When you read a lot of car reviews they almost all say how great the car is. You never read an article where someone says how dreadful something is, you could read a test on say a Hyundai Getz, and the praise would be gushing. No one would have it out and say 'this is shit, just utter shit. I can't think of any redeeming features of this car whatsoever'

Except when autocar reviewed the mk.5 Escort. But otherwise yes, they don't want to piss the manufacturers off and not get any future test cars/free holidays. So we just get the usual "represents a move up market for the brand" or "the dash now has soft touch plastics" marketing bingo

A bloke who used to put miles on cars for Ford at Halewood simply drove them to a lock up, put them on axle stands and left them running while he went to the pub.

I used that phrase several times at work yesterday (after looking it up) when talking to customers. They loved it and thought it well worth our £135 p/h labour rate.

Thats not even funny, i once worked at Millbrook as a test driver in the late 90's all i had to do was turn up and drive the thing, write down my thoughts at the end of the shift, job done...... None of this degree in this and that..

So do we blame you for the Corsa C then...?!

When I read the title, I thought it was for a job at EVO...

To my mind, the Peugeot 405 has the finest steering, ride and handling balance of any car, so I'd look into licensing the platform from Iran Khodro. Job done.

This is a real job and whoever gets it will be heavily involved with and responsible for, the driving characteristics of future jags and landrovers. Take the piss out of the ad by all means but this is the modern motor industry at work. You have to be able to drive at a standard I can't even imagine, and not only that, you have to be able to accurately translate a driving experience into inputs into a computer simulation and evaluate the consequences. This is nowt to do with 'dab of oppo' pistonheads track day twats. Anyone who can do this job, I will cheerfully buy them a pint or ten
