I am trying to put several cars back on the road at the moment including the Saab 95, Opel Manta, Range Rover Classic and Peugeot 404 so it is a bit down the todo list as the car functions just great as it is. If anybody feels the need and wants to lead the job then it could move up the list. richardmorris 1

AnthonyG Posted April 18, 2023 Posted April 18, 2023 Re the 404, has it got French language instruments? - when I was sitting in it in November doing my best French cabbie impressions I have a funny feeling it had ‘huile’, ‘essence’ written etc on the little gauges. Or maybe I just dreamed this🤔? If it has French language instruments it’s likely a French market car that made its way to the US somehow. Original US market cars would have had English on the instruments.

Then it could started life in France and been exported as a young car. AnthonyG and mat_the_cat 2
AnthonyG Posted April 18, 2023 Posted April 18, 2023 I strongly suspect the car was first sold in France and then made its way to North America as a personal import (presumably before emissions regs etc made doing that really hard). I very much doubt Peugeot went to the trouble of fitting a French language instrument pack to the cars destined for dealers in Quebec! Six-cylinder and LightBulbFun 2
Fumbler Posted April 18, 2023 Posted April 18, 2023 What year is the car again? Canada didn't go metric until 1975.

I am wondering, do we know for sure the car was ever in the US at all, whats our possible proof/evidence for that ? we know it previously came from the Netherlands, we have concrete proof that through its documents/and its dutch age related plate DM-11-31 and its dutch "DVLA" vehicle record which tell us it was imported into the Netherlands 1996, but I have to wonder if it was just imported from France into the Netherlands directly? as a side note @Six-cylinder while quickly researching the matter again, I came across this video of the car from a few years ago, forgive me if its something you have seen before already, and it aint much but thought id share it still Six-cylinder and Mrs6C 1 1

Six-cylinder Posted April 19, 2023 Author Posted April 19, 2023 The start of the Manta’s journey to a working car! This morning I had the Manta collected and taken to my favourite garage who are going to do the welding and make it road worthy. One hiccup is I told my garage it started and drove just fine, this morning it would not start. Having it delivered non-running I am keeping a low profile because I don’t like bad language! Very like the Cavalier then! It would be running absolutely perfect one minute, then you'd switch it off and sixty seconds later would have absolutely zero spark. Take the cap off, poke the points a couple of times and it would be back as though nothing had happened every time. Can't remember if I ever got as far as actually changing them now.
Bear Posted April 20, 2023 Posted April 20, 2023 That was a knackered coil on one of my CXs. Drove me nuts until I replaced it in desperation.

Six-cylinder Posted April 20, 2023 Author Posted April 20, 2023 MK Modern Classics gathering tonight. A bit of a damp night with 20 cars, shame as the pub had laid on extra catering expecting more. I gave the BX a run out. brownnova, AnnoyingPentium, mat_the_cat and 4 others 7

Six-cylinder Posted April 22, 2023 Author Posted April 22, 2023 My favorite garage asked if I wanted to buy an old tatty trailer from another customer. 14 foot long deck enclosed with a low roof that had been used to store a MGB. I was told it worked ok but was a bit custy. It did not excite me very much, but I made an offer anyway. A couple of weeks later I was told my offer was accepted and today I collected it. It is spot on Autoshite/Six-cylinder condition! The Moog, brownnova, chaseracer and 7 others 10

Oh Awesome I bet that will come in very handy! espically one you have it hooked up to the Bedford CF and then you can start bringing them home in pairs! its even got a centre section! dont think I need to elaborate on the importance of that!
