Anyone want a CX?

Was this not up for only £800 when DW sold it and it was (sometimes) working and was at least road legal?

Probably, that's why it's hopeless trying to sell it for a grand in the state it's in.

We could smash the 340 into it, or alternatively, we could smash it with the yellow volvo pictured.

Blimey.

Happy to donate a box of matches if you've got a jerry can.

I reached that point with my last cx!

A grand? Oh sweet Jesus no!

It is a 25RI Familiale (8-seater) automatic. When I owned it, it wasn't without issues, but somehow just kept going, and was truly superb in snow. Unexpected. I can't say I ever really poked around underneath it - I think I had it MOTd during my ownership though, and I can't remember an MOT tester laughing at me. The heater matrix was a little iffy, and the blower would occasionally fail to work, but I have a feeling the chap who bought it off me (an occasional Autoshiter - back in early 2011) replaced the matrix and blower. Perhaps something else failed and that's why the dash is out again.

Hydraulics were nay bother whatsoever, other than the usual Mk2 CX weo of the electronic control for the height adjustment sticking occasionally - just move to another setting, then back to the one you want again. They went back to a mechanical control on the XM I note...

Hey man, I thought you were making it your aim to buy every derelict and disused car in Scotland.

Yes but this one's too expensive. We like cheap shite here.

Apparently the drivers electric window failed and that's why the dash is out.

With that level of weirdness/complexity and a price tag of £1000? If the phone doesn't ring you know it's me not ringing.

Lol

I think it will need to be in full working order, clean, and have an MOT to be worth that sort of money.

Well, if you think it'll be worth a grand with an mot, cleaned up and running I'm sure it can be arranged.

It would be a damn site nicer prospect for someone with an MOT.

I think it might even sell with one as these are quite rare and sought after ... allegedly.

Could well be if you can find the right person but that is not likely to produce the quick sale. As it stands it is not worth much at all even if it is sound underneath. Presumably the dash has not been put back because plasticky bit have broken and it will need at the very minimum a set of spheres. How old are the tyres?

I do have a hankering for one of these with the early dashboard but this one is about as far away as you can get from me on the UK mainland and I have far too much work to take on a project.

I put a pair of HERO tyres on it. Can't have done many miles. I think a grand is realistic if it was up and running with MOT. They're not worthless now, but most folk are only interested in Series 1s, turbos or diesels, so I doubt it'll ever be worth a fortune. It's a delightful 3-speed automatic though, and a lovely, grunty engine. Absolutely horrible to drive for the first 50 miles, but then you adjust to the super-quick steering and supreme comfort. I only sold it because threading it down Welsh mountain lanes was akin to trying to sew with a pencil.

I dont think I would ever buy a car with its dashboard out in any circumstance, except something like a flippin Renner 4 or an Ital or some such where the dash is a proper token effort anyway

I should have bought it when DW had it. I would have probably recovered from the financial kick in the balls by now and all cx temptation would be banished.

my boss had one new when I was 18. That was an utter money pit then.

Are the 8 seaters not really rare?

This holds much appeal as a replacement for the V70 - it's a 7 seater but the extra 2 in the boot are for kids only

The CX looks like it could sit 8 adults. Plus there's boot space beyond the third row of seats? How long are these??

The problem I had with my familiales (I had two) was that whenever we went out with a bunch of friends I ended up driving so that they could all have a drink.

I found the 25RI I had to be hopelessly undergeared for a car with such a big, torquey, low-revving engine.  Having said that, this did make it a bloody brilliant towcar.  Except when trying to reverse a trailer into a tight space, when the combination of huge length and supertanker-esque turning circle made it a right pain in the arse.

My 25TRi Familiale was a manual and the gearing worked fine but I do remember a combination of poor steering lock and long car made reversing with a trailer hard. Other gripes were not being able to lower the centre row of seats to get a long load area and mind did not have central locking which was a pain. Loved the car though.

Yup. The fixed middle row of seats is a pain in the arse, as is the length! They're enormous. Even compared to modern cars (in terms of length). But, they are truly remarkable machines. The XM doesn't feel as special at all, though it is better as an actual car I think.

Why do that if you have the time? Would probably be fairly easy to shift, no?

It's not really mine to sell...

Anyway it looks much better outside!

That seriously does need the dashboard putting back in to stand a chance. It looks far more hideously complex than it actually is with that wiring on show. Hope someone does save the old girl. Sadly, as I discovered first time around, an eight-seater is a bit ridiculous when there is only me and the wife.

Unbolt and remove the middle row of seats and you've got a five-seater with legroom to shame any limo.

Does look fantastic, they're seriously handsome cars.  I was going to say though that the interior looks like the world's most terrifying jigsaw puzzle although presumably it should be a fairly logical reassembly job if everything's there.
