Rear trailing arm bushes, perhaps?  That can make the back end feel a bit wayward and delayed responsey.  Appreciate the potential future efforts with acquiring bits of Concerto!  Please please please don't bin the tiny hubcaps on the Proton, they're ridiculous but also one of the best things ever on them.

I did the passenger side trailing arm bush on the Rover for last MOT, drivers side was an advisory so likely fucked by now

Nice work FOAD. I saw that Proton on Facebook, it looked cool but the seller was one of those fuckwits who does the 'guessing game' business where the asking price is a closely guarded secret. Sounds like you managed to get over that hurdle. 14.6/10

Many Likes for seeing the 220 having some sparkle sticking, and back on A-framing missions. It's a fine steed.

That's the buttery biscuit base Proton with a dealer fit tilt slide sunroof, and no rear wiper or passenger mirror, how utterly miserable, well bought Scott

GLS wasn't base at that time Farty Bumfluff, it was midrange; the GL had even less kit.

Our H-reg 8v 1.3GLS had no nearside mirror either, IIRC it wasn't even an option.

Thats one of those sellers who secretly hopes someone will come in with a massive offer. Never happens and all it does is put a lot of buyers off. When I see "PM me to discuss price" I instantly cant be arsed with it

Andy, it should have side rubbing strips, rear wash wipe, 4 speaker Blaupunkt Verona and twin door mirrors to be a GLS, this is a base with stickers on and a sunroof, even found a snapshot of the brochure. A classic trick of Proton dealers at the time to do this to fool buyers.

Interesting. Seems that my 1.5GL appears to have fallen foul of that...it had a tach, but no rear wash/wipe, power steering and only had a two speaker stereo.

I fail to see how it was "a classic trick of Proton dealers" Martin... if you bothered to check the correct information, only 1.5GL and 1.5GLS Sagas had two door mirrors, 1.3GL and GLS-models made do with one. Likewise rear wash/wipe was 1.5GL/GLS only.

The decals and sunroof were indeed GLS only on UK market models and fitted by the importer, though Scott's rather lovely Japanese Gold 8v 1.3GLS isn't actually missing it's side rubbing strips either as they were 1.5GL/GLS only too.fc7bec95ba6d10380257b670051215ee.jpg4765bb15362e6fe938aab75cfda066f3.jpgdb19c10260d6929bce4fd2c7b3dfddb4.jpg

Only on AS would people be arguing with authority on the spec of a shite 90s hatchback!

Rear wash wipe? Andy I worked for a Proton/Lada dealership as a valeter & PDi operative, and it was my job to 'up spec' cars to make them more saleable, it was common practice to bung stickers and stripes on to lower end variants, even on Saga GL saloons, we'd bung a cheap lip spoiler on, some £10 wheel trims and some stripes, and charge a bit more on top as a 'special' edition. Most of the buyers hadn't a clue what they were buying, as they just wanted 'a car' as cheap as possible, and didn't care about some things, but sunroofs were a very popular option, standard on rival Skodas and most Samaras, which made the dealer a fair whack in profit, sunroofs were charged at about £400 per car, but the unit its self was around £100 trade, with just over an hour to fit by the bodyshop as they'd got it down to a fine art, so a nice profit was made, most sold were lower end models, it was rare to sell a top spec model, as they were firmly in to nearly new Ford Escort & Vauxhall Astra money, and a 1.5 SE cost about the same as a few month old Escort 1.6GL, which was getting very heavy discounts with the impending yawnfest Mk5. Passenger mirrors were standard where I worked too, seeing as their bargain basement rivals fitted them as part of the standard package, it cost the dealer next to nowt for the mirrors, and half an hour's labour to fit, also all Skodas and Samaras had standard rear wash wipe, Proton really were deleting essential equipment, and had frankly bizarre spec levels even between engine sizes of the same trim package. Confused.com? The buyers certainly were

Nice purchase - I saw that on Gumtree (was up at £400) I need to get round to posting pics of the Proton i've just bought. Need a battery tray for one if you know of any, mines rotted due to battery acid.

Certainly some strongly held views on contemporary Proton equipment levels here. There's only one way to get to the bottom of it - let's get all the hardcore Proton lickers in a room and sort this out 'like proper men' etc.

Missing exactly the same bit of trim on the front bumper and a dent in the rear one in exactly the same places as my old one!

Don't suppose there's an old Lancer in that scrapyard? You could procure the relevant parts then Mitsubishi-up the old Proton for no other reason than its probably possible to do so.

Castros_bro bought it from me, think a friend of his was using it for a while but I don’t know what became of it - there were reports of engine issues at one point

Or alternatively simply buy a cheap late 80s Lancer estate and Proton it up using the front end off your Malaysian-mobile.

Oh wow. I think that would be utterly fantastic! Diagonal rear lights FTW.

Find me a cheap lancer estate that isn't at the other end of the country and I'd quite happily do that.
