UltraWomble Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 The business end of the XUD is the same across the range, only the HP cars have slight differences with a cam driven pump.
sporty-shite Posted January 23, 2015 Author Posted January 23, 2015 Bloody hell, gents, it's getting a bit heated in here!!! Reet, to answer the questions: I've just checked throught the stuff I got with the car, and there's a stamped service book up to 2010. Last stated timing belt change, however, was 2005 @ 63000 miles, so it might be prudent to allow for a change soon. It's had three previous owners, two of which owned the car up to 2013. The lad who I bought it off, bought it as an MOT failure in 2013 and put a good used rear beam on it, before running it around for about 18 months. The wheels look straight, and there are no clunks at all over the bumps. The oil leak appears to be coming from the bottom end, hence why I said I thought it was sump or crankshaft seal. I haven't had a really good look, so I won't guarantee it isn't also coming from somewhere else. However, it uses no water, and only a minimal amount of oil. There's no mayo and no overheating, whether in traffic or at speed, so I suspect the head hasket is safe. I won't want to buy it back, I'm afraid. I'm just not feeling the love for this car. If I wanted to see it on my drive, I'd keep it. Common sense tells me I should keep it, because it's economical, reliable, comfortable and has a really good heater. But I want an Alfa GTV, 406 coupe or other similarly less sensible conveyance, so it's got to go. Finally, it's got to be first come, first served. I've had a PM from a shiter who may want to come for a look this weekend. If he waves cash, it'll have to go. Twiggy and UltraWomble 2
Partridge Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 Shame I'd get shot at dawn for bringing two crap cars home in one month! It's a bargain, hope it finds a home soon. GLWTS.

sporty-shite Posted January 27, 2015 Author Posted January 27, 2015 Come on, shiters. What's going on? Page 4? Some people don't know a good* car when they see it. UltraWomble 1
MikeKnight Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 Is this pretty much a small Xantia? I'd be interested for run around purposes, but people may think the Xantia is somehow breeding. That and the whole "oh look I'm broke" thing.
beko1987 Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 Smaller than a Xantia, but with metal twisty bits by the front wheels, and some oil filled tube things at the back. Some say not a proper citroen! I've done 8k trouble free miles in mine! Yes it's got it's own unique issues but it's a reliable steed, gets me to work and back day in, day out, pushes newer metal out of the way on the m40 and embarrases the board of directors when I park it right next to their segment of the car park! Even with this ones small issues, you could probably just drive it without having to do any work for a good while yet. Door lock doesnt work? - who's going to steal it!? Mine has a switch wired int othe fuel pump (somehow) and hidden behind the dash, retrofit that if you're worried, certainly easier than fixing the door lock probably!

It's basically a 306 in a shrunken Xantia frock!! Don't worry about the door lock, it does work, just not with the plip. You just lock it separately with the key. It also has the standard alarm and immobiliser keypad, so security is actually pretty good. Come on Mike (the) Knight. Get it bought, you brave young hero!! beko1987, dollywobbler and Dave_Q 3
beko1987 Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 The keypad is great, many fun times laughing at Amy trying to start the old zx when she picked me up from the pub a few times when "just one" turned into 9... sporty-shite 1
UltraWomble Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 Disconnected the keypad of doom on the last one I had. It was a PITA.

I meant more along the lines of not being able to afford to buy it in the first place. Need to drop £500 at some point to sort the clutch on the 944. It's currently just sat in the yard, festering. Ugh god why do all the cars I own have expensive fucking tastes. dugong 1

UltraWomble Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Jesus wept, will somebody please buy this before I am forced to drive down the M61. The trouble is I'll end up spending ££££ getting this looking mint if I buy it.

castros_bro Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 Bumpty bump Hi, If this fine steed still available I'd like it as someone seems to have taken a machete to the dash on mine in an attempt to expose the wiring to cure an electrical gremlin so it is now officially a "failure to proceed" Problem 1/ is I could only collect it on Wednesday 11th Feb or after 23rd Feb, Problem 2/ is of peak trains to Bolton from here are £90+ but there just the one each weekday for £36 arriving at 3pm I'll try sending a PM but presently my phone isn't being helpful as an internet device.
scooters Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 flipping bargain - does it have a Bosch pump or a Lucas one?
Lacquer Peel Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 Lucas at that age, 99% sure. Also, the third post.
scooters Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 Ah! I have run 30%veg and 70% diesel through a lucas before in a 306. It ran for 40k, pump died and I then bunged in a bosch. Not sure if I'd recommend it though! My XM runs on anything vaguely oily.

Whereabouts are you? I haven't got another car yet, so if I could find something close-ish to you, it might make things easier. My nearest rail station is Daisy Hill which might make trains a bit easier. Bolton at 3pm would be a bit of a problem but Daisy Hill or Westhoughton would be fine.
castros_bro Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 Guildford Surrey. For me there's no rush but am away picking oranges from 14th to 23rd. Westborough seems ok from Bolton and no silly extra fare, that would still be 3-4pm but I can always doodle away a few hours with a stopover in Bolton. Could do a P/X with a quality* CZ type477 (motorbike*).

Not sure if I'd recommend it though! My XM runs on anything vaguely oily. Mine (epic) ran 70/30 veg/dizzle at -15 and the rest in 2010, with a heat exchanger in the fuel line. Up to 85% in fair weather and was more economical than any Bosch. Lasted the life* of the car. About 30k on veg (270+), until the belt snapped while washing it for the first time in years.

I have a Bosch from a 1.5D 106 to fit onto my 1.5D AX in an attempt to bankrupt Shell Oil
UltraWomble Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 You have to replace the whole she bang, pump, injectors and so on. IIRC there are subtle differences in the plumbing as well (primer pipework, thermostat housing, or certainly there are on the BX).
sporty-shite Posted February 5, 2015 Author Posted February 5, 2015 Castros_bro just tried to phone you about this. Will try later, or if you want, you can call me back when you've got a chance.
