New chod - focus shaped

After moving on the wife's fiesta we travelled the short distance to Formby to pick up this lovely diesel focus.

One owner from new, full history with 117 k on the clock. Most importantly had the clutch, flywheel and timing belt done. Being the ghia it has decent quality upholstery

We gave £1250 for it - not the cheapest for a 2002 car. It does have a few marks on the bodywork and the aircon needs a regas (we hope), however it has MOT until next year and all the tyres are quality makes.

It drives extremely well - lots of poke and it is free of rattles, much better than an escort - it is a better car all round to be fair. Brakes are a bit spongey, new fluid is in order.

Hopefully it will be a good car.post-4771-0-72526000-1432495479_thumb.jpg

Not bad - these Focuses are moving into bargain territory. The fella I bought a bike frame off last week had a 52 plate petrol Ghia hatch on 19k that cost him £1000.

Top bombing! These still look fresh- amazingly so considering the '98 launch, nice bit of design IMO. looks a decent buy. Whats the standard kit on the ghia?

A friend has one of these in hatch form and as you say, they can shift!

I remember how interesting these looked when they were launched.  A genuinely original design and good to drive, too.  I still think they look smart, particularly the estate.

What's even more impressive is the fact Ford managed to make the subsequent Focii increasingly boring and unremarkable in every possible way.  Much like the Escort that went before.

It certainly looks clean in (Pepper?) red, hope it serves you well!

Nice! Good spec and colour with the pricey jobs done.

Fingers crossed it'll serve you well.

Chap I worked for had one of these,  used to drive it round the industrial estate, was a decent drive.

Had one of these with the TDDi engine a  year or so back - only sold it as it was a struggle to get two bikes and the dog into. Nice handling, and still felt reasonably tight for its 180k miles. Heated windscreen FTW! Actually started missing it now...

...My brother bagged an 04 1.4 Focus a few months ago; we did a 300 mile round 'collection trip' ; all the way up to donegal- its done something like 310 tho km , n had service history by ford up to 285km on it; cost him in around €1100; with a months test n a months tax on -it has some rear quarter damage n lets a bitta water into the boot (I peeled back a boot floor bung to drain off the 'as purchased' wheel well swimming pool')... its a really tight car for the miles done; engine very zippy n responsive n has a great 'well spaced' in terms of ratios box - its a 'steel' model with the 5 spokes - which helped as the drivers side caliper was stuck on for a week or so after buying it (armed him with my 'lucky' lump hammer' still I sorted the sticking caliper with new pads.... has nay rust n sills n rear arches are good....it passed its recent NCT bar 'shap edges where the plastic bumper has split on the quarter....

the 1.4's seem in demand here - hes put two tyres on it, n serviced, n I bunged in a few fuel filter (pig of a job) in under it as  the pump seems on its last legs (takes two key turns to start in the morning) but still complies n performes well after that... it literally was a steal/steel n unusually cheap 'quick sale' for here; the fella who was selling it; reading between the lines had gambling debts or something - kept ringing us up on the way up asking if we'd buying it 'whole' that evening, 'no deposit foreplay' etc - we were travelling 150miles to look at the car, so chances were it was coming home with us....

I like the Focus or is it Foci plural? You do have to watch the rear suspension mounts however for rust as all the shit collects in here. Coated mine in Kurust, then zinc primer then shutz then applied a generous coating of Waxoyl everywhere. Possibly overkill I thought afterwards as I made furious attempts to get Waxoyl out of my hair.

I bought an 04 edge model with the 1.8 diesel about 9 months back which was a fantastic little motor and so frugal.. I shouldn't of got rid of it really as it was a really nice one and ran well and had a rear spoiler and looked sporty in black lol

It's just I got it at an amazing price (450) because the lady who's car it was had a new car coming the following day and just wanted shot and had it up for that price in the station car park and it was a matter of being in the right place at the right time.so that's the main reason I bought it really.

I was very impressed with it the only real reason it went was because I bought it for my father and he preferred an auto and didn't like aircon and preferred a sunroof but it handled the bumps and the twisty bits far better than my equivalent Vag chod post-9282-0-50907600-1432538449_thumb.jpg

The only thing with them is they do like to rust so before any comes through check behind the bottom of the doors for any and treat it.

The main culprit is a mastic strip on the bottom of the door skin that traps water..

On mine I cut a bit of the offending item off and put a wire wheel over the area then rust proofed it and gave it a couple of coats of smoothrite to make sure nothing would come through then a smear of old engine oil.

But being that my one was black it was easy to mask up and make an invisible repair before it started coming through.

Also check under the sills for any rot.

I wouldn't mind but the car has been replaced with a petrol 1997 BMW I think the real reason my father didn't like it was it was too modern for him being it was 21st century he should be on this site with us lot really.

I like these, and am currently eyeing up them to replace the Felicia, drove one a while back and liked it a lot

Looks nice and tidy. My mum has an 02 reg 1.6 hatch. Had it from new and it's been a brilliant car. Never broken down and all it's needed was the speed sensor changing and the instrument cluster has been stripped and re soldered again (old solder is shit and degrades away with age then speedo goes mental!) other than that all it's had is one set of brakes, a few sets of tyres and regular servicing. Not bad for 13 years and 130k miles. It's just passed it's mot first try aswell.

I really rate them personally, if I needed a modern to run around in cheaply it'd be one of these, no contest.

Mate of mine has one same colour and spec as the op, just a hatch rather than estate. The door bottoms are starting to go but he keeps making noises about the car 'falling apart' because it sometimes needs routine maintenance. I just know it's gonna get chopped in for something more modern and diesel and can't help but thinking he's better off sticking with it. The looks do nothing for me but as a means of getting about not much touches them

Don't suppose you'd like some roof bars for this?

I've got some Focus ones cluttering the place up. I don't want to throw them out but I don't have a Focus, so naturally the best* option is to mention them every time someone on here says they have a Focus.
