Semi-C Posted July 12, 2015 Author Posted July 12, 2015 Well that could've gone worse* When I left you I was preparing to depart, with an expiring phone battery and a petrol cap that wouldn't open, I felt ready for everything. A big screwdriver rectified the petrol cap but no amount of cosmic ordering could muster any electric out of the cigar lighter. Soo, hopefully the Sat Nav battery is longlife??? beko1987 1
Semi-C Posted July 12, 2015 Author Posted July 12, 2015 Oh my boys my boys, forgive me. I have no personal computer, I can only do picture posting on my works pc & thankfully I'm not there today. The inexcusably (even more) dire (than usual) nature of this thread composition can be attributed to my lack of sleep and my abundance of S.S.S* to do. B'air withers, I'll be right back. * S.S.S = Standard Sunday Stuff. mouseflakes 1

Semi-C Posted July 20, 2015 Author Posted July 20, 2015 Aforementioned lack of personal compewtur + Comprehensive factory location swap = No thread rightings. Forgive the prehistoric conditions of my existence, I'm doing the best* I can. I was at the mercy of a rapidly expiring cellphone battery on my trip so my already weak picture game was to be diluted even further. I couldn't resist a snap of this.. It was wider than my fooking thigh! Please Scotland, send these South! The vendor's Ladywife collected me from Edinburgh airport and whisked me away, via The Kelpies, to Dunfermline. Had a good poke and prod (fnarr fnarr...), swapped some wheels over and changed the alternator belt. Who guessed the tape teaser correctly? With no further ado I got hitting the highway home. All was going swimmingly UNTIL..Scotch corner services. Popped in for a piddle and found this. A1 was closed so followed a kind chap on a shortcut towards the A19 (rather than the wild diversion). By now my phone battery had died and the sky had begun to bruise. The headlights that worked at their earlier inspection now refused to do so, cue rolling into a remote but streetlit carpark and praying at a headlight relay. Then hitting headlight relay....hurrah, we now have main beam (sorry to all those I encountered on the rest of my trip, just count yourself lucky that the ancient sealed beams weren't the last word in illumination) The rest of the drive back was fairly trouble free. Apart from a bi-polar temperature gauge and a lack of heater control there was little to accompany me on what turned into a 500 mile tour. I got into bed at 0630 hours on Sunday, charged my cellphone back up and sleeped...until my dad woke me up at 0800 hours... "You'll not sleep tonite if you kip now, I'm doing you a favour" he said. Thank you. Headed outside to finally get a picture of my purchase. Here it is...... Hardly worth the wait eh?? Jim Bergerac, catsinthewelder, stillOrange and 19 others 22

danthecapriman Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 Bloody lovely! Can't beat the mk3. Although I do consider it a tad greedy of you to have both a saloon and estate! I suggest you share, so I'll gladly take one of them home...! Both gorgeous cars though. Semi-C 1

Tis an onepointsix GXL actually, trying to source the correct air cleaner and exhaust manifold for it currently. Bloody love it I do, been after a GXL since before I was an adult. R.E, The number plates: You couldn't be righter! There's one of the original riveted letter plates in the boot, previous owner had misplaced the front one, would like to get a new riveted letter plate to replace it, wouldn't know where to begin such a quest though. trigger 1
cort1977 Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 Looks tidy that. Is it a Kent or had they switched over to the Pinto at that point? Framptons or Tippers both do plates, I'm sure someone with recent experience of them or somewhere better will be along shortly.

Framptons or Tippers both do plates, I'm sure someone with recent experience of them or somewhere better will be along shortly. It's pinto powered originally and being a GXL, it has a GT spec 1600 OHC beneath the bonnet, which means a Mike Oldfield eggsauced manifold and a sticker on the inner wing verifying that you are in the presence of no ordinary (ahem...1.6) pinto. Cheers for the number plate leads, I'll get checking them sharpish.
trigger Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 I used Tippers when i bought the plates for my old Civic, I can't recommend them enough. http://www.tippersvintageplates.co.uk/phdi/p1.nsf/supppages/tippers?opendocument&part=3 HMC and Semi-C 2

I ken what you mean logswise, if they do appear it tends to be in the most obscure retailers. I was oblivious to their existence until I recently patronised an independent dungaree emporium in Guilden Morden, there they were atop a pile of ethically challenged, Gold angora kneelengths. mouseflakes 1
62 Austin Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 I guess it could have been a TR7. Did any get sold there or were they all for export?
