Also it looks as though the Cheryl Crow CD was fitted by him.

I wouldn't know, as I only had a lowly TD LX.

Is there any truth to the Internet Fact that the last of the run of escorts were built by Jaguar trainees, and so were QC'ed properly and therefore built really well?

as a proud owner of an untaxed* Escort of which speak, I can confirm that the build quality is all you would expect of the era.

I had a Gti mk6 once, cracking car, but very Ford of that era in that it did nothing badly, but also nothing particularly well either, I think I covered about 36k in that one too.

I still have a Remus backbox cluttering my garage if you want it?

Great stuff! This calls for a shite TV advert from the 1990s

I really like these late Escorts in Finesse spec, just don't like the alloys, the multispoke ones fitted to S reg Finesse or the other different multispoke ones you could choose over the 3 spoke triangle ones when buying the car new were much nicer.

Confusing array of special edition models on the mk6 'Scort though, in 2000 before buying an R reg mk3 Astra, my old man almost bought a '98 S 1.6 'Osprey'.

Check the bottom arms - bushes go soft/not there

"The way I figure it, if you're gonna build a time machine into a car, why not do it with some style?"

Wise words and one of my favourite adverts - or was that the caveman one?

You too can turn that worthless old mk1 into a specced up mk6!

ha ha remember that ad that mk1 is now probably worth more than the mk6 when it was new lol

remember my dad having a mk6 encore estate diesel as basic as could be I remember all the locks inc ignition wearing so they wouldn't work and from what ive heard a common fault on them is the headlight stalk wears and works when it feels like it

seeing them adverts makes me think the should be another thread along the lines of youtube thread but all shite adverts but unfortunately im a bit pc thicko and don't know how to put them on

I've lived with it for a fortnight now. It's ok, actually, though I am a little sick of Sheryl Crow.

Stuff not right list:-

Lower wishbones (see pic above). This manifests itself by the car pulling left then right under acceleration/gear changing.

pass side wiper works when it suits it. Must be the mechanism for it to be intermitent.

the radio is awful, even with added Sheryl. Might look to replace or fit an aftermarket.

some deep rust under the boot carpet but easily fixed

and some deeper sidewalled tyres would be nice, to fill up the arches

Had a couple of these, these late ones are not really all that shit. Unexciting but competent transport. At 300 quid with ten months ticket you cant go wrong.

How did Henry resist the obvious temptation of using that as an advertising strapline?  Forever a mystery...  ;)

I haven't given it a blast yet to check but I'm hugely confident. Took about an hour a side with some creative swearing which amused my neighbours.

Ownership of the 'Scort is best described as "average" but in the words of Sheryl Crow, everyday is a winding road

Fatha_Outlaw had an Finesse Estate in pepper red.

As everyone has already said, it was "OK". Nothing spectacular, but pretty much unbreakable, used as a builder's van on many occasions. S130TAH. Replaced by a 2.0 Focus Estate, then sold thru the local rag. Believed lost in the (s)crappage scandal.

For £300 WOULD.
