Direct Debit to tax car annually?

Recommended Posts

Posted

I taxed my first car under the new system yesterday, the plan was to pay the year in full but I have been duped into agreeing to an annual direct debit. Did I miss the bit that said single payment or will they only let you pay by direct debit now?

Posted

You clearly missed the bit saying pay in full, the DD option is only an option for us skinters who drive big cars.

 an annual direct debit.

That reads like they're going to be taking the full years money in one hit?

Yes 20th Nov one payment but I did not want to give them permission to do the same next year.

Ah I see what your saying now Six Cylinder, sorry  :?

Surely they cant do that?? (but wouldn't surprise me if they did)

When I opened this I thought the way it was worded was a bit strange,

nope it s not £1008 to tax a motorbike by monthly dd

Does that document carry the Crystal Mark? Report them if it does. I reported their website a few years ago.

That reads fine by me, if you pay by monthly direct debit you pay £84.

You know full well if they put "Monthly - £7" then you'd get people moaning that they didn't realise the DD was more than upfront because they're too thick to times it by twelve.

Here's an idea. Put in a column showing the monthly charge and another showing the total cost. Like everybody else who offers monthly payments does.

Yeah, the DD can be used for monthly and annual recurrences.

But I only wanted to pay for one year year by debit card with no recurrences is there a way to do that?

Posted

Yes, second box down. You can cancel the DD from your bank account easily if you have online banking, and I assume also over the phone or in a branch.

I did the escort today, 20 dodgers a month.

the lovely Kerry at the post office informed me that by taxing it today, I was covered from the first of the month.

I was too busy looking at her bosoms to question this, should I have done?

Posted

One should always look at bosoms rather than ask sensible questions.

I taxed my new car by DD on Saturday (monthly installments, not Kerry's chebbs) and never even got a reciept.

Strange practice, now.

Handy, though!

I taxed mine a few days ago. It was cheaper to pay by DD but in one go than it was to use a debit card for a one off payment, so obviously I did that. Looking at other people's reminders it seems this hasn't been the case for anyone else though..?

I have found my mistake, I read one off payment but had not noticed that was under the DD heading.

So I have just taxed another car with a debit card this time one payment no DD.

can't help but notice that the last two posters managed to tax their cars without any bosom-interaction at all.

I didn't even know this was possible

I had noticed that people had dragged down my very serious thread about car tax down to a base level, now which post office should I use!
