untill flogged the fiesta to billy with hg trouble i was gladly chucking water at it no bother - even going bristol from manc and further afield with no trouble

only cos didnt want it stranding mammy did we flog it

(and its still going)

20 litres in the boot and wait till (if) it blows up

100 quid between a new snotter and frag = awful lot of water...........

The Felicia has used water ever since we got it 4 years ago, and its passed 2 MOT's without needing anything doing to it in those 4 years. Blimey I used to drive a coach that needed a good gallon of water daily. And what are the odds that another car would be any better, especially at under £400 eh? It could be ten times worse

Posted

Sometimes a car will lose water when the system gets pressurised but is ok otherwise. If you take the header tank cap off it won't have pressure so perhaps won't leak.

This means the water will boil at 100C instead of 110C but it might help to run it around for a bit while you look for the fault.

Good luck with whatever you choose to do, shout if you need some help

While my old 45 was loosing water (corroded pipe) I had to drive it 200+ miles back from Warrington. I had to pull over every few miles to top it up, and the car was fine. So just keep topping up the water until you have the cash to get it fixed?

It only got bridged because by the time I was bored of it, nobody wanted it and the alloys were worth more than the actual car, so off it fucked.

Some you win, some you lose. With this one, I lost. Not for the first time, probably not the last.

I work long hours overnight, so resting during the day. I bought this deaf and blind, I had to rely on the honesty of the seller.

I didn't have the luxury of travelling from Essex to Ramsgate just to view. I knew the mot was running out, which was fine with me, as the seller told me a list of new parts he'd fitted. From what I've seen, he was telling the truth about that. It's had all new brakes etc etc.

Just want it gone really, one way or another.

No more trolls please.

Fair enough but chuck a garage bloke a tenner to do a sniff test to rule out HGF. I really do think it is something minor like a hose, clip or even the rad cap. Plus if you get it sniff tested then it might encourage more buying vibes from on here. Has to be worth a tenner/drink or so. Seriously.

I don't think there's any trolling intended.  But there is a huge amount of experience in running old cars on zero budget.

A bit like if you asked on Pistonheads about what's the best lease plan for a new Audi Tdi Sportline, on here there'll be someone who has experienced what automotive crap you're in now and can tell you what's good or not to do next.

Have you found out what it's really worth as scrap?

Putting on my deerstalker hat and reaching for my pipe and magnifying glass, I'm picking up a vibe like "I'm just fed up with it and want it gone".  I think most of us have been there and fair enough if you want to do it that way.  But it's often not the cheapest option.

With the engines location on these the cooling system route is more tortuous than the norm and if the car is running well I'd very much doubt it's the headgasket at fault and more likely a very minor leak from one of the cooling pipes or indeed a severe air lock. These previa petrols still have a following and you'd still get better money selling it with issue rather than sending it over the bridge.

I'm gonna sympathise with TS here, sometimes you need to just reserve the right to say 'oh f**k it' and ring the metal yard.

The seller has clearly misrepresented the car so consequently you are entitled to rescind the contract and get your money back. The issue of using oil and water is a material term that goes to the heart of the deal. Demand your money back on pain of court proceedings otherwise.

Oh yeah. That'll work. "I bought a cheap car and it wasn't perfect. Can I have my money back?" To be fair to TS, he knows that's not an option anymore than asking Mystic Meg to fix it.

Not 'Can I have my money back' but 'I demand the return of my money at once on pain of court proceedings'

Inevitable response: Yes of course sir, here's your money back right now being hand-delivered by Ashley Cole.

It doesn't have to be perfect but it has to be as described. Sometimes the threat of proceediñgs can bring the result you want but I am perfectly aware also that it may not!

If the OP is determined to bridge it, my advice (along with most others) will be ignored but that is his choice.

Depending on who he asks for advice will determine the advice he gets!

If its had a decent wedge of new parts fitted recently maybe it's worth chucking it in for an MOT, you could be pleasantly surprised by the result, could be that £150 to get past an MOT could give you more time to find a better car and might get you a wee profit.

Chucking it on eBay with a fail sheet might even net you more t.han bridge money, you don't know till you get it checked.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Four pages ago TS asked if anyone had an auto estate for sale!

I did!! I've got a couple of Volvo's in the pipeline.

Anything cheap on here for sale?

well  not bonding with it, n the decision is made; its made... in the meantime you could top it up with some coolant/water n get in n out to work in it; Ive bought cheap throwaway cars over the years, n had the same reaction after the 'honeymoon period' - bought a Suzuki swift 1300 off a workmate once - he was due to  start a driving ban the following week n I was just  2 days off my own driving ban n 'back on the road' when I bought it for €400 - Id bought it 'in the dark' - literally; as we both worked night shift - shifty fecker had welded the bonnet shut at the back edge, no warning light bulbs on the cluster (hed taken them all out) n none of the door locks worked... he had a right laugh at me at work...  I flogged it mercilessly for the first 2 weeks in n out to work as id insured it n it had test on it... he ended up having to get a lift in to work off me (he lived 'on my way/route to work) n with the few quid he threw me occasionally for juice I got a bonnet hinge door locks, replaced the dash bulbs eventually but none 'lit up' madly for any reason; had 6 months outta the car, n drove it all round the country, often on 140 mile stints 'up north' without issue...later sold it on for a profit after bodging up the exhaust to a Kiwi girl... the dark clouds cleared n the sun shone again...

...often if you show them no love at all n use them without any 'respect given' while taking precautions (like a new girlfriend your not too sure bout/will last the distance) - they'll surprise you...

I should be getting a couple of replies from the sellers of the auto estates tomorrow that I've enquired about.

If they fall through, my arm may be up my back to do something with this ******* thing.

Seems a right shame, flushing a Privia without spending an hour or so on some simple diagnostics. Could be a leak in the heater core too...anyone fancy a pressure/leakdown test? Cooling system troubles can often look worse than they are.

I would, but it's so far away.

Or, GLWTS innit.

Not if two receipts were made up and signed stating 'sold as seen'.

You may be pleasantly* surprised*. GLWTS.

Hope so, and thanks.

The bus was saved at the very last moment.

A lad came round from Wembley tonight and drove it away.

A big bonus is he works for Euro Carparts  :-D

I'm pretty sure I have, but more of that on Sunday.

Sold the Previa through Gumtree too, hassle free.

Oh gawd. A friend has probably asked him to find him a Ford Fiesta.

He loves them. He used to have the diesel version, but that cracked its head.

I can't wait for him to order a head gasket and water pump for it, he'll come out of the warehouse with a fuel pump for a 1972 SAAB and a make-your-own-inlet manifold set for a Perkins Prima comprising of some brown paper and sellotape.
