Another quality vehicle purchased, I paid less for this than the Riva I just sold.

Needs a bit of de-twatting but seems to drive ok.d27bbf82b2f538674751830c98cee293.jpg8be1ea5d6705a12c0c6795c1c2bf8104.jpg6ece021657a798cb3336820c9f6388d9.jpg

After the months of welding on this a little bit more progress was made in regards to fixing all of the other crap that's wrong with it. Today we bolted up the exhaust manifold to downpipe, my Mrs with her much smaller hands did most of the work, if you've ever had the misfortune of working on a Chevette exhaust you'll know of the complete lack of space around the manifold. Other jobs still to do, fit a new radiator, headlights, mirrors, exhaust silencer, bolt the bonnet back on, fit a choke cable and take it back in for an mot...

Are they not Engelmann style?

I think the mounts are different but they're broadly similar.

Bought as a non runner but started after a coupe of kicks, the last owner said it overheated and needs a new piston which it may well d but I managed to get some speeds of above 50 mph before it started to bog/cut out and die. Going to take it apart tomorrow and have a look at it.

Is there any oil in the li'l Kwakasaki? Not smoking at all which is... both odd and rare. Would explain siezures as well.

It's got 32-1 mixed 2 stroke in the petrol tank.

Another old heap collected at the weekend, a 2.0 HDI, I think the rear beam is seized on one side so I'm probably just going to sell it on or try swapping for something else.
It has mot until February, 170k on the clock, drives well enough but is a bit bouncy on the rear on bumps.

The DVLA issued me with a VxxxMAU plate for my 306 when I requested a change from the Northern Irish plate it came on. I thought I might get a local plate and then was a bit disappointed that I got this seemingly random one, but maybe it wasn't random after all.

This car also had an Irish plate on it.

Sold the 306 and bought something much more miserable!
A 1.3 escort estate in poverty spec, windy windows, no power steering, no central locking, no rev counter.
51k and full service history, drives quite well. Steering seems a little bit heavy at any speed and there's some road noise from the tyres.40d6b1c3cb28d108c7a7614b037141c2.jpg85a8a7ae34b4f91b684b9a7430b9b4e6.jpgef520035364700115b78bab0504741d1.jpg

That’s horrendous. Crap spec, off colour, unfashionable as hell, worthless. I want it! 10/10 brilliantly played!!

Is it not oil injection? Adding too much oil can cause lean running and overheating, although I'd be surprised at that ratio.

It was oil injection but I removed the oil tank because the previous owner said it had seized for whatever reason so thought I thought mixing it in the tank would be a safer bet.
I think it's an electrical issues so have ordered new points, condenser and coil.

If the bike has a single oil injection line going to the intake port then running on pre-mix works just fine.

On Suzuki's of the same era this will trash the LHS main bearing because that is lubed separately with it's own line from the oil pump and a second line goes to the intake port  to provide lube to the rest of the engine. The LHS main has a cover plate fitted which effectively blocks it from any lube mixed with the fuel. They will run on pre-mix but the LHS main has a short life and because of the racket produced by an air cooled 2-stroke you won't hear the hearing rumble until it's on the point of collapse.

I'm not familiar with the Kawasaki setup but it's worth checking how many lines go from the oil pump to the engine to make sure that running pre-mix will be safe.

I really like the colour of that Escort. A nice reminder that the '90s were, in hindsight, actually quite weird.
