New Here - Canadian Shite

Hello all, new here, referred by the profile of a fellow on Flickr who always has lots of beautiful shite in his photostream. I'm still not entirely sure I understand all the ins and outs of what makes this site what it is, but browsing around, I find lots of old bangers, and that warms my heart.

 

For a combination of reasons, I like to daily get out of the office for a 30-45 minute walk around town, and I'm always armed with my digicam and an eye for interesting cars. My photography of "shite" has been, so far, relatively limited, but if people like to see some Canadian crap then I'll be happy to photograph more. I usually take front and rear photos of everything I see but for the purposes of my "Autoshite Evaluation" I'll just upload one of each car for now. Still plenty more in my archives and always lots more to be found on the streets. Here's a little sample of what I see around town:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

OK, so not actually shite, not at all:

 

The Renault 9 was sold in North America as the Renault Alliance, and 2-door saloon and convertible versions were available:

Excellent stuff, I use flickr quite a lot too and have come across quite a few Canadian users who like their shite. I think the Canadian car market tends to be more interesting than the American markey due to the sheer diversity and variety, particularly when it comes to 60's and 70's stuff. Look forward to seeing more of your images! Feel free to hammer the forum with Datsun 510 and other japanese stuff too!

Top notch first post!I'd love one of those big Lincolns, I'd drive round in it all day in a garish tracksuit and extort local businesses on behalf of the Hirst family. Where's my money!Bashed-up Plymouth is a bit odd, joyriders? Wonder if that battery is any good, might be worth disconnecting and taking home!

Great stuff! Several of your photos look surprisingly "European" in terms of both the cars visible and the architecture. The Renault ragtop is surely ultra-rare, perplexing why they never marketed them here.

Welcome, awesome stuff. Alliance in your first post! I think you'll find plenty of stuff of interest to the folks on here, ebay searches for assorted tat frequently turn up gems in Canada.

Not sure what the story is on the Plymouth. Perhaps it was the big truck in the background that did it?

 

My little corner of Canada, Saint John, New Brunswick, along the east coast, is the first incorporated city in Canada, dating back to the 1700s. Of course then it was British North America, and so Saint John has a remarkably English feel about it.

 

Unfortunately, unlike out west, we use a lot...a lot of road salt, and so, although there are still plenty of -70's cars around, they've mostly all been restored. Even unrestored '80s cars are getting pretty rare here now.

 

The white thing next to the Renault is actually a pale yellow '67 Cadillac DeVille that looks like it was long loved, but is now languishing in the forecourt of a small garage, and has been there all year.

 

 

 

On the day I took those photos, this old LTD was beside it.

That Cadillac looks well worth saving, the LTD doesn't.That Plymouth Breeze has a typical North American 'I've only got liability insurance for this, so screw it' look to it, although they've left the plates on. Or maybe the plates should be attached to a Toyota Tacoma 300 miles away.

The estate actually used the same body as the coupé, it just had a little hatch thing called the "Sportbak" that you could swap quick and easy with the regular coupé/hatch bit. They even advertised that you could drive around with the hatch off, don't think anyone ever did though.I was in love with the taillamps on them when they were new and I was but a kiddy

When do they date from, the early 80s? Who makes it? The rear reminds me of the mid 80s Mitsubishi Lancer estate!

Hello and welcome!Great first spots, I like the Alliance Convertible.My Uncle and his family live in Hampton, not far from Saint John. One of his cars in the early 80s was a Renault Alliance, prob inspired by his last car he had in the UK before emigrating , a Renault Dauphine. I visited there in 1999 and enjoyed it a lot, esp familiarising myself with the cars there - I still have lots to learn though. He did his best to show me as many as he could!My Uncle brought over a copy of the local NB motoring classifieds (Car Trader?)for me back in 1988, quite a hefty publication, which is full of now-shite American cars. Must look it out!

WHAT! I love those old square mid-size LTDs (aka Fairmont in (low) drag), hopefully for max shite points it's running the propane version of the 2.3 4cyl lump. With a bench seat and column shift, naturally.

Welcome! Loving that Alliance. i'd really like to import one, remove the US spec bumpers and emisions kit and replace them with Euro spec stuff to make a 'proper' R9 / 11 convertible.

That Lancer has fabulous taillamps! The car I posted is a '87-'90 Nissan Pulsar NX (aka Exa in Japan).

No way! I work in Saint John but just moved to Hampton (population ~4,000) this year. I love the town, great quaint place.

It's a '95-'99 Buick Riviera. A bit new, I realize, but they always were a bit odd and not very common.

I love the things too, and I can only think of one other in town (although there's probably a few more lurking around). I remember when Grand Theft Auto: Vice City came out I was all excited that the cops and cabs were LTDs.

The Riviera is pretty much the most ovoid car you can buy, followed closely by the Olds Aurora (which I believe it shared a platform with) and the Mk2 Ford Taurus. What were the Septics thinking?
