Thought/suggetions, Shitefest 2015 or AS roadtrip

If Le Mans is a bit fancy, the 24hr 2CV Race is on August 22-23 at Anglesey Circuit. (provisional date). Last year, it was also the 2CVGB National, but I think it's just going to be a 2CV race with a few extra cars floating around next time. A good laugh, very open pits and the odd spectacle of 2CVs and Minis doing battle on one of the most beautifully located tracks ever. I think they're planning track day sessions when the race isn't on too...

I do quite fancy a Shite tour on the other hand - we don't have to cross the sea to do it. Plenty to see in the UK! A tour of shitty little car museums perhaps?

A much better idea I have always meant to go to the 24hr 2cv race. I seem to remember it used to be Snetterton but might be wrong.

I have just booked my Le Mans trip but won't be taking any shite unfortunately as the Rolls doesn't have a tow bar and we are taking a caravan. I think your pricing is a bit out mind the general admission tickets are 75 euro discounted for ACO members at 55. Beausejour isn't a very good site and rolling up Friday morning it will be almost full and a mile walk just to get to the track. The tickets went on sale last week and all the good sites sold out straight away most go to the ticket agents that stick a massive mark up on it. It is still worth it but not really an autoshite trip due to the costs we worked out it is going to be nearly grand for 3 of us to go for the week.

Thanks for the pointers:

We can go a day earlier and get better spot on the site, I've stayed at Beausejour for the Lemans Classic and it was far nicer than the other sites if an extra 10 mins walk to the main entrance. All other circuit sites are gone.

Well spotted on the ticket cost, I saw the headline rate which is not the proper weekend ticket, so an extra E10 per person to get in as you only need one member to buy all the tickets.

Yeah, it was at Snetterton, but it's not much fun over there so it's in Wales now. There is camping on the circuit and, surprisingly, some of it is in a dip so the noise of the racers isn't too loud. Is strictly no dogs though - for obvious reasons.

How about shite drag racing? All turn up at a RWYB event and throw our shite down the quarter mile?

To be honest, this is boring. At least, it was when me and my 2CVing chums went. Mind you, the headwind didn't help. Corners are more fun!

fair point, I've never actually tried it in a slow car

edit, that came out wrong. I meant to say, I have only ever raced against others in cars as powerful as mine and when I stood a chance of beating them.

no offence intended DW!

No offence taken! Me and my 2CV mate managed one of the closest races of the day, but going up against an Audi S3 felt like an utter waste of time. It was going twice as fast as I was by the quarter mile...

There's a meadow behind my house, which could probably be camped on for beer tokens. Hell, if I can bung Mrs_Duke off to her sister's for the weekend you can have free run of the house as well. Did I mention that I'm about 10 mins drive from Trac Mon?

I know folk in the east won't like Wales again, but a year is a long time. No reason why there can't be more than one meet.

Scotland, as always, watches with interest... tbh I don't know why I keep replying as wherever it is I suspect a Volvo can occur.

You can't drive to Scotshire with an Ovlov.

You'd walk home with wads of jingeliding in your pockets.

Longleat?

Cabrios only.

Need Shitenorth and a Shitesouth. Ideally located in a windswept car park on motorway sevices with Happy Eater/Little Chef.

I like the idea of the 2CV24HRS. Sounds like a proper shite weekender.

I went for the qualifying earlier this year (couldn't stay the whole weekend), and it was a great atmosphere. Not sure how different it will be without the 2CV National being there, but I'm sure with sufficient like-minded AS members, it will be good fun. But waiting until August :-(

I do hope to go to Le Mans at some time, but next year would be difficult as I'm planning another French road trip around the same sort of time. Unless I could combine the two...?

Why can't shitefest and an exclusive tracking day be combined?

I don't think there's any reason why not, feel free to organise it ;)

Have we had any updates on a 2015 gathering? I'm trying to see if a venue can be done up here but it's not looking terribly likely at the minute.

All venues within 10mins of trigs hoose are booked:)

I think Ian should hold it again in Wales, I think that was one of my highlights of the year last year and i fancy hooning the little Starlet around the Wales valleys.

I could be persuaded to do it again, but have serious concerns about being able to book such amazing weather again two years on the trot. I'm sure the Internal Fire museum would welcome us back again too. Quirky. They've just got a Wankel-powered drone in as a static display.

I'd do Wales again no bother DW, we could hold a mass 2CV rebuild weekend like they do at these Classic Car shows, except with more hooning, scones, quizzes, swearing and fire.
