Just got 2x 5L 5W/30 fully synth for £15 each - on offer at the mo - it is in the grey container.

Normally retails for £22, both the vec and fiesta are due so I thought I would take advantage.

The stuff for VW PD engines is not on offer.

We're pouring this into the meriva constantly at the moment. Runs quite well tbh, when I drop the sump I'm going to fill back up with it, although may chicken out in the new year and put OmGMOBIL in...

I hope you are not telling us that you use Mobil1. That is for people who go on Pistonheads.

Mobil 1, rolls royce's, this site really is going to rat shit.

Just filter* the old stuff through a sock and pour it back in the top.

Used this in the old Honda cub. Mind you that thing would run on cooking oil and horse piss.

But the meriva is a new car... Was going to splash out on something if I stop the leaks to congratulate it on not being dead!

When I eventually get round the the ZX, possibly next year I'll use Valvolene.

I tried Asda oil in the Puma, and it did make it run a bit shit. But then that 1.7 engine is fussy as fuck re nikasil and other crap.

So long as spec the same, oil is oil. There isn't an Asda oil refinery. It's likely made and packaged by Carlube or Comma. Money is better spent on a oil filter with a non return valve.

I use Exol 10w30 el cheapo mineral in the Accord coupe at £15 for 5 lts and swap it out every 6 months with a Honda or HAMP filter. Oil is from here

I'd rather buy cheaper oil and change it twice a year than splash out on Mobil1 for my daily, I'd imagine it's probably the same stuff as the ASDA oil. I've used the cheap Carlube mineral oil in the past as well.

Given you can fist the tolerances on the old m20 and m30 lumps I have, its not too fussy.

5w30 seems to make an improvement to the fuel consumption though- so if its cheap I get it- otherwise any old 10w40 either mineral, semi (snigger) or fully synth will do

I use supermarket oil in all my tat.  The Rover of Doom currently has a sumpful of Tesco 15W40 mineral, which it seems fine on - although it's due a change soon and I might put some semi-synth in there this time.  Still Tesco's own brand though.

I bought a load of Castrol 5w30 fully synth a couple of years back when it was on offer - I have yet to own anything modern / low mileage enough to need an oil that thin.

Even the cheapest oil available today is likely to far out-specify the lube that was recommended for our tat when it was new.. so no worries there.  Just make sure the grade is appropriate.

Regular changes are far more important than using premium*, 'as seen on tv' oils :)

She's just come back from asda with 4l for £15, the offer is indeed there!

Apparently they had different grades on the shelf, luckily she picked the one that said Vauxhall, I'll investigate when I've finished my rolly

I find the best place for oil is Carparts4less or Euro car parts ..

5 litres of fully synthetic 5w40 is only 12 quid and if you look up a discount code online it's even cheaper,

I just bought some myself this evening for £11.55 with free delivery, it's a no brainer.

Plus it passes VAG spec so it's not bad stuff, I don't know if it's true but I did hear it's rebranded shell oil.

I just noticed today that the local Wilko is doing cheap oil and I got a pair of wipers for the Kia for £2 each as well. They even had Pride/Festiva on them under the cars to fit list.

If anyone has a Yorkshire Trading Company near them (is that just a northern thing?), they had 5L of Comma 10W40 or 5W30 for £15 the other week.

I've noticed the supermarkets selling 4L bottles lately, when most cars will take 5L for a change. Sneaky.

That's a good price but since supermarkets don't even know what they put into there beef burgers or even how much profit they make, how do we know you are not buying 4 (5) litres of sterilised horse pish mixed with ground up lima beans.

I know asda is convenient if you're out shopping but for those of us "resting" between roles, this appears to be the cheapest online

it's going in the 'Scort, anyway.

edited to add, no it isn't. carparts4less is cheaper
