Ok, do your worse.

But I'm also hoping for some sensible answers regarding me paying actual cash money for a modern French car with a complex folding roof. WCPGW?

Daughter no3 needs a car and likes the look of these, they're plentiful.insurable ( in 1.6 form) and available from £5/600 upwards.

Both her older sisters had MX5s at this stage in their motoring careers but this will be parked on the street at Uni and she wants 4 seats.

So,any experiences of CCs or just 206s in general.

I know nothing of these, but I seem to remember Breadvan buying one for Mrs_Breadvan last year, and he hasn't mentioned it kerploding (to my knowledge).

They have four seats, but does she want to put actual people in them?

If she's a shortie, then a friends will fit in the back for short journeys, but if she's leggy, then the space* behind her will be more like a padded shelf, only suitable for double amputees.

I don't think there's much up with these and they were actually pretty good cars. It was traditionally driven by pretty hot young girls until it started to get dated and the 500 and Mini came along. In fact, the whole x06 range didn't seem to be too bad. 106 for no frills, 206 as a small hatch and 306 for a bit more space and padding. If you compare it to the current x07 range which is so irritating it makes your piss boil, I thought they did pretty well with the 206.

I can't comment on the folding roof, mind. I guess just keep in mind that it's French, so you take your chances!

The folding roof can give hassle. My neighbour had one, she was told to try an agricultural engineering firm for a cheaper repair to the roofing lift gubbins.

The driving position is awful but apart from rear axle grief they are OK.

Just rushing out to nom 97 Martinis, so will post properly later when drunk.  My opinion of the 206 CC, based on knowledge of two examples of the type in two litre guise, is broadly positive subject to some minor wibbles that I shall relate later in a drunken frenzy.  What's French for foutre le camp?  On y va!

Roofs give trouble plus the usual odd Peugeot gremlin, inc. door hinges made of mouldy bog roll, but they seem a half decent car to be fair.

When I used to live in Wolverhampton I often saw a silver one with a replacement green roof, and some very old K-reg numberplates that looked to be much older than the car (maybe from 1993?), dirty and in pre-2001 font.

Where I work there is a nice coffee shop next door.

At this coffee shop there are 3 female employees who all appear to be under 30.

These 3 ladies all have very nice bottoms and curves in the right places.

I would.

They all drive 206 cc's.

Become involved with said females. You will be driving 206 CC.

Can I semi-hijack the thread to enquire about the estate versions?

Has anyone ever carried a suitcase on that silly fake luggage rack?

I have got an estate and it has been a handy little thing. They are not much bigger than the hatch though so if it is for carting tons of shit about probably not much use. Other than usual peugeotness it is fine with no real problems from the 2.0hdi in 90ps tune they don't have dmf and dpf's to worry about. The 16v petrols can have trouble with head gasket and cam shaft oil seal leaks though. Still far better than any shit Renault produced in the last 15 years

I bought my now ex wife a two litre 206 CC new in 2002..   NB divorce not attributable to car.  She still has the car and it has been trouble free except for when the automatic wiper thingy failed.  Hers has always had an unsolveable exhaust rattle that has defeated everyone who has attempted to solve it.  We travelled  4000 miles around Europe in the car with nary a prob.  You have to pack lightly if you want the roof down.

Last year I bought my current wife a 2001 100,000 mile version of the same car from a burly northern bloke on eBay who had not realised until told by his mates that the car was hairdressy (BTW Mrs BV Mark 3 is in fact the prototype, as we met at university in the 1780s).  It needed a new starter motor.  This one has extras such as chrome rear head rest/ rolly over things (shinaaaaay), boot luggage rack (pointless, never used), and wind diffuser (useless).  Problem free after 15 months.  Has been to Scotland and back and Cornwall and back.  Uses a bit of oil, but not much.   Actually feels better to drive than ex wife's 45,000 miler that sits on its arse a lot while she drives her boring as fook dizzerGolf.

The two litre version is actually quite quick and handles fairly well.  People say that the 1.6 is gutless because the roof is heavy.  The roof has not broken on either car yet.  The car is a bit thrashy and noisy on the motorway, and the ride is a bit harsh at times.   Tall people might bonk their head on the screen when getting in or out.    Leaving the roof release clips down and hitting your head on those is a mistake you only make once,  Ow, ow ow, ow. The standard fit Pug stereos are dire.

I drive the car to release my inner crimper.   I quite like it.

Thanks for responses especially Meggersdog and Breadvan for actually putting their money into testing these for me.

Daughter has now decided they look a bit old fashioned and wants a modern Panda !

We'll see, however the thought of attracting lascivious attention from likes of Lincolndanny and Nibblet is not making me entirely comfortable, so something a little more low profile might be better.

I've already got one daughter in an AS bargain 620, so maybe a 75 or Tf might be acceptable, goes off to see if insurable by 20 year old student.

Thanks! The compact size of the estate is one of the big attractions, as it doesn't take up much more room than the hatch but you can sit at the tailgate and change footwear after a muddy walk. That and the fact that I am able to lie down in the back with the seats down (I found this out in a ropey, mucky, and well-overpriced example at a local dealers').

The 2.0 HDi does seem to be the one to go for.

The HDi 90 is A WINNER.  Mother Rusty bought a 206 new in 2002.  She replaced it last month after 13 years and 100,000 miles.  In that time, the only repairs needed have been the bottom pulley (twice) and the steering column switch.  That's it.  Excellent car.

I don't get the old fashioned looking bit.  The design has aged well, I think.  These cars seem to be still quite numerous and have a mild cult following, although some of the followers are dickwerds who sc3n3 up the cars.   Local cheapo car dealer has one in an attractive blue shade on forecourt.  Not sure how much.

My wife's one has started going clonky bonky - maybe some worn out front suspension bits.  Will check.

Ride a tad harsh anyway cos tyres very low profile and springs a bit stiff.    Leaks a very tiny bit on driver's door side, but not much.  Aircon and heater and demisters work well.

Ok, update time. We've bought one, 2002 1.6 in 3 tone silver. Bought off private lady who's owned it for 3 years and has just had a baby. It's done 112,000 miles with nothing but MOT history to back it up. Bodywork ok , but o/s/r wing and drivers door have are a different shade to boot lid and bumper. It's got leather and working A/C, which is nice and a radio that doesn't work ,which isn't. 10 months ticket and I gave £700 for it,which isn't the bargain of the century but doesn't seem too dear.

Drove 25 miles home and seems OK, ride is a bit crashy, as suggested by Breadbin and it feels bit tippytoey when turning a bend or corner with more than half a turn of lock, I'll check tyres and maybe tracking tomorrow, as expected 20 year old offspring is over the moon, although she can't drive it till insurance is sorted tomorrow.

It's now sitting on my drive between CLK floppy and SLK, looks like a Toni&Guy conference at my house.

Best I can manage tonight, more pics when I'm Vulgalouring it tomorrow.
