Six-cylinder Posted September 30, 2016 Author Posted September 30, 2016 Mrs 6C is volunteering to help with more apple days this weekend and needed the C15 van, but the exhaust is broken and is not due to be fixed until Tuesday. I have got out from storage our Volvo 740GLE Auto. It has been away all summer and started easily with the jump pack, so a quick charge and it is ready for action! HMC Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 Great! Forgot about this 740; I thought it was a saloon ( perhaps confusing it with one you own that's a none starter, beached on a relative's drive in Wales I seem to remember?)

Largactil Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 That does not sound metric to me. Where are you, how much do you want? please PM me. Sorry 6C - Meant to reply, but naffed off for a long weekend in that there London - I'm just outside of Dublin... But I was kind of hoping to use them on my LNA, if I can't lay my hands on a reasonably priced set of Amils. That said, if they are the final piece of the puzzle and unavailable elsewhere, I'd rather see them reunited with the GT, so give me a shout if that becomes the case. Six-cylinder 1
Six-cylinder Posted October 3, 2016 Author Posted October 3, 2016 I have a Mechanic coming to look at the Visa GT tomorrow and I hope to know more after that. I now have a radiator for my LNA which I hope will be fitted tomorrow and maybe the car can be driven in our field! Largactil, HMC and holbeck 3
Six-cylinder Posted October 4, 2016 Author Posted October 4, 2016 The day did not go quite to plan C15 Exhaust fitted – check LNA radiator fitted – X Visa GT check over – X This was because my mechanic had to go off to rescue a lady in distress. We are going to try again in the morning. I did collect my Visa Twin pot with a fresh MOT today though. I have also been told my 1984 MG Metro needs a new air valve, can anybody help by giving it its correct name so I can search for the part?
MarvinsMom Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 its an anti-run on valve. only the MG's got them, and no, i don't know what one does exactly either...... the part number seems to be MAV10021 though it seems that no has one in stock. holbeck 1
C1am Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 Anti run-on valve (if that helps). Edit: beaten to it!
C1am Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 Stops the engine running on after ignition is turned off by drawing air into somewhere (the engine?)
MarvinsMom Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 it looks like its plumbed into the vacuum system, since it is on a spur off of the brake servo. so i guess it pulls air into the manifold and closes the needle inside the carb?
M'coli Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 It just draws in fresh air. The MG engine as C1am says would run-on after the ignition was switched off, and this valve allows fresh air to get into the engine rather than fuel mixture. It pissed me off on my MG- I've never had an A-series Metro that wouldn't start on the first TDC except for the MG.
Noel Tidybeard Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 same valve is fitted to mk2 escrote my mate has got try it without see if its actually needed? prolly something to do with the mg metroid having a lumpy cam
Mr_Bo11ox Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 Yeah it's not gonna stop the engine from running spot-on, just ignore it or remove it.
Six-cylinder Posted October 5, 2016 Author Posted October 5, 2016 Thanks, at least I now know what I was shown yesterday does. The garage tell me the car ran rough until they blocked off the pipe to the valve, I think the answer is to try it like that before I spend money on a new valve. MarvinsMom 1
Six-cylinder Posted October 5, 2016 Author Posted October 5, 2016 A little more progress with the LNA today but after a couple of hours my Mech announced he had to go to another customer - Outrageous! The radiator is now fitted along with new top and bottom hoses and others hoses reconnected and water/antifreeze does not fall out! We had to borrow the radiator fan switch from the Visa GT as I did not have one. It turns out the electric fan that came with the car is not the original and is too big to fit. I also missing the housing on top of the carburettor that connected to the pipe from the air filter. I am so disappointed he ran out of time because there was nothing stopping us driving the LNA around the field. The Visa GT has been checked this morning and the engine is not locked so next week we will try and start it. Another friend had a look under it and is going to try and persuade a friend of his who is an amazing welder to save it, in spite of saying he never works on cars we know if all the planets align...... Six-cylinder Posted October 12, 2016 Author Posted October 12, 2016 I felt a bit bad about releasing the Rover 114 GSi back into the wild before it was fully healed, but I have been reassured it has a bright future. Coprolalia, RobT and M'coli 3

Six-cylinder Posted October 12, 2016 Author Posted October 12, 2016 Whatabout 2cv roof? Am free Sunday. I have not ordered it because I thought I would garage it over the winter and get a new roof when it comes out in the spring. Now I have lost its storage I don't know where I am.
Six-cylinder Posted October 17, 2016 Author Posted October 17, 2016 It has been quiet on the car front for the last couple of weeks first I was away then I was not feeling well and two of the garages I use also have illness. The Alfa 156 V6 Sportswagon Veloce (I want to write Veloce because I like saying it) we bought from breadvan 15 months ago started life gently with limited use. However as it warmed up this summer Mrs6C found it had ice cold aircon and started commuting with it 80 miles a day, I thought that would not last long and end in exploding 156, I have been wrong after 6000 miles it has been good, but a weeping radiator started to annoy so has been replaced last week. The car has also had a pair of Conti front tyres, first we have fitted, I wonder how long they will last with 190 bhp though the front wheels. For those without long memories I only paid £350 for the Alfa but took a pretty stiff bill for sorting out the gear change and some other things when I first got it. Now I can say I am fully satisfied with my purchase and the car is a delight to drive. RobT, Coprolalia, richardmorris and 4 others 7

Six-cylinder Posted October 19, 2016 Author Posted October 19, 2016 I had it washed and vacuumed today, what a transformation. It even inspired me to take a couple of pictures. Sudsprint, Coprolalia, richardmorris and 6 others 9
purplebargeken Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 156 Sportwagons are teh sex! Six-cylinder 1
Burnside Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 Looking great and fair play for getting some decent tyres on it. The Alfa 156 is such a great styled car for it's time that has aged well , they are on my to do list of cars to buy just sadly not at moment!
purplebargeken Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 So what was the gear change issue in the end?
