Impressed with that result. Glad you didn't let it beat you.

I'm very surprised and pleased that you managed fix and fit that dude. Well played. Looks like a proffesional job too.

I must say when the board thing broke into 3 pieces I was a bit despondent, I thought WTF am I gonna do with this now? I suppose any 26-yr old bit of compressed cardboard is gonna be pretty flippin useless. But the fibreglass idea sounded like the best bet and in the event has turned out to be a winnAr

I would like to get the alloy wheels on this thing refurbished next, but am baulking at the £200 cost. However If I do get em done, and go over it with the polishing mop I reckon it will be a proper minter!!! Its the sort of car that will make such a cool and usable daily as well, i think I'd feel like a proper winner driving about in it.

Top Job. You're probably now in the unique position of being the only owner of a Volvo of this age without a headliner drooping like an elephants ball sack. You'll need to try a Range Rover next.

Excellent work there, the SVM will be proud

That looks the tits Bollox man! The cardboard form on these is properly fragile and I was despondent when I knocked a corner off mine. So when you said yours had disintegrated it looked pretty hopeless so it's great to see it all worked out.

SVM APPROVED HEADLINING REPAIR.

Headlinings are a lot like bodywork- lots of people have a go and usually end up bodging it ( pins/staples/bin it) Like bodywork it's very hard to get "right" and like bodywork you've made it look easy!

Posted

The SVM will now know who to turn to for fucked headliners in their Swedish bricks, call 0800 MRBOLLX :)

Posted

I've only done one other headlining - the one in the Argenta, this one has turned out far better.

The difficult bit is getting it out half-intact, I think one on an estate must be a fair bit easier (despite being bigger) as at least you have a massive hole to extract it from the car.

Blimey. Every day's a school day on here, as they say.  (Looks up at bare metal on roof of daily driver van and suddenly feels inadequate).

Satisfying work, good result!

Good skills there! Takes me back to doing the headlining on my Saab 9000, twas droopier than Babs Windsor with no support garment. Same gutwrenching snap's and mucho fibreglassing but yours came out better than mine. Curious which glue you used for the fabric, I tried some standard scotch stuff which didn't like warm days so did it again with "super90" stuff used for neoprene which held it well.

Right I have been up the garage tonight and removed the wheels from this so they can get blasted & powder coated before it hits the road. Exciting times!!! Won't be coming to shitefest though as my dad has today found he has a cancerous bleb on his ear, so I am gonna spend most of the weekend with him instead to hopefully cheer him up.

This Volvo should be officially ON THE ROAD saturday lunchtime which far outweighs the bad news however! Yessssssss

I am astonished by the quality of the job you have done on the headliner. I have favourited the thread so I can refer to it if/when I need to do it.

What a superb job!

Best wishes with the Bol patriach.

External ear cancer bleb jobs are usually really easy to fix. Cut em out and sew em up.

I am a doctor, honest.

Went to pick my wheels up today

Theyre only the wrong flippin colour!!! Look like grey primer not silver.

The chaps have agreed to re-do em, (fair play to em, theyre charging me £40/wheel to dip, blast, and powdercoat, sounds like a flippin massive ballache to me for £40) but it means I wont be on the road this weekend sadly.

Posted

Did they think you asked for gray or did they just balls it up?

Posted

I didn't mind it, but it will look shite with the silver centre caps on!!!! Can't wait to get them done and on the car though.

Posted

Being a man of lesser determination, I would have asked for half my money back and sprayed the centre caps with plastic primer.

Good to get what you want when you've paid for a proper professional job though.

Along with a full stainless exhaust system, a nice set of powdercoated wheels on on my list of things that I would like on "some car" at "some point".

still thinking of taking it for a trip to the tat museum Bol?

Posted

Certainly still hope to take it to France next weekend.... fingers crossed!!! Gonna put Mrs Crab on the insurance and maybe chuck the A frame in the boot as well!!

ON THE FLIPPIN ROAD!!!!

I'm still looking for a sunroof motor - for the time being the 'electric' sunroof is operated via a cordless drill, and i've bust the rear view mirror trying to refit it which is a bit of a bummer. Oh and the front wheels need re-balancing after their powder coat job. But other than that this car is FLIPPIN SWEET!!!! I cant wait to set off to France in it on Thursday!!
