DodgyBastard Posted June 28, 2022 Author Posted June 28, 2022 Picked up another pile of junk from up in Fort William. dome, Jenson Velcro, RayMK and 14 others 17
RayMK Posted June 28, 2022 Posted June 28, 2022 I bought a brand new CZ175 in Lincoln in 1971 (MFE476J). I loved its forgiving handling, separate oil injection, mechanical simplicity and kickstart/linked gear change and clutch. Later ones reverted to pre-mix. About 10 years later I bought a brand new MZ 250 Supa5. There was no doubt that it was a better quality lump of hardware but its handling was peculiar, always feeling as though it was falling into corners - even after getting rid of the everlasting nylon impregnated tyres for a pair of Avons. I sold it after only 3K miles. My brother also had a new CZ 175 (or was it a 125?) and went on to own various smaller capacity MZs which he used for commuting but could not get his 250 to run reliably. Good luck with your purchase. DodgyBastard and CGSB 1 1

Poweredbyhopealone Posted June 29, 2022 Posted June 29, 2022 I had never heard of CZ before. Thank you for expnding my knowledge and I think you need one of the type 501 scooters next
DodgyBastard Posted July 2, 2022 Author Posted July 2, 2022 Picked up a 2 litre beater for the Chevette from Dome this afternoon! Dirk Diggler, paulplom, Tickman and 8 others 11
DodgyBastard Posted July 2, 2022 Author Posted July 2, 2022 After posting some pics of the cz and mz together on a local classic bike group someone asked if I wanted another for free... No paperwork with it and a seized engine, looks to be similar in design to the cz so might be useful for spares... wuvvum, Split_Pin, Scruffy Bodger and 6 others 9

DodgyBastard Posted July 3, 2022 Author Posted July 3, 2022 A silver 1999 Mondeo has appeared in my yard, MOT October, running and driving. It has the 2.5 V6 with auto gearbox and black leather interior. The painter next to me asked if I wanted it, it belongs to an elderly gentleman who recently bought a Honda Jazz, I think the Mondeo has been in his family since new. I was told that they were open to offers and had been offered £350 from the scrapyard, I said I'd give £400 to save it from the scrapyard but I didn't desperately need or want it. I know fuck all about them to be honest, anyone have experience? Worth buying or run away quickly? Photos not of actual car... Split_Pin, oldcars, AnnoyingPentium and 1 other 4

mk2_craig Posted July 4, 2022 Posted July 4, 2022 Hey that looks similar to the one Mr Bo11ox had a while back, I reckon these are great cars which have gone past the bottom of their depreciation curve now, can’t lose at that price. Bit drinky though.

Split_Pin Posted July 4, 2022 Posted July 4, 2022 That Mondeo looks great, definitely worth saving. I'm surprised a banger racer didn't scoop it up at that price, they are very popular for that as you probably know. You'll definitely be able to shift it on. The shiter who bought my Audi also has one of these and he told me it gets quite a bit of interest wherever he goes.
Split_Pin Posted July 4, 2022 Posted July 4, 2022 I've just looked at the MOT history and it's not that great and it expires in August.
RoverFolkUs Posted July 4, 2022 Posted July 4, 2022 You deal with enough roasters trying to sell normal shite. Can already picture the messages this thing would attract on fb marketplace 😵

I had a V90 years ago which wasn't dissimilar to your V80 in how it performed - went like the clappers off the line (would actually wheelie in first gear) but quickly ran out of puff at higher speeds.

Expect crustiness! looks from history to have been tickled by mig, and a lot of it, last load of advisories were oily bits.... the banger lads use 2l mondys, but wont pay more than 250 for 1, if its a 2l zzetec then the engine is worth 150

Aye but it's the V6, not the 2.5 4 cylinder Duratec favoured by the mk2 Escort scene these days, along with a certain Gordon Murray for his Mk1 Escort and, err, me(for the Manta)
DodgyBastard Posted July 9, 2022 Author Posted July 9, 2022 Scabby old E36 for under £1k? Why not! rob88h, AnnoyingPentium, sdkrc and 10 others 13
Supernaut Posted July 10, 2022 Posted July 10, 2022 I've been led to believe the touring is the worst body style of E36 for rust. That's definitely physical proof of that! Scruffy Bodger and yes oui si 2
DodgyBastard Posted July 10, 2022 Author Posted July 10, 2022 Maiden voyage on the v80 didn't go well, started dying a few miles from home and wouldn't rev past quarter throttle. Discovered exhaust was blocked full of carbon so chopped it open, removed the internals and welded it back together. Seemed to sort it out but was bloody loud so shortened it some more and welded a kdx200 silencer onto it. It runs far better than it should do and managed heady speeds of 45mph. I know 2 stroke expansion pipes are supposed to be designed a specific way but chopping and guessing seems to have done the job. Definitely needs to go up a jet size as it now runs best with the choke engaged. Split_Pin, wuvvum, paulplom and 2 others 5

Already lowered the clip on the needle, throttle response seemed better but still needs choke to run best.
