 its done 68000 mls

been lands end ---> john o groats on a charity thing with previous owners kids cos "its quite good on fuel"

and it cost me £100 about 4 years ago

I'd go with this. It probably started out on a rental fleet.

Years ago when I worked for Thrifty all our Renaults came from CAT UK in Southampton and were registered there. I'd guess Portsmouth and Southampton used the same area codes at the time?

i would  think the mileage is too low for rental fleet taht and all the options

i wondered if it was managers wifes car or something like that- especially with a DW friendly reg

Could have been registered to Renault Portsmouth then the London dealer had a buyer for one in that colour/spec so took it off their hands. Ex-demo could be another option?

Lovely car, mediterranean blue FTW !

They're massively under-rated, though not as much as early Meganes (which share most of their structure and running gear with the 19).

Father_HH-R had one of these, I hated it when he bought it but soon grew to like it. Mega comfy seats. Absolutely bog spec RL with a mega shit Philips head unit that only picked up Classic FM and played tapes through one speaker. He had it for years and aside from a flat battery after sitting for a fortnight, nothing went wrong(!)

I loved how the interior was pure mk1 19 and very 1980s looking with an out of place up to date steering wheel.

My Dad had a Renner 19 from about 2 or 3 years old and that too had been registered down south I think (TR).  Not sure where he bought it but it would have been north of Birmingham certainly.  Possibly Stafford or maybe even Leeds.  Did they import them via Soton docks?  I reckon Renault might have been pre-registering a lot of stuff at the time.

If I remember correctly, LHD facelift 19s got a facelift dashboard.

My grandfather bought a Renault 19 1.9 diesel "Bergerac" to replace his 309, it was a great thing - comfy, frugal, reliable, very basic.

Reg was flattered by your nice comments and decided to share more...

okay so some things are not strictly factory but they are renner items- steering wheel seems to be fitted to eleventy twelve different models & gear knob is migraine/clio

A lot of Renaults are still registered in that area, every other post-2001 example seems to wear a HK, HN or HV plate - all of them Portsmouth.

I always figured pre-reg to make sales targets, they can't need that many press cars.

When I used to watch traffic cops every un insured shit bag seemed to be stopped by police driving a renault 19.

Virtually all Renaults rental stuff - and there was a Lot of it back then - was registered through Southampton which explains the numbers. Might still be, dunno.

The lhd stuff did get the very nice face lifted dash, shame we never did.

That looks ace though. I've never had a 19 but it's on my list, one day I will!

Filth! I love phase two '90s PSA stuff.

Ahem. Not PSA :-)

You could make the dash RHD by getting a French one, slicing it up on a bacon slicer, and then glueing the slices back together in reverse order.
