Hmmmm autoshite drag racing??? carry on....

An auto cross course would be the most realistic idea because that wouldn't take up too much space and could be taped off so would be the safest option for bystanders. People do walk dogs over it sometimes so I don't think I could make drag racing fly with the owners.

South... Scotland. Is that... in... Scotland? I'm not sure we'd be able to do that, that's less than a tank of pez in a Volvo.

dumfries or newton stewart is doon hill fae yers so :D

My second point of persuasion: Quaint aircraft museum, we might be able to use the old runway too... Autoshite autocross?

Do you think they would let us camp? It looks like just the sort of location we need.

There are some fields around it but I don't know if they are owned by the museum or the same person that owns the runway (or if they are two in the same) but obviously I would look into that if it were to be a serious option. I know someone who owns a fair bit of land about half an hour away that I could ask too, he owns the land that the old WWII munitions factory is in too which may be of interest? Not a full fays worth of exploring to be done there though and he might be anxious again with regards to safety (they are derelict and haven't been maintained for 70 odd years mind).

Another point of interest might be MD's breakers yard just over the border in Carlisle (just under an hour from Dumfries), it's quite big and they tend to keep some of the interesting older stuff for a while. Oh and there's Volvo's to pillage.

Would they be up for a shitefest scrapheap challenge?

I do like the idea of a Southern Scotland meet, though I have little interest in old planes. Also I reckon many folk will be wary of joining a rallycross type event, because hooning an ageing road car over unpaved surfaces will very quickly make things break, and most of us will be a long way from home.

I do like old planes, although those cold war jets are a bit newer than my usual preference (tail-draggers).

Agree about the rallycross though, I'd not want to hoon about too much in something that has to get me back home...

Yeah that's true, just a suggestion though.

Keeping the railway theme from this year would there be much interest for driving down tiny back roads into the middle of nowhere to see a giant old bridge?

I would be willing to help to organise a southwest shitefest but equally wouldnt mind a treck up to scotland either. For me the roadtrip part of the event really (less easy to say when the m way is gridlocked like on friday)

I passed MIRA on my M1 avoiding trek up to SF in the ailing granny. Now that would be a great (and obviously never going to happen) venue. You want a test track? have THAT.

Back roads and viaducts, what's not to like? It sounds as if you are talking yourself into organising SF16. I'd be happy to help in any way I can and I'm sure the organisers of previous Shitefests will offer advice.

Andy, why is Mr Fowler doing the work on your car? Also can you please ask him to cover up his legs.

Sloth's post about the roadtrip being part of the adventure reminds me that I haven't really had to drive far to a Shitefest since 2013 (when the Discovery spectacularly failed 3 miles from home). Why should the SVM have all the 'convoy to event' fun? We could prove that non-Volvos are just as capable. Perhaps.

The big thing for me was the driving. For far too long ive only really driven to work and back in a penny pinching kind of way. To drive and not give a fuck about the fuel was a big plus.

Possibly why i was so annoyed about the puncture, it did ruin a lovely drive. The convoy around the lake was stunning though
