Her Name is Corsa

All I know about that is the colour makes it look like a plastic kit.  Which is weird.

I don't mind these you know. Once drove a dizzler back-to-back with its replacement. I much preferred the earlier car.

The B was definitely better than the C.

Should be but some people reckon some are FM efforts. I'd be 99% sure it's Isuzu, I believe the alternator will be stamped if you can see it.

No under bonnet shots - will have to go and have a looksie.

Me in a Corsa? Oh the shame.. The shame...

I thought only the B 1.5D C*rsas were Isuzu engined and the bigger motors (A*tra/V*ctra) got the. 1.7 Isuzu lump.... Every day is a school day.

Just to confuse you, they made 1.5 1.5TD and 1.7D Corsa Bs. I've talked to people who swore down all newer Vauxhalls had the GM engine, and others who said that some were Isuzu and identifiable by engine components.

I'd have another 1.5TD in a heartbeat, unbelievable amount of poke in those things.

LIEPEDIA says:

The Circle L is an automobile engine produced by GM Powertrain Poland in Poland. It is a 1,686 cc (1.686 L; 102.9 cu in) Diesel straight-4 originally designed by Isuzu but now owned by General Motors. The engine is used in Europe by GM's Opel subsidiary and by Honda.

So, is it an Isuzu clone? Or is it junk made by Fisher Price?

Also from Shittepedia:

'There were a choice of two diesel engines; one was an Isuzu 1.7 L 4EE1 inline-four unit, in both naturally aspirated and turbocharged form (1,686 cc), this one capable of achieving 82 PS (60 kW), and an Opel designed 1.7 "low blow" turbodiesel (1,699 cc), and naturally aspirated diesel unit, delivering up to 68 PS (50 kW; 67 hp). Both units have a reputation for longevity, especially Isuzu developed units, which were also regarded as some of the most refined diesels available at the time'

I can only therefore deduce that if the Corsa you posted above is 1686cc, you're onto a winner. If, however, it's the 1699 Slow Blow then even I will struggle to think of anything nice to say about them, certainly in Mk3 Astra format, where, even with a turbo, they were hopelessly asthmatic.

Stoopid question, but any idea what turbo was fitted tot the 1.7 C*rsas? Would it be the same as used on the 1.5?

The reason I ask is a few years ago I found that the turbo from  the Isuzu engined 1.5D can be butchered together with the turbo used on some baby Daihatsus. This means that broken Daihatsu turbos can be fixed for not a lot of money. Replacement turbos for the Daihatsu from Japan were £900+ 4 years ago.

I think (and stand to be corrected) only much later 1.7 Corsa diesels were turbos, the older ones were n/a, though tales of people dropping tweaked 1.7TDs into them have been mooted.

What time are you starting the collection thread?

Can confirm 1686cc is the Isuzu lump.  Very good it is too.  Only vice on these later ones is the pump ECU that is bolted at the back of the block- the solder fails internally and causes running issues.

The good news is there are countless ebay sellers punting recon items for very little, £40/50 I think?  They don't need coding either.

The pump is Zexel- a Japanese Bosch copy and they love veg..

C5 would be my choice...... i have one as a towcar and another thats a daily runner for buisness partner .... currently have one for sale too haha all 3 are wagons of 2.2 hdi derivative

I know. I'd love a Luxobarge size car, but have to think with my heeeeeed.

1) I already have a ruddy great van size MPV

2) 99.9% of the time there is only ever going to be me in the car

3) The doctors surgery has a very small car park

4) when doing home visits its easier to park a small car than to try and park a large one around a town.

On the flip side I are a fat basket and something small always feels a bit claustrophobic for longer trips. I'll go and have a nose at the Corsa tomorrow on me day off.

It's reasons like that that make the Cherry such an ace little runabout.

The other one in town has had a power steering convertion with bits from an 80's Sunny which was apparently a right twat of a job so he's not up for doing mine too.

I think a Citroen would suit you better. A Xantia, for example.
