Solent Shiters 2015!

Likewise good to meet a few people - once I had plucked up courage to say 'hi'.  I think if I'd asked the Mk1 Escort owners if they were Autoshite, I might not have made it home. Here's a picture of the Autoshite Rover jump starting a modern BMW.  The Rover has some credentials for Autoshite as apparently didn't cost much and comes from a brand that doesn't exist but I suspect that that aside it is a perfectly decent car masquerading as Autoshite.  Hope that's spelt correctly.

I really liked this.  It is obvious that a Maestro is an Autoshite car, but I've driven many miles in these and remember well that they handled well and were really not bad cars at all.  This one looked very clean too, far too clean to be a real shite car at all.

This Morris Minor was just a really nice car.  Very clean and tidy but not such a minter that you couldn't use it - hope that comment doesn't cause offence.

This Mazda does have some Autoshite points.  Firstly, its an import so has been rejected by an entire country because they don't want it.  Second, the paint is dull though I am sure it would buff up to look fantastic.  But with a turbo and intercooler conversion again it probably goes well.

Which leaves mine.  Non matching wheel trim, almost 200K miles, very rusty arches (and a big hole underneath), very dirty interior - the list goes on.  I've plans to fix it mind, and have done the brakes, the HGF, the front shocks and various bits and pieces.  Funny it doesn't look that bad in the picture!  I missed the Nissan Almera which actually looked very smart and the East European car I didn't recognise which might well be the Autoshite car of the day (spares for that at Europarts?  I don't think so).

Lastly the view.  Fantastic view over Portsmouth.  Worth the cold.  Yeah right.

Nice to meet everyone and put faces to names/handles as appropriate - well done to everyone who braved the hurricane on top of the hill!

Would be good to organise (i use this term loosely) another meet up there in the summer - as said above, it was bloody freezing there this afternoon. Next time we need to bring some AS flyers as there were several people we saw who were prime shiteists, they just didn't know it yet. Giffer in a matte red civic, I'm talking to you.

Still, it didn't rain!

Bugger! That was still there when I drove past at about 4:50 pm! Glad to see it went well.

Yes, up for a later event I will be able to make...

This was GOOD, and in case anyone was in any doubt, BLOODY COLD.  If I had to choose my Shite of the Day, it would be between the Maestro and Yugo.  They're both sound choices for the sporting executive who's going up in the world, but I'm going to vote Austin 'cos beige>all other colours.

Must of stayed on for the after dark activities

It was good to meet everyone and to peruse some truly dreadful cars.... you know who you are... highlights for me were the mazda with the made in a shed style turbo installation and the miserable sana. I think thats the first time i have left a car meet feeling good about my car :P

Looking forward to another one when its not -10 and blowing a hoolie....

Well, it was until this morning, the salt spray on the motorways is a killer! I shall have to give it a jolly good clean tomorrow.

Nice meeting a few more people! Inconsistant got some photos of the BL paradise we visited in Southampton where I purchased a Maestro door and some small missing bits of trim, so hopefully he'll post those in due course.

Right, when shall we* meet up again? I want to meet everyone now!

No, it wasn't me dogging in a Minor at that late hour!   I was home getting outside of a roast at 4.30pm (no euphemism intended.....)

Last part of the day for me.  I parked the shite Astra outside my wife's shop, and when it was time to leave, someone in a 14 plate something or other reversed into it quite hard.

The bumpers are unpainted plastic and have had a hard time, and weren't marked.  Had it been any of my other cars, that would have been an issue for one reason or another.

A lot to be said for such a heap to drive around in.

MY DAY OUT AT THE SEASIDE

Yes, a grand day out. Met Angrydicky near the motorway and we agreed that the presence of a random Carlton 2200i GL was a good omen for the day. Papped!

The Beigestro wasn't the oldest car on the M25 by a long shot. We both failed to identify this beauty.

Got to the chap's place to collect AD's 'strodoor, and it was awesome. A rusting MG Maestro on wrong wheels:

Bonus MG Montego under tarp with traffic cone tits:

An early red Metro:

And our favourite, a MiniMetro 1.3S, apparently registered on launch day. Wrong wheels, right interior:

We then got shown into his lockup, which was rammed with BL spares. And under those spares were an MG Maestro turbo, an late MG Metro, an '84 Mini mayfair and an Rover Metro gti. Dream line up, we were two very happy Richards, and we weren't even at Solentshite yet.

When MOAR FACE is available I will make an appearance.

Y U NO HAVE MOAR FACE?

Via the wrong layby due to my navigation skillz, we made it to the burger layby.

It was really quite windy. I'm a bit surprised that no one has mentioned it so far.

Anyway, burgers as big as your face on the right, autoshite shiver and grin on the left:

AND THAT WAS MY DAY OUT.

Thanks to Angrydicky for the lift. Nice to met you all, looking forward to the next one.

IT WAS WINDY.

In case I have not said it before, I'm pissed that I missed this.

Would we use the same venue* again?

Posted

Looked a good day, apart from the cold and wind.

Unfortunately I couldn't make it due to other (boring, non car related) reasons.

However, I will try to make the next one. Hopefully at a warmer more road salt free time of year! April/May time? Or maybe summer?

Posted

May could end up clashing with Shitefest (the Autoshite Nationals?) and May is MEGA BIZZY for me. Shall we say April?

Posted

April sounds fine with me. Just need a date and venue now! Then decide which shitter to take!

How is the idea of meeting at Lee-On-Solent's pay and display sounding? We'd have to all pay about 60p, but we'd have enough to get some chips (The Bluebird cafe does GR9 chips) before moving on elsewhere.

Posted

Pay and display?   That's not another dogging reference is it?  I shall be careful how I get to Gosport in future...

Posted

Hayling Island has a few pretty big car parks on the front and lots to do... although last time i went there it was shut....

Posted

It was; on the way back down the steep hill I didn't have to use the brakes because of the wind. It's just as well as I don't think they would've stopped me.

Ah ha the mad cyclist... reminded me of the motorbike rider from the cannonball :)
