SECOND SUNDAY

I thought I'd start on the suspension arm as working underneath cars in winter is grand fun. Still not 100% sure how I'm going to tackle this, it might fill with weld.

Hadn't noticed this bit before, the pressure washer must have dislodged part of the NSR inner wheel arch.

I investigated with the angry grinder. hello carpet, hello interior trim!

I will have to rebuild part of the lip there before I weld new metal into the wheel arch. Lots more cleaning up and cutting up to be done yet.

Then started poking inside the car further up the NSR inner wheel arch, the seatbelt anchorage plate fell off.

Then I called it a day :)

Small steps will see this done

I don't really have heroes, but you're in danger of becoming the first with these exploits.

Have to say, it's enormous fun on the back roads. Everybody needs a 1.6 Talbot Alpine !!

"Nobody sane will buy this heap!"

I was wrong

No mate, you were 100% right first time. This is Edd we're talking about.

I had come across the blue Alpine when it was on ebay. !

Not literally I hope. The last thing that needs is moar salt.

Here you go ..... (From Aug 1983 sales brochure)

attachicon.gifSpec P2.jpg

From the days when spec sheets had proper black dots.

And moreover from a time when the base model had sod all equipment and was proud of it - the young exec in the photo couldn't care less that his new car doesn't come with a passenger seat as standard.

Crispy, but well worth doing. I can't recall ever seeing an Alpine or Solara on the road, and the LE spec has to be one of the rarest of them all.

What's the plan with them? Keep both, or sell one when they're both back on the road?

Excellent thread, very inspiring so far, can't wait to read of the progress of both of them.

I was going to sell or swap the Horizon but reading this thread has made me re-consider.

  • rear seat armrest
  • fully reclining front seats
  • glove box lid
  • passenger vanity mirror
  • heated rear window

what decadence for a "base" model- you should be ashamed

To continue with the decadence theme, I have attached the 2 pages for the LS (next model up) which would have cost a further £390 ish in 1983.

The GL and GLS will follow tomorrow

"Rear compartment heating" - magnificent!

I'd forgotten alpines had that. My music teacher had one when I was a nipper...I remember being impressed at the plastic ducts going into the back. Bloody hell, I want one now.

Posted

If I remember I think the ford 1.6 16v only had 90 horse to so was quite good at the time.

My passenger mirror's gonna have to go ain't it... these cost a fortune to replace so WIN that I only need the one.

Samba , how is the white charade ?

Still at the other - other end of the country!

The bronze metalic... or antique copper metallic (haven't quite decided) Alpine GL will be staying in the same spot it's been hiding for the last 30+ years until after Christmas.

Definitely the last post i'll make clogging Ed's thread up with brochure scans - but at the back of the very same brochure is a 1 page teaser for the Tagora (sadly I don't have the separate catalogue referred to)
