Talbot Posted June 15, 2018 Posted June 15, 2018 My Saab has just started to slip its clutch under high boast. Does it go on and on and on about it's safety credentials and how the engineers that designed it also design aircraft? Mrs6C 1
Six-cylinder Posted June 15, 2018 Author Posted June 15, 2018 Does it go on and on and on about it's safety credentials and how the engineers that designed it also design aircraft? No but it has a button that switches off all instruments and panel lights except speedo! egg 1
Six-cylinder Posted June 15, 2018 Author Posted June 15, 2018 Hot off the press. On Monday I found the clutch had started to slip on the Saab, not badly, but high boast in high gear produced the rev counter to flip up before it settled down again. The bad news was I had somebody interested in buying it, I declared the fault and he was still interested so came to see it today. With an adjustment of the price he had just taken it and came equipped with a trailer, not that it needed it to drive to Croydon. Mrs6C, Sigmund Fraud and egg 3
Guest Hooli Posted June 15, 2018 Posted June 15, 2018 No but it has a button that switches off all instruments and panel lights except speedo! If you hold it for a few secs it also turns off the interior sensors for the alarm. At least I think that's what mine does.
phil_lihp Posted June 15, 2018 Posted June 15, 2018 Due to depart for the FoD in the next couple of hours, fingers crossed the weather behaves for the next couple of days. Six-cylinder 1

phil_lihp Posted June 15, 2018 Posted June 15, 2018 Not sure at the moment, probably a bit late - I'd guess around 9PM so don't worry about waiting for me if that's a bit on the late side! I'll drop an update to you when I'm halfway-ish.

beko1987 Posted June 15, 2018 Posted June 15, 2018 Wish I was here tomorrow! Instead I get to run a 6 year olds birthday party... Beer is in the fridge for afterwards...
mat_the_cat Posted June 16, 2018 Posted June 16, 2018 We're a few hours away! See you all shortly. Six-cylinder 1
richardmorris Posted June 16, 2018 Posted June 16, 2018 well, just back home after hours of fun, bodging and hitting lots of things with various sized hammers. We cut grass, got an oltcit moving, fixed* the gate, washed a range-rover, started the jcb and exploded a Peugeot scooter. All while the lord of the manor supervised. Very nice to meet old and new friends. Have fun tomorrow those who are going. And don’t break the gate - lots of brute force and ignorance went into it! chaseracer, Mrs6C, CGSB and 3 others 6
richardmorris Posted June 16, 2018 Posted June 16, 2018 Oh and I seem to have pulled a muscle in my shoulder driving the mower- the understeer is lethal. However I am now experimenting to see if alcohol numbs the pain. HillmanImp, phil_lihp, The Moog and 4 others 7
Six-cylinder Posted June 16, 2018 Author Posted June 16, 2018 Thanks, well done, fantastic Day guys. Mrs6C, RobT, Skizzer and 7 others 10

Six-cylinder Posted June 17, 2018 Author Posted June 17, 2018 More interesting stuff today Happy camper vans A game of stack the the water containers, the handicap being a novice driver in a worn out machine with slop everywhere and no brakes! Hayter Condor mower was successfully stripped to get at the failed cylinder bearing after working out some bold were not welded just stuck. The Herald Coupe was half washed, with more games of collect 25 LTR water on a moped! A first attempt to get the Herald Coupe running was not successfully as it won't even spin over on the starter with the plugs out. We did not have a spanner to fit the front pulley so pushed it in gear, worryingly a we only get a small amount of rotation on the front pulley then lock up. One member with fours legs and a tail left her ball behind! richardmorris, worldofceri, Mrs6C and 5 others 8

It’s like daycare for men who should know better. I enjoyed the day ( and previous visits ) as I always learn something. Is the ad for the black RR live yet? Six-cylinder Posted June 17, 2018 Author Posted June 17, 2018 Is the ad for the black RR live yet? Not even written, but if you or anybody else are interested it is ready to go and we even checked it rolled freely today.
Dick Cheeseburger Posted June 17, 2018 Posted June 17, 2018 Looks like fun was had. Those Herald coops are bonny looking things, too. Any updates on the Spit 6? I always wonder who’s who when I see these photos. CGSB 1

richardmorris Posted June 17, 2018 Posted June 17, 2018 I believe starting from 10 O clock going clockwise we have Phil_lip, chaseracer, (as a process of elimination, as he's the only one pictured I've not met!) quicksilver, slowsilver, and the back of richardmorris' head.Oh your name came up too! chaseracer Posted June 17, 2018 Posted June 17, 2018 ...chaseracer, (as a process of elimination, as he's the only one pictured I've not met!) Hello! CGSB 1
phil_lihp Posted June 17, 2018 Posted June 17, 2018 I got home a couple of hours ago, what a brilliant weekend. Thanks very much to Mr & Mrs SixCylinder for their hospitality, a better campsite I could not have asked for. Excellent company throughout the weekend, nice to meet another fine batch of shiters. Also a pleasant evening spent with mat_the_cat, mrs_the_cat and dog_the_cat for the second night's camping. I've learnt a lot this weekend and had a lot of fun too. Some highlights of this weekend's achievements were, in no particular order: - removed the petrol tank from the yellow Visa shell- assisted in gently, delicately unseizing the toasted Olcit onboard brake calipers with a varied assortment of hammers and chisels- was a small part of the highly successful gatepost repair team (chaseracer and richardmorris, please step forwards) who's work will no doubt be talked about for years to come- took part in the 'how many shiters does it take to get a Peugeot moped running' committee. - learnt to drive a JCB with no brakes, wayward steering and, perhaps, just a little bit of play in some of the major joints and pivots- used said JCB to play water container tetris with slowsilver and quicksilver, made extra entertaining by the uneven ground and lack of brakes- bringing some vestige of life to the relocated Herald - we did confirm it has most of its lights working, the horn goes 'tick' and it makes the battery terminals smoke when the starter is engaged, so it's more or less working as Lucas intended.- washed half the Herald - Detailing World post to follow, I did indeed use two buckets, both of which contained green slime There was plenty more, plus a lot of tea and biscuit consumption. All in all, you couldn't ask for a better time really. "Daycare for grown men" is about right, I was a bit concerned that there were no responsible adults around to supervise but nothing got too out of hand. The Hiace decided to break with character and become a tad troublesome due to a sticking starter motor, although I now suspect a subtle sabotage attempt by sixcylinder to keep me from leaving before the Herald was fully washed, seeing as the moment I left the field for the drive home, it proceeded to behave perfectly for the entire trip home. I will be back, and next time I will bring a bigger scrubbing brush. egg, chaseracer, CGSB and 5 others 8
phil_lihp Posted June 17, 2018 Posted June 17, 2018 Ah the beast I bought from Phil The sump plug was tightened by the hand of god himself and I had to get the trolley jack on the handle of a 3 ft breaker bar to shift it Phil had though he couldn't get it undone with his ratchet due to a shoulder injury.... if he DID get it undone he probably would have had the strength in the other arm to hold the car up while working underneath it ETA: the handle had about 30 degrees of bend in it before it finally shifted the plug too. Must have been done up with a windy gun And yet the oil filter unscrewed easily by hand...I do miss that car.
