My GS Update

The GS was a blind ebay bid in 2007 and sold again a year latter because I could see it needed a lot of work. I watched it be sold a couple of times and in 2013 I bought it back, off the road with a major Hydraulic leak and poor bodywork. I put it back on the road 2014 and 2015 won "Shed Of the Show" with it. Now it is undergoing major bodywork as we speak!

Smart looking photo is 2007, tester pot paint on the doors is how I bought it back and ran it, stripped is how it is today but the work is continuing.

Is it going to be Brun Scarabee (AC427) again? I had a CX familiale on a S plate in that colour and thought it suited the car very well. MrsDS wasn't so keen though.

Hey, I think I used to own that GS!  I bought it off ebay (or one very much like it) from a chap in Hertfordshire I think who lived just around the corner from a Classic Citroen garage (Chevronics??)

However, the Fuhrer said it had to go and just as it was being sold, a tile fell from the roof onto the bonnet ...  which makes me think that the car in the first photo is the same vehicle.  :-)

I'm really glad that it is getting the love and attention it needs

When I bought it in 2007 is was painted Brum Scarabee but it is going to go back to its original colour AC436 Brun Cigale, which is a bit lighter. The bulkhead is still Cigale and the colour code disk says AC436.

Ok, fair enough.

Yes a roof tile fell on the bonnet while it was listed on ebay in 2007 and Mrs Cyl still calls him Gimsby today!

Can you help me with the history? I bought it from you in January 2007 how long had you had it, do you know when and who changed the engine to 1299c or replaced the doors with GSA ones and painted it?

These photos are from your 2007 ad.

Great to see those photos again  -  my hard drive packed in a couple of years ago taking loads of my pics with it.

I was living in Hull when I bought it from ebay  -  the old story, came home from the pub, put a bid on and next morning I had won it... I didn't have it long, probably less than a year during which time I did nothing other than drive it.   I didn't even know it had had the engine changed!  I'm pretty sure that the chap who had it before me had had some work done at Chevronics or another specialist near to him (Letchworth possibly?)  -  I recall that there was quite a bundle of paperwork with it.

Good luck with the restoration. If you decide to move it on, can I have first dibs?!?

So all these pics of a GS gave me a bad case of Citroënvy.

And now I have registered a website because of it - citroenvy.co.uk/com/uk - which when I get around to it, should feature people's enviable Citroëns :D

Here you are then, to make the case worse. Remember though, this is an old pic and car is a bit of shed these days and nothing to be envious about.

It's GSA-specific envy, because my little estate one rotted out too fast to save, and I really wanted it to go back on the road. Love GSA dashboard madness and the crazy space of the estate.

Oh, I'd like a proper GS, but I never had one. I've come closer to buying a GZ than I have a GS.

Is that an X2 with those hudcaps and black bumpers?

Posted

It is.

I owned a 1978 X2 in 1985 that I bought from my father, he had had it since it was 18 months old and less than 10,000. I bought it because I had been made redundant and could not afford to run my 2.8 Granada so the GS was a cheaper alternative. When I got a new job it came with a company car so I did not need the GS X2 and sold it, what a mistake I wish I had keep it and still had it today. I have looked in the past and considered buying another X2.

The photo is the only shot I have of my old car.

Fame for my Vitesse, it went out for a days photo shoot but I did not who for as I handed it over to a film car agency. Now I know it was for the a womans clothing company Long Tall Sally, but the only picture I can find on their web site has some woman getting in the way!

My E36 328i is home at last.

I bought my 328i sport in July 2011. It drove nicely and made a good road car so I started to inspect it for turning into a track car. I found it had had damage to the driver’s side and probably had a new side panel but it was rusty under the driver’s seat in a long strip and a plate had been glued and undersealed over it. I was quoted quite a lot to sort it out properly and the car sat around under threat of being broken for parts. In the end I wanted to drive it again so commissioned the work, it took a long take in exchange for a reduced bill but finally I got it back on the road.

Only a few months passed before the head gasket blew! The first garage I asked did not want to tackle it because they had heard these engines can pull head studs out of the block. In the end I found a garage who would tackle it, then the partner who had taken it on left and the car was sent to a third party who snapped a head bolt! After a long delay, a donor car was purchased and the engine put in my car by the other partner of the 2nd garage. He has worked hard to get this back on the road for me and even driven it 300 miles to make sure it runs properly and does not overheat.

I need a couple of tyres for my CLS style wheels, so I have the wheels from the donor car on it at the moment and the heater is stuck on hot.

Well done on persevereing with the old girl! Is the track day car still part of a plan? Also how is the ex-mr livered Merc 200te doing these days? I can just about spy it on the opposite side with the XC70.

BMW 328i E36, still in the back of my mind is low key run what you brung style track day but I need to settle it down first.

Mercedes 200TE, in regular use and running very nicely last used Friday and 19,500 miles since May 2014 when we we kindly given it. Sorry to disappoint anybody who was hoping it was to become a Autoshite bike but I have thought about buying a six cylinder W124 for more performance for the same fuel burn but doubt I would get such a tight all together car as this one, so for the foreseeable it stays.

Volvo XC, fully running order and out with Mrs Cyl today in spite of my protests I have just had it cleaned! I think the oil leak is finally sorted out. After it showing me every warning light it had just before Christmas and buying a reset tool they are all out now and have been for a while.

Changed engine because snapped head bolt?

Yes this 6 cylinder BMW engine has a reputation for pulling their steal head studs from the alloy block and therefore trying to replace a head stud is unlikely to work so the cheapest solution is an engine swap.

I took my E reg Visa 17RD to my favourite garage today to have it MOTed and the cam belt changed.

From the same garage I collected my 500SEC from having a misfire sorted, after 10 miles pulling out of a junction it would sometimes hesitate badly. It turned out to be distributor caps but not until they had done plugs and leads. I had an MOT done as well and it felt great to drive so I celebrated by filling the fuel tank at 99.9 p per litre!
