Loosing the will to sell a car.

He had a policy that covered 3rd party claims, sold the bike, didn't cancel his policy, purchaser has accident whilst uninsured and injures third party. Third party brings claim, goes to MIB because rider uninsured, MIB says not us guv, cos there is a policy that will respond, so insurers are forced to pay out. Unlikely that his insurers would seek recovery from him for breaching terms of policy but possible.

Moral of the story is cancel your insurance straightaway. This guy isn't the only person to have got into this level of shit for the same reason

Great thread. You have the patience of a saint my man.

I don`t suffer fools gladly and would have genuinely told them to Fuck right off. I have a workmate with a wife like that. Fucking idiot of a women and needs a hoof in the hole.

I had two smelly bastards turn up about 9 years ago to view a 1985 Granada I had for sale. 2.8 Ghia X pack. Car went well with virtually no rust bar the lip of the bonnet. I was wanting £100 . These two stinky bastards turned up from another town. Father and son, both fat greasy whores with hardly an arse in their trousers but I thought "Fuck it, it gets it away". After hoking and poking every single fucking thing they took it drive.Back to my house more hoking and poking and by this time my patience was wearing fucking thin. "Aye, it drives well, would you take £70?"

I got into the car, put it back in the garage and closed and locked the garage door. While they stood watching confused, I then said to them to get to fuck off my drive before I lift something. They stood outside for a few seconds then shuffled away.

It`s a sad fact of life that idiots and dumb bastards outnumber relatively switched on people. That`s why the world is so full of fuck ups.

I've got loads to do tomorrow, but I just know I'm going to be checking this thread every ten minutes.

My vote is for they turn up, lippy wife tries to haggle, get told to FRO, you lose the £100 but retain car.

Vince, you have made my unemployment worthwhile! I can sit here all day waiting for your dad to mug them off

Why are the insurers not just pointing out the obvious fact that this buyer is not covered under their policy? On what basis would the old insurance policy cover him? I have never heard of an insurance policy transferring to a buyer after a sale. The insurers dont know the first thing about him so how can they assess the risk?

But the bike was insured. There is someone paying insurance on that bike. Just because it wasn't the person paying who was riding, well that happens every day. I don't pay the insurance on my car, but someone does, so as a driver I'm covered.

Yeah but it had been agreed up front who is and isn't covered by the policy and i bet it doesn't include folk who buy the car off you!!

I bumped into this when I had trade insurance. I put a car on my insurance as I was going to buy it, turned up and the car wasn't all that so didn't buy it.

I got distracted by some butterflys or something and didn't remove it from my policy. The new owner then crashed it (while insured) but because I still had it on my policy the other drivers insurance tried to get us to split the claim even though I'd never owned it or been on the v5 or anything.

A bit daft on my part but my insurance didn't have a web page or anything so I couldn't check what was and was not on my policy so it got forgotten and left on. After a bit of aggro the other insurance caved but I've got it on my policy and a non fault incident.

This and the buying that disasterous cluster of 3 series put my off the trade insurance. Now at the end of the month I seem to have some money in my account that wasn't there before.

They don't have much of a sense of humour about it. I had a women from my insurance company call up and call me twat down the phone for 20 minutes.

Wow, that's quite a policy. Do you pay more for verbal abuse or is it thrown in like legal cover?

I've still not got any confirmation that he's turning up tomorrow apart from the reply on Saturday and he has my mobile and my fathers landline number.

I don't know how this works as I seem to buy a lot more than sell but I normally text or phone the seller the night before saying I have the money and insurance in place etc etc and that I will see them at such and such a time, but saying that I just pay cash when it comes to buying cheap cars.

My bet is I get a text tomorrow saying can he delay till after Christmas because the money for the car needs to be spent on a vet bill or some such story but I could be wrong.

But if that happens I will either ask for his bank details so I can wire his deposit back or tell him to pick the cash up.

If he does have the car after this hassle I may just get Jed the dog to drop one of his farts in the car just before he drives off into the sunset lol.

Dont do that - the mad cow will want money knocking off for a pollen filter.

Whenever I have a meeting arranged through my job, I always clarify the times and locations the day before, preferably via text or email as once or twice I have travelled to the arse end of the country and the guy I am seeing has forgotten, not turned up at work, or was fired the previous day in one case.

I think a quick text tonight to say "looking forward to seeing you tomorrow, can you just confirm what time you will be here roughly so I can make sure the car is ready for you when you arrive"

If he doesn't respond tonight, that's could be an early amber warning. If he hasn't responded by 11am tomorrow then assume its probably not happening

I don't think having your knob on display will improve the situation...

I've still not had a confirmation text.. I'm going for another 100 quid later on and a rubber cheque for 300 which can't be cashed till 2020.lol

But obviously the couple will want to take the car home as its needed to deliver Christmas presents for terminally ill etc.

Place your bets folks.

The only bit I don't understand or agree with is that if they don't turn up, they get their deposit back??

If you choose not to sell to them and cancel to sell to someone else, fine, but if you never hear from them again, that's why you took a deposit in the first place.

Posted

I hate to sound the pessimist but frankly if be amazed if they turned up. They will have found some flies on the bonnet that means another £50 ought to be deducted.

I'm sure I will hear from them sometime today but it will be some excuse or another why they can't get the money together or not and can you knock some off as we are skint as its Christmas etc.

The deposit is to secure the sale at the agreed price. If, for any reason out with your control, it doesn't go ahead, why would you be refunding the deposit?

In my view there are two options for your "purchaser".

1. Arrive. Hand over £400. Drive away.

2. Lose £100.
