Six-cylinder Posted February 5, 2017 Author Posted February 5, 2017 Would you find one if these offensive? Would need to carefully paint the bezel black: http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/motorsport/gauges-auxiliary/smiths-flight-electrical-water-temperature-gauge But it should work well with a modern sender. It looks good on its own, but not for one out of a set of four.

Six-cylinder Posted February 9, 2017 Author Posted February 9, 2017 It looks tidy, what's up with it? Head gasket and it is engine out on those.
quicksilver Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 There's some strange forces at work here - you bought a Kettle-series MG and now you're reporting OMGHGF but on a Citroen?! That's the ex Hairnet car isn't it? Who owns it now? I've lost track.

That's the ex Hairnet car isn't it? Who owns it now? I've lost track. It is the ex Hairnet car, I bought it from JohnK who did not have time to fix it. I trailered it down from Middlesborough yesterday. Its future is uncertain because I don't think it is economical to have the work done, but it would be very useful and cost effective if I broke it for spares. My MG ZR has no head-gasket problems at all, now this is asking for it!
Split_Pin Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 I presume this is the case with all PSA suitcase engines?
JohnK Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 Hope you had an uneventful journey back Chris and apologies again that I couldn't be there. Would be a shame if it gets broken but equally at least it would be getting some use as opposed to sat on my drive on the list of projects needing work. Six-cylinder 1

Six-cylinder Posted February 9, 2017 Author Posted February 9, 2017 Where is the real 6-cylinder? The limit has been reached! Under restoration/major works now – 1985 Range Rover 1971 BMW 3.0S MG Metro Mk1 Peugeot 504 cab Citroen LNA Citroen Visa GT Already on the list Alfa Giulietta Daimler Sovereign, poss 2! Then there is the bit of work list...... And the maintenance/MOT List.....

Would be a shame if it gets broken but equally at least it would be getting some use as opposed to sat on my drive on the list of projects needing work. Now I can tell you the rest of the Visa collection story, 400 miles towing all very straight forward. Unloading perfect. Then it all went wrong! I did not have the energy to disconnect the trailer from the car, turn it by hand and reconnect it to leave the yard, so decided to charge across the grass field and straight out of the gate. Foot down hard only 200 feet of grass and I made it but the last 20ft! It is now dark the Xantia is just digging itself a hole. Usual stuff builders bag under the wheels and it was just going deeper. I did not have keys to the tool shed so could not dig a way out or keys to any of the equipment such as the Digger! There is a fully working and legal car but again I did not have the keys, enough phone a friend for a lift home. Today I went to recover it on my own as nobody was free to help, the plan was to just give it a pull with my Range Rover. That fell at the first hurdle as the tow eye is screw in and the access panel is wedged into the mud. Luckily I remembered Xantias will get up in the air if asked, next where is the eye noware to be seen so I guess under the car in the spare wheel over the pool of water and mud, non problem I will just use the Rover 75 one that is easy to get too, no just luck wrong thread! Anyway it went on for a while but in the end I did connect it the Range Rover that was on hard standing. Barely off idle and the stuck Xantia complete with trailer came out of the field, the Xantia needs a wash now! strangeangel, Largactil, worldofceri and 4 others 7
Mr_Bo11ox Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 That's a shame about hairnets visa. It's the sort of thing I find myself taking pity on. I guess though that with all your other Visas and LNA's you can probably recycle almost all of it single handedly right? Six-cylinder 1
Six-cylinder Posted February 10, 2017 Author Posted February 10, 2017 I guess though that with all your other Visas and LNA's you can probably recycle almost all of it single handedly right? This is the plan, the GT needs some floors panels that are just not available elsewhere.
Supernaut Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 A Xantia getting stuck in your field? That sounds oddly familiar for some reason... Six-cylinder, wuvvum and beko1987 3

