Regards the above, my last MX5 also had a habit of emptying its expansion tank for reasons unknown. 
Next FoD meet is looking questionable for me at the moment with my work rota. I'd love to be there and will strive to do so but likelihood is currently low.

I had to move a couple of cars around in storage. The Chrysler Sebring started on the button with a jump while the BiTurbo took a bit of churning.

It was MOTed upto Nov 2020 but I can't remember using it last year during lockdown so I guess that is Nov 2019 mud when I have a photo of it out and about.

Coil Sprung and Water tight*

Driving this big bug has allowed me to answer a question i had wondered. 

The "new" beetle was it SHIT?

Overall, not really. Windscreen to driving position feels odd at first and makes the car feel massive.  Seats feel quite upright but everything seems to fall to hand quite nicely . The handling and power are all very neutral but not so much in a bad way,  if you take it for what it is and drive normally id say its a fairly relaxed place to be and rather quiet.

Roof down  with the flower blowing in the breeze it feels a bit weird, as it really highlights how far back from the screen you are, i feel with all the windows down and the pillarless doors makes for a nicer place to be.

Dealing with sagging headlining is a hard job and I am not aware of anybody who readily has the skills. 

Try this video in case you think you can tackle it yourself and then I have several for you to do!

He cuts it in two!

I did wonder about simply lowering the front seats and disattaching the lining board but leaving it in the car and recovering it in the car while the board is loose. 

Is this utter madness?

My guess is trying to glue the new headlining evenly to the board is going to be very very difficult within the confines of the car.

The rear window then, it had become detached from the hood and was hanging on one side. When i looked at it at FOD id found a sheared bolt/ stud from a swivel joint being seized up. 

Peeling the remaining bit of roof away from the glass ment i could now pull the window out the car. I then drilled off the rivets holding the swivel part on. 

Im sure you can buy this part but after a bit of a soak in some oil and some love taps i got the swivel to errr swivel and as i have a welder some fiddly tack welds would surfice,  it was a case of tack then lob it in a jar of cold water to not melt its bracket. 

Re riveted to the frame and bothe swivels packed with copperslip.

Over a couple of evenings i bonded the screen to the roof material in sections top, bottom then the sides using mannol windscreen bond.  I couldnt do it in one as it kept moving around. 

After it all dried i trimmed off any blobby bits and smearing, masked up with a sort of 6 mm gap rouund the edge and ran a bead round that i then smeared with my finger to push into any gaps and also to hide any lumps and bumps. Some thinners on a rag got the old gaffa tape residue off 

Whip the tape off and it looks alright.

Buggin' me

After realising id have to glue the window in stages i had some time to kill,

The rather large veeee dubbbyaa on the front was looking very tired from a stone battering.

The paint on the car is  actually rather tidy so lets do something about that badge letting the front down

Some 3000 grit, satin black , leftover clear laquer and some steady masking .  Perfect? No but Much better.

Little things, big difference.

Strut ya stuff, 

The familiar sound of a broken spring required the front shock to come off,

With the beetles wee bonnet the struts are under the scuttle panel.  with the n.s having been replaced sometime recently i noted some odd chopping had been done! 

At first i thought savages! Then i thought hold up, theres got to be a reason here as cutting it would be far more work that simply pulling it off. Indeed they were right. It feels as if the trims bonded on maybe from a new screen at some point.  It wouldnt budge

I thought id cut the other side but this would have taken ages. So some eyeballing and a step cutter drill and we have access for a 1/2" extension and some ugga dugga action .A rubber bung in after and shes almost factree. 

No further pics as the following repairs involved a spinning track rod end and spring compressor shenanigans.  Jobs that really dont want to be remembered in pictures!
