Credit where it's due...........................

Specifically, Halfords' Yeovil branch. Other half's daughter has a 2003 Beetle. Both dipped beam  filaments failed within 36 hours of each other, and as it's raining /can't be arsed, I though I  wouId take advantage of their "free fit" bulb service.

Young whippersnapper grabbed two bulbs off the shelf, and, armed with a screwdriver, strode confidentally into the car park......................10 minutes later, strode back, rather less than confidentally....................and grabbed the rest of his tool kit. Managed to change the driver's side one, after a further 10 minutes wrestling. The passenger side, however, is a complete arse ache. Out came the airbox, but 20 minutes more wrestling proved fruitless, even with the help of his line manager. In the end, the store manager himself came out, and got the headlamp unit out, breaking a couple of clips. Old plastic and sub zero temperatures don't make good bedfellows.!

I now [1 1/2 hours later] had a full compliment of headlamps. Went back inside the shop, expecting to be royally raped on the price......................£13.98! They reduced the price, as they'd broken a couple of clips, which they are replacing f.o.c.

I know we all take the pish out of Halfords, but this lot were impeccably helpful, and unfailing polite......................

In cases like this I usually take to twitter or write an email to big them up.

I work in retail, and almost every store I've seen has some sort of well done for anyone going the extra mile and getting a thankyou letter, whether it's a bottle of wine or just their name on a board.

Me too.

I complain frequently and readily enough.

It's only fair to say a little something when someone does a good job.

They were lucky to have an appreciating customer as opposed to the mouthbreathing twats that want them fitting FOC then threaten to set the dogs on the poor halfords boy because a couple of clips got broken.

I bought x2 H7's on trade, the other day and fitted them myself.

One, upside down. Whoops.

In my defence, it was dark and raining.

I will admit to being a lazy arse on occasion, and using their services too.

When I had The Moose (V40 T4), the n/s headlight bulb went. Upon investigation I decided that the gap to get my fists of ham through was far too small, got them to do it. Poor fecker spent 40 minutes fiddling and swearing under his breath. And bleeding too IIRC. He earnt his £2.99 or whatever.

And I agree, a specific "U IZ GR9" email would bve more appreciated than you realise. (I used to work in retail too....)

I attended a late reg Rav4 non start at Halfords last week where their ''trained staff'' had been tasked to fit a new battery to it but alas connected it up arse about face, blew lots of fuses and then denied it.

Luckily after using a 100amp maxi fuse to bypass the blown fusible link in the live lead and changing a few fuses under the dash the Toyota seemed none the worse for it.

Can only repeat what's been said and think it's time for a very nicely worded letter or email. Always in enough when you're taken into the office for a good reason :-)

I took the wifes car, it is also an arse to change the NS bulb on. Worth the charge to save me an hours arseache.

Assistant had small girly hands which probably helped

Definitely worth writing a nice email to thank them for their service as it'll make a change from complaints about nonsense.

TBH it does almost makes it worth the £14 they charged you for the £7 worth of bulbs.

I go in Yeovil branch almost weekly as its less than a mile from home , mostly to check the bargains , it used to have a garage section that did MOTs and servicing but thats long gone now .

The old guy who works there is quite helpful

I have the job of replacing the bulbs on the accord down to a fine art. I can NOW do it in 10 mins without swearing, although they seem to blow every 6 months for no reason, other than to piss me off.

The (bmw) mini is great. Lift bonnet, remove bulb from above your head, fit bulb, test lights, close bonnet, within 3 mins. They fecked it up on the generation 2 though. The lights don't lift with the bonnet.