Six-cylinder Posted February 10, 2017 Author Posted February 10, 2017 Great news today my Yellow Peril the MG ZR has passed its MOT with no advisories, now MOTed until 4th March 2018. It needed a number plate, 3 bulbs and a CV boot. I have also had it serviced. The garage owner collected me in it for the 5 miles to his workshop so I could take it home and it petered to a halt on the road side, neg battery lead had fallen off! In spite of the breakdown he went on to say it was in excellent condition and as I know, drives very well. tapir, worldofceri, HMC and 5 others 8
hairnet Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 dont bring it to cannock the locals will think it an auction item
Six-cylinder Posted February 16, 2017 Author Posted February 16, 2017 A little car progress today, my friend Ian came over and we stripped the seats, carpets and other trim out of the Visa GT to properly inspect the rust damage. A lot of work, but no more than I was expecting. The next stage is to get it booked with the guy Ian has coerced into welding it for me. Having finished our floor inspection Ian asked me if the GT had been started in my ownership, I told him it was fine because I had checked and the engine is not locked. There was a glint in his eye I would have thought was reserved for his lovely wife and young family, but no his heart lay with getting the Visa started! The only battery I had on site was the LNA so we connected it and the engine spun over but did not fire. We poured a small amount of petrol down each carburetor and it ran, we guessed the fuel was not being drawn from the tank, but a check revealed it was. The conclusion was the fuel is several years old and needs draining, now Ian has booked a day off work tomorrow to get the GT running! worldofceri, Skizzer, Largactil and 3 others 6
richardmorris Posted February 16, 2017 Posted February 16, 2017 ^I think he's just a glutton for punishment. But it takes all sorts as they say
Six-cylinder Posted February 17, 2017 Author Posted February 17, 2017 We returned to The Visa GT today and found the tank 1/2 full of completely stale fuel/crud but did not have time to drop the tank. So cleaned out the fuel line by pumping fresh fuel though with pick up in a can, then drained the carbs and pumped fresh fuel though. It now starts and runs but sometimes won’t rev and cuts out. I think the carbs need removing and cleaning properly. Unfortunately the exhaust fell off once we got the car running! Pushing the car back to its parking space the conversation went something like this: Chris what have we run into? Nothing Ian you have just turned the wheel the wrong way. No I have not, come and look at my wheel. O-dear! Bucketeer, worldofceri and richardmorris 3
Six-cylinder Posted February 18, 2017 Author Posted February 18, 2017 In other Visa news 17RD has a new MOT and serviced. It was collected today, then driven around Milton Keynes like an ordinary car! HMC, Skizzer, worldofceri and 2 others 5
Six-cylinder Posted February 21, 2017 Author Posted February 21, 2017 As is quite usual my working day had been punctuated by car stuff today. I helped my friend refit the last door on our Bi-Turbo this morning. The Auto electrician came at lunch time to sort the wipers on the Sovereign, he had previously tried to repair the wiper motor as a brush was stuck but could not make it work when he refitted it. He asked me to get a s/h replacement which I did and that did not work either. He then found the corroded terminal block. We now have wipers and a good s/h wiper motor to sell! Next was our Volvo V70 T5 that is in storage and has been a non starter for a while now, that turned out to be the ignition fuse had blown. He thinks the most likely reason is when jump starting the car previously. I used the E reg Visa diesel to get myself to storage and stopping at my friend’s house to collect the storage keys. I found the glow plug light stuck on when I came away. As I had the Auto electrician about I had him check it and sure enough it was feeding the glow plugs permanently. He pulled the plug off for me to get home and some time ago I broke a Visa diesel and had a rely box. The bad new is it broke the power lead stud undoing it on the replacement, so now it is on one thread, no washer and some araldite! Wish me luck I am going to a Triumph meeting in it tonight in Bicester! Skizzer and UltraWomble 2
richardmorris Posted February 21, 2017 Posted February 21, 2017 I have to say that the Gt does look like a rotten pear.
