MrDuke Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 Angyl, just stop looking at this thread altogether (assuming you haven't already). You know full well that people are going to be chipping in with well-intentioned stuff that you don't want/need to hear, you've stated all the necessary info in the first post, and if anyone's serious about buying they'll send you a PM. Go and make a pot of brutally strong Lapsang Souchong and scream at next door's kids for a bit. eddyramrod 1

Talbotman Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 Depression is a strange old beast and it effects many people creative such as Angyl. Running and driving and maintaining old unpopular shite by its very nature could be considered by many to be an anarchic 2 finger salute to the world in itself. But it's hard work..mentally trying to keep up on things...maintenance..spares stocks...what will go wrong next etc etc etc. If we were up for an easy life we'd all be driving sherpa coupes feeling seudo self satisfied with ourselves for driving a classic. But we don't....we love Austin Princess's with suspension parts made of rocking horse poo, Shonky old twin turbo Maseratis, a world where a Matra Rancho carries more currency than a Ferrari Gto. But it can be a slog.....in old school terms the world loved vhs....but we'd all love Betamax. Why have a Pc when a Mac was surely much better...but with much less software available in Curry's and Pc world..? We all have different skill levels..and yet we all have our own sets of hopes and aspirations for our motors. With 3 different cars with 3 separate ideals all running at once...I just think Angyl has reached a bit of a crisis..not just in workload but also in the ability to achieve his vision and ideals. I think his last comment was more of one of his own personal frustration rather than a direct criticism from those that have aired their considerations on this thread. I've always enjoyed the trials and tribulations that his threads on his cars have provided and hope that he will continue to do so. Let's give him the time and space to clear his head and perhaps those more local to him could lend an ear or a hand to perhaps help him achieve the ideals he wants to achieve with his cars if he does eventually care to keep at least one of them. theorganist, Slappy, Shep Shepherd and 12 others 15

stripped fred Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 I will just add that as a relative newcomer on here i've enjoyed Vulgalour's posts from day one and I agree that some time to clear one's head and take stock is sometimes the best thing. Although I only have a small amount of cars compared with lots on here and they are all mostly working there is a level of stress associated with keeping on top of them. It's a bit like an addiction, a compulsion, for which there is no cure! I suppose it can get on top of all of us at times what with the other stresses we have in life but I know the people on here are a supportive lot. There's much more of a community feel to this site than any other I have been on, sort of like alcoholics anonymous for car nuts. I would certainly lend a hand to help out if there was anything I could do. eddyramrod 1

Rusty_Pug Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 i say bring one... or both down here because im sure graham would love another car in the garage and the ax needs an old friend to talk to when i'm not there, now im full time she's sat under a car cover and is feeling down right now, she needs the attention, which i believe the 6 can giveif i knew more about other cars other than citroens and peugeots i'd take on the 6 as a second project but would be after the ax is finished of course.
Volksy Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 Some outstanding* understanding of mental illness in this thread. Thanks for a great post Talbotman. I suffer from depression myself, sometimes to the point when a point of stasis and darkness is the only way that one can possibly entertain, or escape, the notion of continuing with even getting on with the simply mundane factors of life, such as eating, leaving the house etc. I do not like 'support' but sometimes a poke in the ribs does bloody work. The Reverend Bluejeans Posted May 16, 2015 Posted May 16, 2015 Apparently this is normal: http://www.bmw.co.uk/en_GB/topics/owners/offers/3-series/saloon/retailoffers.html Yep. five grand deposit, 400 quid a month for the foreseeable future and you still have to pay ten grand at the end of the never ending tunnel to own the fucking thing. I'll leave that right there. Throwing twenties at a tatty Princess is the mark of a genius in comparison. EssDeeWon, forddeliveryboy, Timewaster and 6 others 9
MrDuke Posted May 16, 2015 Posted May 16, 2015 To be fair, it's only £300 a month. Let's not be drawing unfair* comparisons.

Let's not be drawing unfair* comparisons. £300 on a rapidly depreciating asset just so you can end up like 5'876'987 other 320d owners, twenty grand in and looking down the barrel of a very expensive out of warranty repair scenario. 2200HLS please. Split_Pin Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 Who was it on here that once said that "waking yourself up every hour each night and setting fire to £200 must be what it feels like to own a (Citroen) DS" I think owning any older car must be like the above to a greater or lesser extent so I can see how the breaking point is reached from time to time.
