - the nearest one to it is older (no turbo) and double the mileage and a CAT C! but that ones still 9 or ten grand! Of the car is as nice as he says (and I have no reason to doubt it) then it's a bargain (relative my dear, all things are relative.... ).

Wow, just read this whole thread ( and I'm late now ) and what an inspiring tale, this sort of thing is the very reason I came to this site. I really do wish you good luck with this one and hope one day to be so focussed about following my motoring dream.

What are they going to do with your old one? If they don't want to sink money into repairing it then is it going to be broken?

I can't wait to see what happens when this one grenades!

Xtriple, I reckon you should be driving a Phantom at this trade up rate by Christmas!

Yer Bucking Fonkers mate, but in a good way. Let's hope you manage more than 100 miles in this beast. I think someone needs to make up a sest of 'CAVCRAFT' numberplates and a dealer sticker for the back window :)

...and a dealer sticker for the back window :)

Maybe not.  It was the KISS OF DEATH for the last one!

Oh shit yes! I left the bloody 'Autoshite' sticker on it. Maybe, as you say, better off not on the car...

The old one is being returned to its previous owner. What he will do with it I have no idea. Secondhand motor would be the best bet I would have thought. Such a shame as it was beautiful.

Anyway, onwards and upwards...

Just taxed and insured the new one. What a faff. Old insurance co wouldn't take the new car (why the fuck not? Same, just newer) and one call quoted me another £777.01 extra to insure it! So refund eventually of £100 out of £230 for a couple of weeks use. Got it insured on a classic policy for £227.50.

Tax another £230.

Expensive this swapping cars lark ain't it!

Paid the guy for the car and made a complete fuck up of online banking and threw their entire system into chaos - so if anyone has Barclays online and it's playing up, my fault :)  Got there eventually though...

Ah jeysus, you could have had an Oldsmobile for much less money.

The neighbours will now think you are massively fickle and have totally won the Lotto.

Lovely car and I am sure this one will not cause you any heart or wallet ache. Well not sure about the wallet ache actually.

Glad you've gone for another one! Bentleys look awesome!!

bloody hell fire....

congrats on jumping straight back in, hope that this time the car is a real keeper.

is that chrome grill a factory fitted item on those, as i thought it would have been colour coded?

Hats duly doffed and forelock tugged down here, Mr X-T.   On any other forum you would have run a mile back to the Nissan dealer, asked him to repeatedly shut your nob in a drawer and tuck you up for five years lease on a Puke or something.......Bloody well chuffed for you and hope it works out this time.  Even if not - you can boast of having bought two Bentleys in a month, once upon a time donchaknow....

Wow, to be fair that looks absolutely fab. Please tell me you're going to get a 'private plate' such as OIL 9967889563829 or SAZ 1269087 and drive round a council estate in it.

Flippin' fair play to you!!! Totally inspirational. Life really is too short, if you really want something, go for it.

Chrome (polished stainless) rad shell was an option. Probably bloody expensive but I don't like it! Problem is: being a late car, shell is different to the others so getting a spare is likely to be tricky and horribly expensive. I could get my new best friends to paint it, but that would be sacrilege I feel. I wonder if a wrap would be a good colour match...

You see a few with the polished shell, turbos mainly but I do prefer painted.....

£1900 for a s/h chrome grille shell (no vanes or anything!)!!!!!

£1890 for a new shell in primer!

Oh, and they are chromed according to Flying spares.

Also, should I buy a 'winged 'B' ' for the grille? Only a couple of hundred for a s/h one! Gonna have to find a cheaper place for bits....

So as long as you spend no more than 10 quid on rattle cans the change would be free then?
